The door slammed open.

The entire pack fell silent as everyone saw Elara, half-naked, in Elias’s bed.

“Lyra!” Elara screamed, falling off the bed.

She stared at me, and her face twisted with unbridled hatred.

“You dared—”

In my past life, I had kept this quiet to protect the Silverclaw pack. Elara knew I had promised my pack I would look after all pack members.

She was convinced that even if she climbed into Elias’s bed, I would never dare make a scene.

But she was wrong.

I was not only going to expose her, but also let every member of the pack see her true colors.

Selene, Luna of the Blackstone pack, slapped her so hard her head snapped sideways.

“A lesser blood,” she spat. “You dare climb into my son’s bed on his bonding night? This union was blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. Do you think my word carries no weight? Or do you spit on the entire pack’s honor?”

Elara trembled, unable to speak.

Elias pulled her into his arms.

“I took her,” he said flatly. “This has nothing to do with Elara.”

Selene froze.

I froze too.

I looked into Elias’s eyes. There was not a single trace of drunkenness in his eyes, only cold, unshakable resolve.

Then I realized.

He was reborn too.

And in those depths, I saw nothing but blind devotion to Elara and unbridled hatred for me.

Selene’s hand tightened around her silver dagger.

“Step aside.”

Elias drew his silver dagger and made his choice clear.

“Mother, if you harm her, I will renounce my right to the Alpha throne and leave the pack with her forever.”

Selene’s hand trembled.

The whole pack fell into dead silence.

“Let Elias take Elara as his official mate,” I said calmly, breaking the tension.

Selene spun around to stare at me, stunned. Elias frowned, genuinely confused.

I stood rigid, my fingernails digging half-moons into my palms.

“Her blood runs thin, but it’s enough to bind the two packs’ blood alliance. We are still allies. That is all that matters.”

Elias’s eyes glinted with predatory satisfaction.

He believed I was bending to his will, that I would rather share his crumbs than lose my place at his side.

Selene’s breath hitched.

“This is so unfair to you. I swore to your pack to watch over you. How can I break that sacred vow?”

The next morning, Kael left with most of his warriors. He left twenty of his best warriors behind to guard me, with strict orders not to let me leave the camp under any circumstances. But the guards didn’t listen. They’d seen what I’d done. They’d seen me win battles, save lives, and lead them to victory. They knew Kael would be dead without me. So as soon as Kael was out of sight, the head guard came to my building and opened the door.“Let’s go, Lady Lyra,” he said. “Let’s bring our Alpha home.”I nodded, too grateful for words. We shifted into our wolf forms and took off after Kael, following the trail his army had left through the snow.We chased them for two days, running nonstop through the frozen wasteland. On the third day, I heard the sound of battle in the distance. I ran faster, my paws pounding against the ice and snow. When I crested the hill, I saw them. Kael’s army was surrounded by hundreds of Ironfang warriors and a group of black-clad soldiers I recognized immediat

I woke up in my building, Kael sitting beside me.“You’ve been asleep for twelve hours,” he said, his voice soft. “You haven’t slept more than three hours a night in two weeks. Why are you pushing yourself so hard?”I looked up at him, my eyes stinging with tears. “Because you died here, Kael. In my last life, you died in these mountains, and no one even cared. Elias called you a failure. He said you got yourself killed because you were reckless. But I know the truth. And I’m not going to let that happen again. I’m not going to lose you.”He stared at me, his golden eyes filled with an emotion I couldn’t name. He reached out and brushed a strand of hair away from my face, his fingers lingering on my cheek. Before I could say anything, he stood up. “Get some rest,” he said, turning toward the door. “The final battle is in two days.” I stood in front of him, blocking his path. “Don’t go,” I said. “It’s a trap. You will die.”“I have to go,” he said, his voice gentle but firm. “If w

We arrived at the northern border camp three days later, just as the first snow began to fall. Kael immediately threw himself into his work. He wouldn’t let me go on patrol. He wouldn’t let me attend the strategy meetings. And every time he left the camp, he posted two armed guards outside my building with strict orders not to let me leave for any reason.I tolerated it for exactly seven days.On the eighth morning, I waited by the entrance until Kael returned from a dawn patrol. Before he could step inside, I stepped in front of him, blocking his path.“Why won’t you let me fight?” I demanded. He sighed, rubbing a hand over his tired eyes. “It’s too dangerous.”I crossed my arms, saying, “Don’t treat me like a helpless child.”“You’re the Silverclaw heir,” he said, his voice firm. “If something happens to you, the blood alliance between our packs breaks. The entire territory will fall into chaos.”“I’m not just the Silverclaw heir,” I shot back. “I’m your mate. And I’m not going t

Kael spent the rest of the day preparing his warriors for deployment. That evening, he showed up at my door, his pack slung over his shoulder. “We’re going to see Selene.” He said, his voice flat.I frowned. “Why?”“We’re canceling the mating bond.”The words hit me like a physical blow. I stared at him, stunned. “What?”“You heard me,” he said, turning to walk down the hallway. I hurried to catch up with him. “You chose the wrong person, Lyra. All I know is how to hold a blade and guard a border. Elias may be cruel, but he’s better at ruling than I am. You could ally with him first, bide your time, and take him down when the moment is right. You deserve someone who can give you the throne you’ve earned, not a soldier who’ll die on some frozen battlefield.”He dragged me toward Selene’s private suite, his grip firm on my wrist. I didn’t resist. I just stared at his broad back. And suddenly, I stopped dead in my tracks. Kael turned to look at me, confused. I pulled my wrist free

The cold darkness of the lake did not swallow me whole as I’d expected.Strong, calloused arms cut through the icy water, lifting my limp body from the freezing depths before my consciousness faded entirely. I was too weak to open my eyes, too drained to struggle, only able to feel the rough texture of scarred palms against my frostbitten skin. A cold, carved weight was pressed firmly into my trembling palm.It was the worn wolf pendant I’d dropped earlier. The fingers that closed my hand around it lingered for a heartbeat, then pulled away. By the time I forced my heavy eyelids open, the moonlit shore was empty. My chest tightened with unshakable doubt. This scene mirrored the memory I’d clung to for fifteen years down to the smallest detail. As a seven-year-old, I’d slipped through the cracked ice of this exact lake and nearly drowned. I’d always believed Elias had pulled me to safety; the last figure I’d glimpsed through blurry eyes had been his dark silhouette standing over

“What is this?”He stared at the faded wolf engraving on the pendant, then lifted his gaze to mine. “You’ve kept this all these years?”I snatched it back and tucked it safely inside my tunic. “It’s nothing. Just something that matters to me.”For some reason, he raised an eyebrow, and the sharp edge of his anger softened slightly. This pendant had once belonged to Elias. He had dropped it the night he pulled me from the freezing lake when we were seven.I had been foolish enough to fall in love with him over that single act of kindness, and I had carried this pendant with me for fifteen years.“Guards,” he said, his voice losing its icy edge. “Escort Lyra back to Silverclaw territory.”His personal warrior nodded sharply and stepped forward.Kael was always occupied with border duties. He also kept a low profile and disliked making a big scene. So I didn’t announce our mating publicly. So no one in the pack had any idea I was going to bond with Kael when the monthly Full Moon Rite a
