Chapter 1

“About that offer you once asked... about making me your wife. Does that offer still stand?”

Right after I opened my eyes in this life, I called Luca’s uncle. I didn't play games. From the other side of the call, Vincenzo paused, a small break showing through his strict control.

“Do you truly plan to leave Luca? Elena, think it through. His blood is my blood. I am his uncle.”

I understood the rules inside the Outfit. I knew how heavy that title carried. Yet the cold ground and the scent of my child’s blood stayed clear in my mind, and I did not hesitate. I answered yes and arranged the date for tomorrow.

The call had barely ended when Luca pushed the door open and rushed inside.

“Elena, the wedding is canceled,” he said harshly. “Tomorrow, I will marry the woman I really love.”

I blinked. According to the earlier timeline, tomorrow should have been our wedding day, the day he officially received his brother’s land and placed Sophia under his "protection."

Wait. Had he traveled back, too?

"Deal."

I did not waste effort arguing. I grabbed the prenuptial agreement, the one tied to the family alliance, and tore it apart directly before his eyes.

Luca froze. He did not expect me to give in so quickly. Then a proud, mocking smile appeared on his mouth.

“What are you trying to do, Elena? Playing hard to get? The whole family knows you’re obsessed with me. No strings attached, we’re just… finished?”

The woman I once was would have crawled across broken glass for him. But now, after seeing my child die just for a piece of bread, the only feeling left when I looked at him was cold disgust.

I did not give him another look. I walked out through the door and headed directly toward Vincenzo’s territory.

When Vincenzo appeared before me, his expression cold, distant, and overwhelmingly handsome, I nearly lost control. In my past life, after my death, this man, the true Don who controlled the family from Sicily, returned to New York overnight to take care of my funeral.

While Luca was busy celebrating in some neon-lit club, unwilling to accept that I was already gone, Vincenzo was grieving. He devoted the rest of his life to tearing the world apart for revenge, and eventually, he died trapped in his own sorrow.

Not this time. I wouldn’t allow him to repeat that fate.

Vincenzo moved without delay. He arranged the wedding for the following day at the same Plaza Hotel Luca had booked. He secured the only high-fashion custom gown of its kind in the world and announced to the entire underworld that the Don was getting married.

At the same time, Luca stayed occupied as well. He bought a high-security villa to serve as a love nest for him and Sophia. His brother hadn't even been in the ground forty-eight hours before he moved her inside.

I blocked Luca’s number. To retaliate, he had his men throw my belongings onto the street, but he kept my cat locked inside the apartment.

I had no option except to return for her.

The door of the apartment opened wide, and Sophia walked out, her hips moving as she wore a face with a bitter expression.

"So, you’re Luca’s ex? You’re as thin as a toothpick, honey. No surprise he left you.”

She pushed out her chest, looked me up and down, then purposely knocked her shoulder against mine while walking past. Luca came right after her, his eyes fixed on her body like glue that wouldn’t come loose.

I didn’t have time to watch their cheap drama. I moved to pick up my cat, but Luca suddenly noticed the shine on my ring finger. He rushed forward and grabbed my arm angrily.

"Elena! What the hell is that?!"

What did it look like? An engagement ring.

He reacted as if a slap had just landed on his face. His expression changed from shock to a crooked, ugly look of anger. In his arrogant little world, the woman who had stayed with him through every struggle should have been left broken and alone, not instantly turning to someone stronger and greater the moment he threw her away.

After saying those words, I didn't spare Luca another glance.I tightened my grip on Vincenzo's arm and walked straight past him with steady steps. The guards lining the corridor quickly followed, completely shutting out the sound of Luca's desperate wailing and his undignified groveling behind us.For a piece of trash like him, I didn't need to get my own hands dirty anymore. All I had to do was stand higher than him and live a better life than him—that was the most lethal punishment of all.But I underestimated Luca's madness.Pushed to the absolute brink, Luca poured all of his regret and unvented rage onto Sophia.Sophia never made it to Florida. On her way to the airport, carrying a massive amount of cash from selling off his real estate, Luca rammed her off the road with a borrowed, unregistered black sedan.A few days later, the NYPD pulled a gruesome female corpse from an abandoned shallow bank along the Hudson River. It was Sophia. The police's internal report was delivered st

Just as the shredder swallowed the photo proving Sophia's betrayal, the mahogany double doors to the study swung open.Vincenzo strode in. His pace was noticeably more hurried than usual; the guards outside hadn't even had time to announce him.Stepping into the room, he adjusted his tie, trying to put on a calm, nonchalant front.Looking at him like this, I actually found it a little amusing. He hesitated for a moment before bringing up what happened in that Brooklyn alley."Luca heard the phone call," Vincenzo said, his voice low."He knows everything now. He knows how Antonio died, and he knows how Sophia framed you."After saying that, Vincenzo paused, a clear look of hesitation and probing in his eyes.He was afraid that I'd be sad hearing how far Luca had fallen, and even more afraid that I might look back on ten years of devotion and feel even a shred of pity for the man.He finally asked the question he'd been keeping bottled up inside for a long time."Elena, the day before th

Life after the wedding was peaceful and filled with power.I officially took over the Moretti Family's massive empire.I formally took charge of the Moretti Family's three top-tier art auction houses in Manhattan, as well as their underground private banking network spread across the US.On top of that, Vincenzo handed me the financial control of all the high-end casinos under the Family's name.I was no longer that bottom-feeder woman who had to fight junkies in the street for ten bucks.Every morning, the Family's capos and bosses would arrive at the conference room of our Long Island estate right on time. They would keep their heads bowed, respectfully reporting the monthly books and the movements on their turf to me.All I had to do was sit at the head of the long table, review the documents, and sign my name.Vincenzo gave me absolute control. He never interfered with my decisions.Whatever rules I laid down, the entire New York Mafia had to strictly obey.He backed up his wedding

Vincenzo’s appearance instantly silenced the noisy hall. The Mafia bosses who had just been chatting loudly snapped their mouths shut, lowering their heads to respectfully greet the true Don.No one dared to make a single sound.Luca was stunned at first. After a brief moment of shock, he quickly slapped on a fawning expression and hurried forward. He naturally assumed Vincenzo was there to back him up."Uncle Vincenzo, don't misunderstand," Luca pointed at me, explaining eagerly."Elena came here to cause trouble. She can't accept the fact that I dumped her, so she wants to ruin my wedding. I'll have my guys throw her out right now, I absolutely won't let her ruin your mood.""Ruin the wedding?" Vincenzo let out a cold scoff. His deep eyes bled raw, undisguised murderous intent.Vincenzo didn't even spare Luca a second glance. He walked straight past him and stopped right by my side.He reached out, his touch impossibly gentle as he brushed my cheek.Once he confirmed I wasn't hurt, h

Sophia strolled over, a glass of champagne in hand. The two of them didn't even try to hide the suggestive looks they were giving each other right in front of me."You really are like a piece of gum stuck to a shoe. Luca already told you he didn't want you, yet here you are, showing your face at the church dressed like this."Sophia looked me up and down, eyeing my custom gown, and let out a sneer. Her words were laced with venom, and the malice in her eyes was completely undisguised. In my past life, I never realized just how deep her hatred for me ran. I’d been naive enough to think all those "accidents" on our turf were just bad luck.Turns out, I’d been completely blind, leaving my back wide open to them. When I kept my face blank and didn't say a word, Luca's jaw tightened in annoyance. He shot me a cold warning."Are you deaf? Didn't you hear Sophia talking to you? You have zero respect for the rules. I don't know why I ever brought a street rat like you into this Family."Hah. W

As soon as Luca saw him, his face immediately changed into a flattering smile.“Uncle Vincenzo! What are you doing here? It’s nothing, really, just teaching a little lesson to a common thief who doesn’t understand her place.”Vincenzo stopped where he stood. His eyes skipped over Luca and settled directly on me. When he noticed the blood on my lips, his eyes darkened.“Who hit her?”Sophia stepped forward proudly. “I did. Someone had to teach that bitch a lesson. She’s so stubborn. My hand even hurts.”She tried to move closer and lean against Vincenzo like a victim. Vincenzo pulled away with obvious disgust. He walked toward me, grabbed my wrist, and looked coldly at the men around us. They stepped back immediately as if burned.“Who gave you the fucking permission to touch her?”Fear flashed in Luca’s eyes. He forced an awkward laugh, his voice shaking.“Uncle, you don't understand what’s happening. She’s my ex. She slept in my bed for years. She’s gone insane. She’s been stalking me
