Chapter 17: Drunken mistake.

“Hello?” I put the phone on speaker and placed it on the table.

“Kara? What happened to your phone all day?!”

“I–”

“It doesn't matter. Your mother collapsed, come home this instant. You hear me?”

“Hello to you too. Kara's not coming home. You can't order my wife around like that.” Pierce responded, removing the phone from the table.

“Young man, you came into my home and took one of my daughters–”

“You mean my wife right?”

“Serena was supposed to be your wife. Not Kara!”

“Really? I'm already married to Kara though. What difference does it really make? I mean, they're both your daughters.”

“You–”

“You'll do well to let my wife get the rest she deserves after what your family put her through today, don't you think?”

“Kara? Kara? Why is he the one talking on your behalf? Did you loose your tongue from taking the pill to prevent you from getting pregnant?”

“Dad. You knew?” My heart broke all over again.

Before my rebirth, the only wrong he was guilty of was turniya blind eye whenever I was treated harshly and treating Serena and I very differently.

“So what if I knew? Your mother was only trying to help. Don't hold it against her and come home. Stop this childish nonsense at once.”

“If a girl gets married, she stays with her husband. My case isn't going be any different.”

“Married? Who married you off? I'm still alive and I haven't given my blessings yet.”

“Your blessings hold no value in the face of the law. We're legally married.”

“What happened to you Kara? You weren't like this, what changed?”

“Goodnight Dad. My husband and I are about to get busy. As you know, it's not our first night together. No need to hold back or be shy.”

I ended the call and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

Pierce looked at me, intently.

“What are your plans? Where to do intend to start in getting your revenge?”

I glanced at him and pondered for a few minutes, hand on my chin. The image of me struggling for breath on the hospital bed flashed through my mind.

The call. Yes.

David had me listen to my grandfather speak before I died. He was earnestly begging for my forgiveness even though we only met twice throughout the course of my life.

Grandpa always refused to see me after the first two times he came visiting. He also believed fiercely in shamans and fortune tellers, at least that's what I gathered.

“I want to meet my grandfather.”

“Were you guys close?”

“Not in the slightest. I heard something sometime ago and I want to know something about it.

He's the only one who clarify. I'll go meet him in the nursing home tomorrow. I hope he agrees to see me.”

“I'll have Jason go with you.”

“No need. I can take care of myself.”

Back at home.

Serena paced up and down the living room.

Why did Pierce take Kara away? Are they really together? I hope the girl I paid to spread those fake news doesn't rat me out. I just wanted Pierce to see that he needs me. My family has strong backing.

She didn't hear her father, Sebastian come in.

“Serena. Serena.”

“Oh Dad. You're back. How's Mom?”

“What were you so lost thinking about?”

“I was worried about Mom.”

“The doctor said she'll be fine and just needs some rest. I spoke to your sister earlier and–”

“She's coming home right?” She cut him off rushing to grab his arm.

He shakes his head.

“She claims they're legally married and she won't be coming home.”

“Married how? She only spent one night with him. You'll never give them your blessings right?”

Sebastian was silent for a minute.

“I will. I mean, what's the difference really? Kara's still my daughter and we can find another worthy suitor for you.”

“Dad, Kara's adopted! I'm you're real daughter. You should be on my side. Not hers.”

“She was adopted into my family, that makes her my daughter. Serena, just try to think about what I said.”

“No Dad. You don't love me. No one's going to be good enough for me. Pierce was the best, most sought after bachelor. Only he was good enough.”

With that, she walked out of the house. Once outside, she called Aiden.

“Aiden.” She sobbed.

“What's wrong Serena?”

“ It's Kara, she's not coming home.”

“Coming home? Where'd she go?”

“Pierce came earlier and carried her out of the house. I'm feeling like a total wreck.”

“How did that happen? There's no way she moved on that fast. It's not even up to a week since we called off our engagement.”

“I don't care how you do it. Win her back. I need a drink.”

She ended the call and drove to a bar. Upon getting there, she ordered a bottle of whiskey and started chugging it down.

After a while, Aiden called.

“Where are you Serena, its a bit loud there”

“hey you. Pour me another drink now.”

“ Are you at a bar?”

“Hehe I went to drink. Just a little bit.”

“You sound drunk.Which bar is it? I'm coming right now.”

“I promise I'm not drunk. I had one, two three, four, five drinks.” She counted her fingers as she called out.

“Which bar is it Serena?”

“Which bar is it? I think it's eliteson something. I can't remember. I don't care. Byeeeee.”

She ended the call and continued drinking. Aiden got there soon enough.

“Serena, you're wasted. Let's go home.”

“Aiden. You're here. Let's have fun. Join me. It's been a really crappy day.”

“I can't handle liquor well Serena.”

“Aww. Just one drink. Pleaseeee?”

He took the cup in front of her and downed its contents at once.

“Done. Now let's get together home.”

“I'm not going home tonight.” She pouted.

“Let's do a couple's shot.” She excitedly giggles as she suggested.

She's been hostile towards him throughout the past few days. He obliged. He never could refuse Serena.

“Okay that's it. We're leaving now.”

He picked her belongings and helped her up. They hailed a cab to a hotel to pass the night since Serena didn't want to go home.

Aiden checked into a room and carefully placed Serena on the bed, covering her with the duvet and turned to leave.

She grabbed his hand and sat up

“Stay with me. I don't want to be alone.” She said clearly without a hint of drunkenness in her voice

"you can't drive home drunk anyways." then she leaned in and kissed him.

He returned the kiss, with more passion.

Knowing fully well this was most likely a drunken mistake and they'll probably regret it by morning but he couldn't care less about any of that.

He deepened the kiss and they both began making out aggressively.

Any complications, we'll blame it on the liquor. We're both drunk anyways.
