LOGINMireya's POV
The beating of my heart turned erratic. I can feel cold sweat coming out of my palm. "I…I got lost," I reasoned out and faked a laugh. “I thought the Grand Council Hall was this way," His brows furrowed as he stared. Fear traveled to my chest but I still forced a smile, standing firmly with my excuse. He glanced over my shoulder before bringing his gaze back to me. “Let’s go. The ceremony will start in a few minutes,” I nodded and quietly followed him but I couldn’t help but look back at the iron door. I need to know why he was calling my name. Is he asking for my help to escape? Does he need to tell me something? Or maybe he has a plan on how to stop this marking ceremony? “Mireya,” Caius called, while we stood in front of the huge wooden door that led to the Grand Council Hall. I looked at him, even though I already knew what he would say. You will never be my true Luna. Keep in mind that you are nothing but a replacement. “You will never be my true Luna. Keep in mind that you are nothing but a replacement,” I bit the insides of my cheeks to hold back my laughter. I never thought I would still remember those cruel words. “What?!” he asked, irritation laced in his tone. I cleared my throat and shook my head. “I just remembered something funny,” His brows furrowed again and if I had a sewing kit with me I would have stitched them together, they are always almost touching anyway. When the huge wooden door was pulled open, Caius offered his arm and I forced myself to take it. I have no plan. Everything was moving too fast. All I know is, I want to alter my tragic fate but I don’t even know where I should start. If I refused to be the substitute Luna then two possible outcomes await. It’s either I will be beheaded in front of the Royal Council or Alpha Edward will throw me out of the pack and I will end up living as a rogue. We walked down the aisle and stood at the altar beneath King Victor’s throne. An Elder stood in front, his palm raised as though he were offering a solemn prayer over us. I watched him intently. My memory was vague but I remember that after his solemn prayer, he would permit Caius to mark me. His forehead creased. His hand started trembling. Did he act like this before? When his eyes snapped open, they went straight to me, sending a chill down my spine. “You are marked,” The crowd behind us gasps. The hall was filled with their murmurs. “She had been marked?” “She wasn't pure?” “How can they offer a woman who had been claimed?” Marked? What does he mean? I haven’t met my mate. I haven’t been claimed by anyone…but a face crossed my mind. Azrael. He buried his pang on my neck and took me back to this moment. Did he mark me? Did he claim me as his without my knowing? I thought he only did that to perform his sorcery? “Who marked you, Mireya?” Caius grabbed my arm and forced me to face him. “Who fucking claimed you?!” His claws started to pierce my skin. Just when I was about to speak a familiar loud and commanding footsteps filled my ear. His scent infiltrated my nose and I could feel my insides turning into chaos. I turned my head towards the door and there I saw the man I had made a deal with. Royal guards pointed their swords in his direction but he wasn’t fazed. He was looking straight into my eyes, flashing a mischievous smile. Now that he was standing in a well-lit room I clearly saw what he looks like. He was wearing ragged clothing made of patchwork cloth. His jaw was rough with stubble and his eyes which looked like molten gold seemed to command power without even trying. “A-Azrael,” King Victor’s trembling voice broke the silence. For the first time, the composed King seems to have lost his control. Azrael gaze who was glued to me shifted to the King whom he claimed to be as his father. “You recognized me…” he thrilled and smiled. “Father,” The crowd gasps again but this time it is louder. “Father?” “King Victor has another son?” The Royal Council was in complete chaos, throwing questions that only King Victor and Azrael can answer. A part of me thought Azrael was lying. I doubted his words but seeing King Victor’s reaction tells one thing—Azrael is telling the truth. As if there were no blade at his throat, Azrael strode confidently across the aisle and came straight to me. “What do you think you’re doing?!” Caius hissed at him, while gripping my arm firmly. Azrael didn’t respond but in a swift movement, he grabbed Caius' throat. “Azrael!” My eyes widened when I saw blood cascading down Caius’ throat. “You’re hurting my woman, Caius,” he coldly spoke. The Royal Guards surrounded Azrael, their swords pointed at him but Azrael’s world seemed to narrow on Caius and he couldn’t see anything else. “Y-You a-asshole,” Caius struggled. His face turned pale and I felt his hold on me loosen until I was finally freed. As if that was Azrael's cue, he mercilessly threw Caius on the floor. Looking at Caius gasp for air and hold his neck just to suppress the blood made my chest clench. “Don’t tell me you feel sorry for that asshole,” Azrael whispered. I glared at him. He was being reckless. The two of us might be beheaded because of what he did. “They will kill us!” I gritted out. “Do you think they will let us live after what you did?! You fucking marked me and now you hurt Caius?! You weren’t thinking—“ He reached for my arm that was marked with Caius’ claws, his hold was gentle, like he was afraid to hurt me. Then he looked into my eyes. “You won’t die. I won’t let you die. Not on my watch, Mireya,”Mireya’s POV My gaze bounces between Alpha Dante’s wolf whose slowly walking towards Azrael and towards Azrael who was about to flick his finger. Before Azrael could use his black magic, I run towards him and grabbed his hand. I know I was frail and weak but I placed myself in front and faced Alpha Dante. He stopped from walking. His blazing red eyes pierced through me. “Move,” Azrael whispered but I ignored him. Instead, I held his wrist tightly to stop him from exposing that he was a son of a priestess. This asshole doesn’t think about the consequences of his actions. I must stop him before he could even expose he was practicing black magic. Completely aware that I am no match to Alpha Dante, I slowly kneel on the ground. I heard some gasps from the crowd. Some of them murmured but I ignored them and focused all my attention on Alpha Dante. His head tilted as he stared at me but his gaze was still piercing. “Spare our reckless behavior, Alpha Dante. We were foolish to int
Mireya’s POVDays had passed but what happened at the Royal Banquet was still the talk of the town. Thankfully those who live outside the palace weren’t aware that I was the woman Alpha Caius had knelt on. “You grew quite famous. I wonder what they’ll do if I told them that the woman they are gossiping about was you—“ I glared at Azrael. “Do that and I will tell the king that you practiced black magic,” Instead of being threatened, Azrael just flashed an annoying smile. “And the whole world will know you’re reborn,” I curled my palm and exhaled sharply. This man won’t really let himself lose in an argument. If I threatened him he would threaten me back. I hope he can use those skills of his in gaining an ally. “Just shut up and focus on our plan, Azrael,” I don’t want to be around him so I walked faster. I was even half-running but Azrael effortlessly caught up. He was walking calmly, his hands inside his pocket while I was sweating just to get away from him. I rolled
Mireya’s POV “Caius!” King Victor’s voice roared. I remain frozen in place, staring at Caius who was kneeling in front of me. Is this a dream? I have never once pictured Caius’ kneeling and begging in front of me. It was far from impossible but it’s happening now. “What is wrong with Alpha Caius?” “Why is he kneeling in front of that woman?” “Guards!” King Victor shouted again. Two Royal Guards went to Caius. They tried to hold him but Caius gave them one glare and they immediately took a step back. “Caius what is wrong with you?” Blaire tried to hold him too, only to be pushed away. How did he remember? Why is he aware of the tragic fate I was desperate to alter? Just when I was about to seek an answer from Azrael, Caius grabbed my hand and looked at me pleadingly. Gone was the furious alpha who was shooting daggers at anyone who tried to touch him. “Mireya please,” No. I shouldn’t be swayed. I begged him too but he just left our child and me like we meant no
Mireya’s POV I don’t care anymore. I don’t care about the plans that were forming inside my head. I don’t care about the death that awaits if I end Blaire and Caius right at this very aisle. I don’t care about the torture that I will receive. I don’t care about the probability if I’ll succeed on killing them or not. All I know is I want to end them, right at this very moment. “What is she doing?” “Is she out of her mind?” I can hear their murmurs. I can feel their curious gazes directed upon me but all I care about is inching the distance between the devils I wanted to end. Five more steps and I can grab their necks. Blaire and Caius looked at me filled with confusion. One more step. Just when I was about to grab Blaire and Caius’ necks, Azrael’s voice enveloped my ear. “Bow down,” My whole body froze. I can feel my neck slowly bending until I see the aisle I am walking on. I am bowing to the demons I wanted to kill. “Don’t be stupid, Mireya,” I felt m
Mireya’s POV I can feel cold sweat coming out of my palm. I should pull myself together. I have faced the Royal Council countless times before. This shouldn’t be new to me but I can’t help but feel nervous. “Fake it till you make it, Mireya,” I whispered to myself. “Fake it till you make it,” “Are you nervous?” My head snapped at Azrael. He was flashing a smug smile as if none of this bothered him at all. I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat and shook my head. “No,” I confidently responded. “Why would I be nervous? I faced the Royal Council countless times before. Gatherings aren’t new to me,” His gaze lingered. I saw how his lips stretched as his smile widened. What now? He thinks I’m lying? Well, I am but he wouldn’t know it. My brows furrowed when Azrael offered his arm. I stared at it completely clueless about what he wanted. “Take my arm,” he said. “I know you’re nervous Mireya. You don’t have to pretend in front of me,” When I didn’t move, he
Mireya’s POV“This is itchy, Mireya,” I watched as Azrael scratched his nape and his arm as he wore the royal robe made by Cecilla, the well-known dressmaker in town. We don’t have enough time so I just made Azrael wear the most decent royal robe that suits him. “Do I really have to wear this?” I rolled my eyes at him. “Why? Do you want to show up at the Royal Banquet wearing rags?” He let out a soft chuckle. He started walking toward me, the cloak he was wearing danced with the wind making him look…majestic. He really has royal blood. Maybe he's right, he doesn’t need royal clothing to prove that he is King Victor’s son but he still needs to make himself presentable if he really wants to be a threat to Caius. I cleared my throat and looked at him like I wasn’t swayed. “If you want to gain respect then you have to present yourself as a dignified man. That’s one thing you should remember if you’re serious about our plan,” “And you?” he asked. “A dignified man like me s
