Chapter 3

Author: Peachy
The next afternoon, I went back to the sanctuary.

Lily was bandaging the paw of an injured wolf pup.

Her technique wasn’t as professional as mine, but it was gentle and meticulous.

“Lily.”

She looked up, a surprised smile gracing her lips when she saw me.

As always, she gently typed out her words on her phone.

[Elena! You’re back? My head is much better, thank you for your healing yesterday.]

“I wanted to buy you a coffee,” I said. “You look like you could use a break.”

She did look exhausted, with faint dark circles under her eyes.

[Okay, I guess there is something I’d like to talk about.]

The corner cafe was quiet. We found a small table in the back.

Lily quietly stirred her hot chocolate, seeming to hesitate over something.

“Is something on your mind?” I asked softly.

Lily looked up at me, her eyes shimmering with tears.

She took out her phone, her fingers trembling as she typed, and then pushed the screen toward me.

[There’s something I don’t know who to tell.] the screen read.

I nodded, encouraging her to continue.

New text appeared: [I’m pregnant.]

My heart skipped a beat, but I kept my expression calm. “Congratulations.”

She shook her head, typing again: [But the baby’s father… I think he’s pulling away. He hasn’t answered my calls in 24 hours.]

Tears started to roll down her cheeks.

“He used to reply to every single message. He’d bring me food, make sure I was safe. But since yesterday, it’s like he’s vanished.”

She wiped her tears and kept typing.

[Elena… do you think… he’s already married? Am I destroying someone’s family?]

A bone-deep chill washed over me as I read her words.

Not because she’d guessed the truth.

But because I knew, with sickening certainty, that with a personality as kind and naive as Lily’s, if I told her the truth, she would absolutely choose to disappear quietly with the child.

And a furious, unhinged Julian, having lost the love of his life, who would he blame?

The “culprit” who made him lose her—me.

And the tragedy of my first life would repeat itself. Only faster. And worse.

My people, my parents, would once again become sacrifices to his rage.

A vicious voice screamed in my soul.

Tell her. Let her run.

Let Julian lose his mind over her.

Let him burn.

But a smaller, trembling voice whispered, What about our people?

“I… need to use the restroom,” I said, practically fleeing from the table.

Staring at my pale face in the cold mirror, I dialed the encrypted number.

“Marcus, it’s me.”

“Elena?” The voice of Alpha Marcus of the Silver Moon Pack was steady. “Your people are here. They're safe. Deep in my territory, under my protection.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”

“But Elena, are you sure about this? Julian won’t let you go easily.”

“I don’t have a choice anymore.”

After hanging up, I sent a mind-link to my mother.

“Mom.”

“Elena, my dear.” My mother’s voice was warm and full of love. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. Did you all arrive safely?”

“Yes, Marcus’s people have been very kind. But Elena, are you truly set on rejecting the bond? It’s very dangerous.”

I closed my eyes, the images of my past life flashing behind them.

My parents imprisoned in a dungeon, my people slaughtered, and me, the final sacrifice.

“Mom,” I asked, my voice tight, “no matter what I do... will you stand with me?”

“Of course, my daughter.” My mother’s voice was filled with unconditional love. “Whatever you decide, we support you. You are always our pride, and all we want is for you to be free and happy.”

Tears blurred my vision.

“Thanks, Mom. I know what I have to do now.”

When I returned to my seat, Lily was staring at her phone screen, an unread message displayed.

She saw me and quickly put the phone away.

“Was that him?” I asked.

Lily nodded, a complicated mix of hope and fear on her face.

“He said he’s coming to see me tonight,” she typed. “But Elena, what should I do? If he really has a family, I can’t keep doing this.”

I looked into her innocent eyes, a storm of complex emotions rising within me.

She had no idea that the child she was carrying was the final straw that had utterly destroyed my previous life.

She had no idea that her kindness and purity were the cold-hearted Alpha’s only weakness.

And she had no idea that her very existence was my only chance at freedom.

“Lily,” I said, gently touching her hand, “no matter what happens, remember that you are innocent. You just loved someone. That’s not a crime.”

She nodded, her eyes shining with trust.

[Thank you, Elena. Talking to you makes me feel so much better.]

I stood up to leave. Just as I did, she called me back.

[Elena, can I ask you one more question?]

I turned to look at her.

She typed on her phone: [If the man you loved... already belonged to someone else... what would you do?]

Elena's POVTwelve hours later, we reached the edge of the Moonlight Pack’s territory.Felix’s private jet landed at a deserted airstrip where his elite guards were already waiting.“Elena,” Felix took my hand, “are you sure you want to see this yourself?”I nodded. “I have to.”The core territory of the Moonlight Pack was in chaos. The wail of ambulance sirens filled the air. Pack members were gathered around the main building, their faces a mix of fear and anger.“Luna Elena!” The housekeeper, Margaret, had tears in her eyes when she saw me. “You’re back!”“Where is Lily?” I asked directly.Margaret’s face turned pale. “In… in the morgue at the medical center. The Alpha won’t let anyone near.”I strode toward the medical center. Felix followed close behind, his guards maintaining a protective formation.Inside the morgue, the air was cold, thick with the sterile scent of death.Lily lay on a gurney, covered by a white sheet.I lifted a corner of the sheet and was immediately struc

Elena's POVThe red mark of my palm stood out on Julian’s cheek. His eyes were wide, as if he couldn’t process what had just happened.“Elena, what are you talking about?” His voice trembled. “How could Lily…”“She’s dead!” I shrieked. “Killed by those Rogues! Just an hour ago!”Felix immediately pulled out his phone, dialing his intelligence network.“Confirm this now,” he said into the phone. “Moonlight Pack territory. A human girl named Lily Anderson.”Julian’s phone rang, too.It was Ryan.“Alpha…” Ryan’s voice was filled with terror and guilt. “Something’s happened.”“Speak!”“Lady Lily… she was found in the parking garage below the penthouse. Those Rogues… they…”The phone slipped from Julian’s hand, crashing onto the marble stage and shattering the screen. His face turned deathly pale.“No,” he shook his head. “Impossible.”"Do you remember what you told those Rogues?" I sneered, my voice dripping venom. "'Her, you don't touch. But for tonight, this block is yours.'"Julian’s bo

Elena's POVThe ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver was glittering with lights.I stood by the champagne table in a deep blue evening gown, a glass of red wine in my hand.“You look nervous,” Felix’s voice was a low murmur beside me.I turned to him. Felix wore a custom-tailored black suit, his dark brown hair perfectly combed, his green eyes full of concern.“I’m fine,” I managed a smile. But Felix saw right through it. “Elena, you don’t have to force yourself. If you don’t want to be at this gala tonight…”“No,” I shook my head. “I have to get used to my new life. The old Elena is dead.”Felix gave me a deep look, then gently touched my shoulder. “Remember, I’m protecting you because you’re Elena. It has nothing to do with who you used to be.”His words warmed me. For the past three months, Felix had given me a level of respect and freedom I had never known. He never asked about my past, never demanded anything in return, just silently offered me his sanctuary.“Ladies

Julian's POVThree days later, there was still no news of Elena.Julian's office was a war room. Reports and maps buried his desk, but she was a ghost."Keep looking!" Julian slammed his fist on the desk. The solid oak splintered with a sharp crack. "Widen the search!"The entire pack could feel the violent aura radiating from him. His subordinates walked on eggshells, terrified of provoking the beast that was about to lose control.“Alpha, you haven’t rested in three days,” Ryan said with concern. “Maybe you should…”“I’m fine!” Julian roared. But he knew he was lying. An emptiness was tearing him apart, a gaping hole in his soul he’d never known. He told himself it was just the loss of a useful political pawn. Nothing more.At two in the afternoon, the office door opened quietly.Lily walked in with a glass of warm milk, a look of concern on her face. She typed on her phone and turned the screen to Julian. [You look exhausted. Have some milk.]Julian didn't even look up. “I’m busy.

  • Reborn to Broke the Alpha   Chapter 5

Julian's POVJulian stormed into the pack's medical center, Lily cradled in his arms. He blew past the waiting area, heading straight for the private wing."Scan her," he snarled at the pack doctor. "Top to bottom. Now."Lily lay on the hospital bed, her face still pale. She grabbed Julian's hand, typing on her phone.[Elena… did she really betray me?]Julian stared at the screen. A flicker of doubt crossed his eyes, but it vanished, replaced by ice."Don't think about her anymore," he said, stroking Lily's hair. "She means nothing."After the examination, the doctor reported, "Alpha, the human is stable. Just shaken. But…"“But what?”"She's pregnant. About six weeks."Julian froze.Lily watched his expression anxiously, her fingers trembling as she typed on her phone: [Are you angry?]Julian gave her a deep look, then gently kissed her forehead.“No. I’m happy.”On the way back to the penthouse, Julian mind-linked the housekeeper, Margaret.“Pack up all of Elena’s things,” his voi

Before I could answer that soul-crushing question, the cafe door was violently kicked open.Five men swaggered in. They reeked of rot and desperation—the unmistakable stench of Rogues. The leader had a nasty scar across his chin. He sniffed the air greedily, like a predator tracking its prey. Then, his eyes locked onto Lily.“Found her,” he grinned, revealing yellowed teeth. “That’s the scent. Pure human, with an Alpha’s mark on her. Prime meat.”Sensing the danger, Lily instinctively shrank behind me.“Elena, who are they?” she typed frantically on her phone. The scarred man strode toward us, his lustful gaze undisguised. “Little beauty, why don’t you come with us? We’ll take real good care of you.”“She’s not going anywhere with you,” I said, standing up to block his path, my voice ice cold.“Well, look at this, a knight in shining armor,” the man sneered. “Little girl, do you have any idea who we are?”“Garbage,” I spat, my voice laced with venom.
