Chapter 2

Author: Peachy
My mate stood before her.

He didn't even glance at me.

In his world, only one person existed: the broken girl on the floor.

He scooped her up in a panic and strode out of the room.

That heart-wrenching tenderness was a poisoned knife, stabbing precisely into my heart.

Half an hour later, timing it for when he would have settled Lily down, I took the elevator to the top floor of the pack headquarters.

The numbers climbed. 68, 69, 70…

The top floor. Julian’s office.

“Luna Elena,” Julian’s assistant, Nathan, bowed respectfully. “The Alpha is handling an urgent matter. If you could please wait a moment.”

I didn’t reply.

My attention was completely captured by the sounds coming from inside the office.

“Don’t be scared. It’ll be better soon.”

It was Julian’s voice.

But I had never heard him speak with such gentleness.

I quietly approached the one-way glass wall of the office.

You could see everything inside, but those inside couldn't see out.

The scene I witnessed made my blood run cold.

Julian was kneeling in front of the sofa, carefully treating a cut on Lily’s arm.

In his hand was a small vial of shimmering liquid.

It was a priceless healing salve, brewed from an Alpha’s blood and rare moonpetal herbs.

“This might sting a little,” Julian said, dabbing the salve onto her wound with his fingertip. “Just bear with me.”

Lily nodded, biting her lower lip to endure the pain.

Julian’s movements were impossibly gentle, as if she were the most delicate porcelain doll in the world. His eyes held a focus and tenderness I had never seen before.

I thought back to my past life.

When I was stabbed by an enemy wolf’s silver blade and lay bleeding on the ground, Julian had only given me a cold glance.

"A Luna should be strong," he'd said, his voice like ice. "It's a scratch. Walk it off."

And now, with the same hands that had watched me bleed, he was applying the most precious medicine to another woman.

“Lady Elena?” Nathan’s voice pulled me back. “You look pale. Do you need to rest?”

I pulled the agreement from my bag. “Give this to the Alpha. Tell him it’s urgent.”

Nathan took the file, looking at the cover in confusion. “This is…”

“A business document,” I lied. “It’s about a joint project with the North.”

Nathan went into the office.

I watched him place my agreement in a stack of other documents on Julian’s desk.

“Alpha, these documents require your signature,” Nathan said.

Julian was still focused on bandaging Lily’s wound. Without looking up, he said, “Just leave them there. I’ll look at them later.”

“One of them is from Lady Elena. She said it’s urgent.”

“Elena?” Julian finally looked up. “She’s here?”

“Yes, she’s waiting for you outside.”

Julian glanced at Lily, then said to Nathan, “Tell her I’m busy. Have her come back another time.”

My heart felt like it had been struck by a sledgehammer.

Come back another time.

His official mate, the Luna of the Moonlight Pack, dismissed like a common business associate.

“But Alpha,” Nathan hesitated, “Lady Elena seems to have something very important to discuss.”

“Nothing,” Julian’s voice was cold steel, “is more important than Lily. Go.”

Nathan walked out, looking helpless. “I’m sorry, Lady Elena. The Alpha said—”

“I heard him,” I cut him off.

I looked into the office, where Julian was now gently brushing Lily’s hair from her face. She smiled like a cherished child.

“Those documents,” I told Nathan, my voice dangerously low. "Make sure he signs every single one today. Especially mine."

“Of course,” Nathan nodded. “I’ll remind the Alpha.”

I turned and left.

Three hours later, my phone rang.

“Elena, what the hell is this?” Julian’s voice was a furious snarl. “A Mate Rejection Agreement? Is this some kind of sick joke?”

I sat in front of my fireplace, watching the dancing flames. “You signed it.”

“I… I thought it was a business contract!”

“You signed it without even reading it,” my voice was terrifyingly calm. “That says everything.”

“Elena, you get over here right now! We need to talk!”

“There’s nothing to talk about, Julian. The agreement is in effect. According to pack law, we have a three-day cooling-off period. After three days, I will initiate the formal severing ceremony.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” he roared. “You are my mate! My Luna!”

“No,” I said, hanging up the phone. “I’m nothing.”

I walked to the closet in my bedroom and pulled out the robe hanging in the very back.

It was made of pure white silk, embroidered with a silver moon and stars.

It was the ceremonial robe I wore when I became Luna, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself.

It was my most treasured possession.

Holding it, I walked back to the fireplace and, without hesitation, tossed it into the flames.

The silk caught fire instantly, the silver embroidery twisting and melting in the blaze.

“Luna!”

I turned to see my housekeeper, Margaret, standing in the doorway, her eyes wide with shock and confusion.

“Luna, that robe is your most precious treasure…” her voice trembled. “Why would you burn it?”

I watched the flames devour the robe that held all my happiest memories.

“This pack will have a new mistress soon,” I said, watching the last of the silk turn to ash. "And this... this will just be in her way."

Elena's POVTwelve hours later, we reached the edge of the Moonlight Pack’s territory.Felix’s private jet landed at a deserted airstrip where his elite guards were already waiting.“Elena,” Felix took my hand, “are you sure you want to see this yourself?”I nodded. “I have to.”The core territory of the Moonlight Pack was in chaos. The wail of ambulance sirens filled the air. Pack members were gathered around the main building, their faces a mix of fear and anger.“Luna Elena!” The housekeeper, Margaret, had tears in her eyes when she saw me. “You’re back!”“Where is Lily?” I asked directly.Margaret’s face turned pale. “In… in the morgue at the medical center. The Alpha won’t let anyone near.”I strode toward the medical center. Felix followed close behind, his guards maintaining a protective formation.Inside the morgue, the air was cold, thick with the sterile scent of death.Lily lay on a gurney, covered by a white sheet.I lifted a corner of the sheet and was immediately struc

Elena's POVThe red mark of my palm stood out on Julian’s cheek. His eyes were wide, as if he couldn’t process what had just happened.“Elena, what are you talking about?” His voice trembled. “How could Lily…”“She’s dead!” I shrieked. “Killed by those Rogues! Just an hour ago!”Felix immediately pulled out his phone, dialing his intelligence network.“Confirm this now,” he said into the phone. “Moonlight Pack territory. A human girl named Lily Anderson.”Julian’s phone rang, too.It was Ryan.“Alpha…” Ryan’s voice was filled with terror and guilt. “Something’s happened.”“Speak!”“Lady Lily… she was found in the parking garage below the penthouse. Those Rogues… they…”The phone slipped from Julian’s hand, crashing onto the marble stage and shattering the screen. His face turned deathly pale.“No,” he shook his head. “Impossible.”"Do you remember what you told those Rogues?" I sneered, my voice dripping venom. "'Her, you don't touch. But for tonight, this block is yours.'"Julian’s bo

Elena's POVThe ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver was glittering with lights.I stood by the champagne table in a deep blue evening gown, a glass of red wine in my hand.“You look nervous,” Felix’s voice was a low murmur beside me.I turned to him. Felix wore a custom-tailored black suit, his dark brown hair perfectly combed, his green eyes full of concern.“I’m fine,” I managed a smile. But Felix saw right through it. “Elena, you don’t have to force yourself. If you don’t want to be at this gala tonight…”“No,” I shook my head. “I have to get used to my new life. The old Elena is dead.”Felix gave me a deep look, then gently touched my shoulder. “Remember, I’m protecting you because you’re Elena. It has nothing to do with who you used to be.”His words warmed me. For the past three months, Felix had given me a level of respect and freedom I had never known. He never asked about my past, never demanded anything in return, just silently offered me his sanctuary.“Ladies

Julian's POVThree days later, there was still no news of Elena.Julian's office was a war room. Reports and maps buried his desk, but she was a ghost."Keep looking!" Julian slammed his fist on the desk. The solid oak splintered with a sharp crack. "Widen the search!"The entire pack could feel the violent aura radiating from him. His subordinates walked on eggshells, terrified of provoking the beast that was about to lose control.“Alpha, you haven’t rested in three days,” Ryan said with concern. “Maybe you should…”“I’m fine!” Julian roared. But he knew he was lying. An emptiness was tearing him apart, a gaping hole in his soul he’d never known. He told himself it was just the loss of a useful political pawn. Nothing more.At two in the afternoon, the office door opened quietly.Lily walked in with a glass of warm milk, a look of concern on her face. She typed on her phone and turned the screen to Julian. [You look exhausted. Have some milk.]Julian didn't even look up. “I’m busy.

Julian's POVJulian stormed into the pack's medical center, Lily cradled in his arms. He blew past the waiting area, heading straight for the private wing."Scan her," he snarled at the pack doctor. "Top to bottom. Now."Lily lay on the hospital bed, her face still pale. She grabbed Julian's hand, typing on her phone.[Elena… did she really betray me?]Julian stared at the screen. A flicker of doubt crossed his eyes, but it vanished, replaced by ice."Don't think about her anymore," he said, stroking Lily's hair. "She means nothing."After the examination, the doctor reported, "Alpha, the human is stable. Just shaken. But…"“But what?”"She's pregnant. About six weeks."Julian froze.Lily watched his expression anxiously, her fingers trembling as she typed on her phone: [Are you angry?]Julian gave her a deep look, then gently kissed her forehead.“No. I’m happy.”On the way back to the penthouse, Julian mind-linked the housekeeper, Margaret.“Pack up all of Elena’s things,” his voi

Before I could answer that soul-crushing question, the cafe door was violently kicked open.Five men swaggered in. They reeked of rot and desperation—the unmistakable stench of Rogues. The leader had a nasty scar across his chin. He sniffed the air greedily, like a predator tracking its prey. Then, his eyes locked onto Lily.“Found her,” he grinned, revealing yellowed teeth. “That’s the scent. Pure human, with an Alpha’s mark on her. Prime meat.”Sensing the danger, Lily instinctively shrank behind me.“Elena, who are they?” she typed frantically on her phone. The scarred man strode toward us, his lustful gaze undisguised. “Little beauty, why don’t you come with us? We’ll take real good care of you.”“She’s not going anywhere with you,” I said, standing up to block his path, my voice ice cold.“Well, look at this, a knight in shining armor,” the man sneered. “Little girl, do you have any idea who we are?”“Garbage,” I spat, my voice laced with venom.
