LOGINMIireya's POV
He was foolish. He was reckless...but why do I feel safe now that he is around? "What are you doing?! Kill him!" Caius shouted, holding his bleeding neck. My hold on Azrael's hand tightened. We will die! They won't spare us. I just got reborn. Don't tell me I wouldn't even last a day and I will meet death again? "Are you scared?" Azrael asked, a smile formed on his lips. I glared at him. How can I not be scared when we are surrounded by sharp swords? One wrong step and one of those swords will pierce our necks. "They will kill us. What do you want me to feel?" I whispered through gritted teeth. “What are you doing?! Kill him!” Caius’ shouted again but the Royal Guards didn’t move. Their eyes were directed to King Victor, waiting for an order. When he ascended from his throne the hall fell into deafening silence. Everyone bowed their heads…even me, but Azrael was different. He held his head high not intimidated by the King’s presence. I tugged the hem of his ragged shirt urging him to bow down but he didn’t budge. He looked straight at the King. “Put away your swords,” King Victor commanded. “He almost killed me, Father!” Caius protested but King Victor didn’t even glance at him. My heart was beating fast not for myself but for Azrael who seems to be oblivious to the crime he committed. He hurt the future Alpha King in front of everyone. He was committing treason. He might be King Victor’s son but what if he didn’t acknowledge him? What if he denied him? What will happen to him? What will happen to us? “They should be punished with death, King Victor,” My eyes widened. My head snapped at Elder Marcellus, the King’s advisor and the head of the Royal Council. He has always been like this, quiet but cruel whenever he speaks. He was the man I always avoided crossing paths with when I was Caius’s Luna. “That woman,” he said, looking at me. “She tried to deceive us by offering herself after being claimed. And that man,” he turned his head to Azrael. “He harmed Alpha Caius, the next Alpha King, and even claimed himself as your son—“ “He is my son,” King Victor cut him off. The crowd gasps. Caius’ looked at his father in disbelief while I stood in the middle, absorbing all the information. “S-Son?” Caius stood up, his steps were unstable but he managed to get close and stood in front of Azrael. “This asshole is your son?” Azrael slapped Caius’s finger that was pointed at his face and turned to King Victor. He raised his eyebrows anticipating more words. King Victor cleared his throat and faced the Royal Guards. “Bring them to the dungeon. Make sure they can’t escape,” The Royal Guards finally moved and went to us. One of the Royal Guards was about to grab my hand but Azrael pulled me close to him. “You don’t have to drag us out. We can walk,” he said, and pulled me out of the Hall. Royal Guards were surrounding us but Azrael walked like he owned the hall. When we reached the narrow and dark dungeon I felt my chest tighten. It feels like I was pulled back to my darkest nightmare—lying on that cold floor while blood cascaded down my legs. “Mireya,” My head snapped at Azrael. My eyes burn from unshed tears. My chest clenched from suppressed anger. “What’s your plan?” He stared at me, wearing a smirk that was starting to piss me off. “What plan?” he innocently asked. “I am just going with the flow, Mireya,” “You told me we would burn them to the ground,” He pouted his lips and glanced at the single torch hanging on the corner. “Yeah, we can do that. Do you want to do that now?” I didn’t respond. He started walking towards the torch. I watched him, confused. “What are you doing?” He looked at me innocently. “We will burn them to the ground just like what you wanted,” Don’t kill him, Mireya. Don’t kill him. I keep on reminding myself over and over again. I shouldn’t kill this asshole. He was the reason I was reborn. I somehow owe my life to him. “You have no plan of avenging your mother?” Before he could answer my question, the creaking sound of the metal door stole our attention. Commanding and heavy footsteps enveloped the silent dungeon. Before he could even emerge from the darkness I already recognized it was King Victor. “How did you end up in the dungeon?” he asked, looking at me straight in the eyes. I tried to be brave but his stare pierced through my soul. He was still the Alpha King. His domineering presence couldn’t be ignored. “I-I got lost. I end up in the d-dungeon, King V-Victor,” He didn’t speak. He was just looking at me as if he was weighing whether I was telling the truth or not. “Then Azrael marked you?” he asked after almost a minute of silence. I glanced at Azrael before nodding. “H-He did,” King Victor stepped forward. Azrael hid me behind him, earning a chuckle from his father. Azrael's wide frame completely shields me from King Victor. Even if I tiptoed, his wide back was still blocking my view. “What’s your plan now, Father? Will you kill me like what you did to my mother?” Silence wrapped us once again. Azrael may act playful but I knew he was planning something. He may not say it but the coldness of his tone was enough to reveal his wrath. “I won’t kill you and the she-wolf that you claimed,” King Victor responded. “I will give back your freedom, Azrael. You will live as my son but don’t be a threat to the crown. Don’t be a threat to Caius,”Mireya’s POV My gaze bounces between Alpha Dante’s wolf whose slowly walking towards Azrael and towards Azrael who was about to flick his finger. Before Azrael could use his black magic, I run towards him and grabbed his hand. I know I was frail and weak but I placed myself in front and faced Alpha Dante. He stopped from walking. His blazing red eyes pierced through me. “Move,” Azrael whispered but I ignored him. Instead, I held his wrist tightly to stop him from exposing that he was a son of a priestess. This asshole doesn’t think about the consequences of his actions. I must stop him before he could even expose he was practicing black magic. Completely aware that I am no match to Alpha Dante, I slowly kneel on the ground. I heard some gasps from the crowd. Some of them murmured but I ignored them and focused all my attention on Alpha Dante. His head tilted as he stared at me but his gaze was still piercing. “Spare our reckless behavior, Alpha Dante. We were foolish to int
Mireya’s POVDays had passed but what happened at the Royal Banquet was still the talk of the town. Thankfully those who live outside the palace weren’t aware that I was the woman Alpha Caius had knelt on. “You grew quite famous. I wonder what they’ll do if I told them that the woman they are gossiping about was you—“ I glared at Azrael. “Do that and I will tell the king that you practiced black magic,” Instead of being threatened, Azrael just flashed an annoying smile. “And the whole world will know you’re reborn,” I curled my palm and exhaled sharply. This man won’t really let himself lose in an argument. If I threatened him he would threaten me back. I hope he can use those skills of his in gaining an ally. “Just shut up and focus on our plan, Azrael,” I don’t want to be around him so I walked faster. I was even half-running but Azrael effortlessly caught up. He was walking calmly, his hands inside his pocket while I was sweating just to get away from him. I rolled
Mireya’s POV “Caius!” King Victor’s voice roared. I remain frozen in place, staring at Caius who was kneeling in front of me. Is this a dream? I have never once pictured Caius’ kneeling and begging in front of me. It was far from impossible but it’s happening now. “What is wrong with Alpha Caius?” “Why is he kneeling in front of that woman?” “Guards!” King Victor shouted again. Two Royal Guards went to Caius. They tried to hold him but Caius gave them one glare and they immediately took a step back. “Caius what is wrong with you?” Blaire tried to hold him too, only to be pushed away. How did he remember? Why is he aware of the tragic fate I was desperate to alter? Just when I was about to seek an answer from Azrael, Caius grabbed my hand and looked at me pleadingly. Gone was the furious alpha who was shooting daggers at anyone who tried to touch him. “Mireya please,” No. I shouldn’t be swayed. I begged him too but he just left our child and me like we meant no
Mireya’s POV I don’t care anymore. I don’t care about the plans that were forming inside my head. I don’t care about the death that awaits if I end Blaire and Caius right at this very aisle. I don’t care about the torture that I will receive. I don’t care about the probability if I’ll succeed on killing them or not. All I know is I want to end them, right at this very moment. “What is she doing?” “Is she out of her mind?” I can hear their murmurs. I can feel their curious gazes directed upon me but all I care about is inching the distance between the devils I wanted to end. Five more steps and I can grab their necks. Blaire and Caius looked at me filled with confusion. One more step. Just when I was about to grab Blaire and Caius’ necks, Azrael’s voice enveloped my ear. “Bow down,” My whole body froze. I can feel my neck slowly bending until I see the aisle I am walking on. I am bowing to the demons I wanted to kill. “Don’t be stupid, Mireya,” I felt m
Mireya’s POV I can feel cold sweat coming out of my palm. I should pull myself together. I have faced the Royal Council countless times before. This shouldn’t be new to me but I can’t help but feel nervous. “Fake it till you make it, Mireya,” I whispered to myself. “Fake it till you make it,” “Are you nervous?” My head snapped at Azrael. He was flashing a smug smile as if none of this bothered him at all. I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat and shook my head. “No,” I confidently responded. “Why would I be nervous? I faced the Royal Council countless times before. Gatherings aren’t new to me,” His gaze lingered. I saw how his lips stretched as his smile widened. What now? He thinks I’m lying? Well, I am but he wouldn’t know it. My brows furrowed when Azrael offered his arm. I stared at it completely clueless about what he wanted. “Take my arm,” he said. “I know you’re nervous Mireya. You don’t have to pretend in front of me,” When I didn’t move, he
Mireya’s POV“This is itchy, Mireya,” I watched as Azrael scratched his nape and his arm as he wore the royal robe made by Cecilla, the well-known dressmaker in town. We don’t have enough time so I just made Azrael wear the most decent royal robe that suits him. “Do I really have to wear this?” I rolled my eyes at him. “Why? Do you want to show up at the Royal Banquet wearing rags?” He let out a soft chuckle. He started walking toward me, the cloak he was wearing danced with the wind making him look…majestic. He really has royal blood. Maybe he's right, he doesn’t need royal clothing to prove that he is King Victor’s son but he still needs to make himself presentable if he really wants to be a threat to Caius. I cleared my throat and looked at him like I wasn’t swayed. “If you want to gain respect then you have to present yourself as a dignified man. That’s one thing you should remember if you’re serious about our plan,” “And you?” he asked. “A dignified man like me s
