FAZER LOGIN(ISOLDE)
I woke up the next morning, full of energy. If anything, having my family back, complete and whole gave me a renewed energy. I'd fight the whole world to keep them like this.
My mother's bubbly laugh was still ringing in my ears. In this life, I was determined to keep that laugh no matter what it takes.
My mother soon came to wake me up, but I was already up. Soon I was done getting ready and found my way into the pack academy.
I headed into my classroom, took my seat, waiting for Freya and Bryan to come confront me about leaving the school without them yesterday. They both soon arrived, but the confrontation never happened.
Freya kept her distance from me all morning. She hovered near her usual friends, occasionally glancing my way, biting her lip like she was working up the courage to approach me and then thinking better of it.
Bryan also didn't come near me either. He sat two rows over me in the first period, his jaw tight, refusing to look in my direction even once.
It should have satisfied me, watching them tiptoe around me for once. Instead, it only made me more alert.
Sitting there and not bothering to go to them either, Kairos walked into the class. Glancing at me once and looking away before going to take the seat on the last row. My eyes wandered to him every now and then.
“Why wasn't he approaching me?”
In my past life, he'd found reasons to be near me constantly, starting from the very day he transferred. I'd push him away, warning him to stay away from me, telling him that I already have a mate and intend to marry him.
However, apart from that one glance while walking into the class, he never looked at me.
Whatever happened to him after my death? Was he killed trying to save me? Maybe Bryan and Freya got to him… and he was the one reborn with me? Was that why he changed?
I couldn't reach a conclusion. Still lost in my thoughts, the bells that announced the start of the combat class sounded.
I rose from my seat, alongside the other students and headed to the combat hall.
The combat teacher was already waiting by the time we all walked in. He wasted no time calling out the pairings.
“Declan Briggs and Vivian Holland…” he called out pairs of students who immediately took positions.
When he got my name, he paired me with Bryan, the same as he had every single class for the past years. Bryan and I were the school's golden couple, after all. Future Alpha and future Luna. So, we naturally got paired together in every combat class.
"I'd like to switch partners," I said before the combat teacher could move on.
The whole room went quiet. Bryan's head snapped toward me.
“Isolde, we have limited time for this. Settle your couple fights between yourselves and don't disrupt my class,” the teacher warned.
But I stood my ground. When he saw I wasn't relenting, he sighed.
"Who would you like to pair with?" He asked, brow raised.
I looked past Bryan, toward the far side of the training ring. "Kairos."
Whispers broke out immediately. I kept my expression calm, refusing to give anyone the satisfaction of a reaction.
Staring at Kairos's face, he gave nothing away. His face remained calm. I couldn't figure out what was going on in his mind. He simply nodded once in silent agreement.
“Seems like the future Alpha position will be going to someone else now,” one of Bryan's friends said out loud, earning a laugh from other students.
“Don't be so disheartened, Bryan. Just buy her chocolates…” more laughs resonated.
Bryan's face went red with rage. The exact reaction I wanted. My lips pulled up in a satisfied smile.
"Freya," he snapped, turning toward her without so much as a glance in my direction. "You're with me."
But I didn't care one bit.
The training match began minutes later. I stood at the end of the hall beside Kairos, watching Bryan across from us, his shoulders tight with barely restrained anger.
The match started. It immediately became clear almost immediately that this wasn't going to be a normal sparring match. Kairos and Bryan sparred first. I stood by the side, watching.
Kairos moved first, fast and precise, each strike landing precisely.
"Careful," he said, deflecting a wild swing from Bryan with ease. "Wouldn't want the future Alpha to embarrass himself." Each word from him was calculated to needle at Bryan's pride further. He spoke in low teasing tones. I could hear as I stood close enough but the teacher at the other side of the hall couldn't.
Bryan roared, throwing himself forward with more force than required. Kairos sidestepped him easily, landing a blow that sent Bryan stumbling. The students around us immediately went silent, watching in stunned disbelief as the pack's future Alpha, the golden boy of the academy, got outmatched again and again.
By the fourth exchange, Bryan was bleeding from a cut above his brow, breathing hard, humiliation written plainly across his face. The whispers grew louder.
That was when he lost it completely.
His claws extended past the training limits, his eyes flashing gold as his control slipped entirely. He lunged at Kairos. Tearing his claw across his arm. Kairos just let him!
“What the heck is he doing?”
"Enough!" The teacher's voice resonated. He stepped between them, forcing Bryan back. "Thorne, that was an illegal strike. You know the rules."
Bryan's chest heaved, his eyes darting toward me like this was somehow my fault.
"Report to the disciplinary committee immediately!” The teacher ordered, his voice sharp with disapproval. "You've violated the rules.”
Just like that, Bryan was taken out of the hall.
After Bryan was led out, I sat on a bench by the side of the hall, pressing a cloth against the small scrape on my arm I got from shielding myself from Bryan's wild swing.
“Kairos, go get your wound treated at the infirmary. The rest of you, keep sparing.” The teacher barked instructions, his eyes flashing with irritation.
“I got an injury too,” I called out to the teacher before he could turn away.
“Go to the infirmary with Kairos then," the teacher waved me off.
I trailed behind him in an uncomfortable silence. Followed him inside, taking the seat beside him while the healer looked him over.
This was my chance, finally, to ask him the question that had been eating at me the whole day.
I opened my mouth, ready to ask if he remembered anything from before, anything at all-
The infirmary door slammed open.
Bryan stood in the doorway, chest still heaving, blood dried along his brow, eyes locked on the two of us sitting side by side.
(ISOLDE)Panic coiled tight in my chest, sharp and suffocating. Bryan’s hands were locked on my arms, his face inches from mine. I had no clue how to break free from the mess I’d walked straight into. Just as dread settled heavily deep within me, a startled yelp cut through the dark silence right beside me.In the exact same second, the heavy iron cellar door swung wide open.My heart dropped completely. This was it. I’d fallen headfirst into their perfectly laid trap.I could still feel his hands firmly gripping my arms. I braced myself for the worst. I waited for the teacher’s shocked angry voice upon finding us like this, our current position would clearly be misunderstood. Freya and Bryan’s plan was finally going to land exactly how they wanted. I clenched my jaw, hating I’d fallen so easily for this. The bright outdoor light from the bonfire flooded into the dim room, burning my eyes. I looked up toward the open door. There stood the teacher, her gaze sweeping fast across the
(ISOLDE)Barely a minute after the announcement, Freya walked straight toward me. Just like always, her expression was warm and jovial for anyone watching. She stopped directly in front of me, tilting her head with that familiar fake soft smile she always wore when she was about to corner me into something.“Isolde, you promised to join my team before the trip,” she said smoothly, her eyes lighting up and she smiled warmly at me. “You have to come with me now for the pairing game…hurry up. You don’t want to keep the others waiting,” she said aloud, bringing attention to us and grabbing my arm.I knew better than to refuse outright. Saying no now would paint me as petty, uncooperative, and bitter in front of the entire pack. I simply nodded and followed along with her without a single word of pushback.Getting to where her teammates were. It was me, Freya, Bryan, and three of her minions. Our small group stood clustered together by the bonfire edge. Once everyone stood with their tea
(ISOLDE)The bonfire was quick to arrive. It was the evening of the same day it was announced. Usually, the academy announces events weeks ahead or worse a day or two ahead. Announcing it on the very same day felt suspicious. I knew Bryan must have pulled his future Alpha card to push it forward. Still, I went.I headed to my locker, grabbed a few essentials, then walked toward the school bus that was already waiting alongside the other students. I spotted Freya about to climb onto it right beside me. The moment her eyes landed on me. She halted her steps , turning towards me and smiling at me. I forced myself to return her smile. But it still came out a little tight-lipped. I covered the distance between us. We stepped onto the bus together.Just as we got into the bus fully, I suddenly noticed Kairos. So he just didn’t show up for the urgent gathering earlier. He was sitting close to the window, the seat next to him empty. Bryan sat right behind him. As I tried to look away, Brya
(ISOLDE)Letting out that declaration, my fingers tightened around the cool ceramic of my teacup, my heart hammering hard against my ribs, I forced my features to stay calm.Straightening my features, I turned back to my mother, my voice coming out quiet and careful.“When exactly are you planning to leave for grandmother’s pack?”She brushed a stray strand of hair back from my face, her expression soft.“About a week from now, darling. Benita needs a little time to wrap up her duties here in the pack hospital before we depart.”A week. Momentary relief alongside a cold dread hit my chest. It was not much time, but it was something. I had seven days to come up with a way to keep her away from Benita’s manipulations, to stop the lies before they could take root. I just had to figure out how.I nodded slowly, forcing a faint smile onto my face. “I understand. I hope grandmother feels better soon.”Mother leaned over and brushed her palm against my cheek before gathering her tea tray and
(ISOLDE)Kairos went still. For a second, something flickered across his face, surprise, maybe even confusion at how strongly I'd reacted. I wasn’t so sure but it was one of these. His grip on my wrist loosened."Why do you look so surprised?" he asked, studying me carefully. "My brother survived an accident years ago. He's been recovering away from the pack ever since. He rarely shows his face in public, so most people don't even remember he exists."I barely registered the rest of what he said.My mind had already raced back to my past life, to the very first time I'd heard Kairos's name. Everyone spoke of him as the sole Alpha heir of Darkridge pack, the only son left after his older brother died in an accident years ago. That was the story I and everyone else were told. But now Kairos was telling me his brother had never died at all.If this piece of my memory was wrong, what else had I gotten wrong?I pulled my wrist free from his grip, gently this time, and stepped back, trying
(KAIROS)Transferring schools in the middle of the semester was not on my bucket list year, but having an insufferable elder brother pushed me to. Arriving at the vast campus, my wolf suddenly went wild. Fighting for dominance. And that was the exact moment I sighted her. Dark hair, deep brown eyes that left me hypnotised. Her scent was akin to honey and vanilla. It was hard keeping my wolf at bay. “Mate.”The sound rumbled from the depths of me. I stared at her from a distance, waiting. The mate pull isn’t felt by one mate. It’s felt by two, so normally her gaze was supposed to find mine but that never happened.I kept my distance, trying to figure out what might be wrong. Then she ditched her boyfriend and chose me during the spar. I thought she finally felt it, but was soon proved otherwise. I kept my face void of emotions and kept watching her. Up until she came to sit next to me in the infirmary, looking like she had something to say but before she could get those words out. B
