“Wake up. You’re going to miss the sunrise.”

Xavier’s voice, soft and warm against my ear, pulled me slowly out of sleep, and I blinked awake to find him already dressed, sitting on the edge of our bed, sunlight barely beginning to break gold across the horizon outside our open balcony doors.

“What time is it?” I mumbled, burying my face deeper into the pillow.

“Early. Worth it, I promise.” He tugged the blanket gently away from me, laughing when I groaned in protest. “Come on, Mrs. Nightfall.

  • Reborn to ruin him    Six months

“Sign here, and we officially have our biggest client yet.”Marcus, my newest account manager, slid the contract across my desk with visible excitement, and I signed it with a steady hand, six months of building this company into something real finally paying off in front of me.“That’s the Hendricks account,” I said, reviewing the final terms one more time before handing it back. “The one we’ve been courting since February.”“The very same.” Marcus grinned. “They specifically asked for you to lead the account personally. Apparently word’s gotten around about how thoroughly you handle client concerns.”Pride bloomed warm in my chest, entirely different from the exhausted survival I’d once mistaken for accomplishment. “Let’s not disappoint them, then.”Six months had passed since Xavier and I returned from our honeymoon, six months that had somehow managed to feel both impossibly fast and remarkably steady all at once. The company had grown from three employees to eleven, our client ro

  • Reborn to ruin him    Amara

“Is that her? Is that my mother?”I stood in Ashford’s office, the photograph trembling slightly in my hands, a young woman smiling back at me from decades ago, laughter caught mid-motion, her whole face lit with an easy, unguarded joy I’d never once seen in the few pictures I already owned.“That’s her,” Ashford confirmed gently. “Taken the summer before she met your father, according to what Amara told me.”I traced my finger along the edge of the photograph, studying every detail, the shape of her smile so similar to something I sometimes caught in my own reflection, a resemblance I’d never had anyone to point out before now.“She’s beautiful,” I whispered.“You look remarkably like her,” Ashford said softly. “I noticed it the very first time you walked into my office, though I didn’t feel it was my place to say so until now.”Xavier’s hand found mine, steady and warm, and I looked up to find him watching me with something tender and understanding in his expression.“Ready?” he ask

  • Reborn to ruin him    Home

“I don’t want to leave.”I stood on our balcony one final time, watching the sun rise over water I’d grown to love more deeply than I ever expected possible, Xavier’s arms wrapped around me from behind.“We’ll come back,” he murmured against my hair. “This isn’t goodbye to any of it. Just goodbye to this particular week.”“I know.” I leaned into him, savoring the last few quiet moments before reality reasserted itself. “I think I needed this more than I even realized. Not just the rest. The reminder that peace is actually possible for us now.”“It’s more than possible,” Xavier said softly. “It’s ours now, Kara. Nobody gets to take it away.”We packed slowly, reluctantly, both of us stealing extra minutes to simply stand on the balcony one last time, to walk the beach barefoot once more before the car arrived to take us to the airport. The flight home passed in comfortable quiet, Xavier’s hand steady in mine, both of us watching the ocean stretch endless beneath the plane before slowly

  • Reborn to ruin him    Amara’s answer

“What’s happened with Amara?”I sat on the edge of the bed, phone pressed to my ear, Xavier settling beside me with a steadying hand on my back, morning light still soft through the villa windows.“She reached out to our office yesterday,” Ashford said, his voice carrying careful warmth rather than alarm. “Apparently Diane’s team located her, and word must have traveled faster than anyone anticipated. She called us directly, Kara, before we’d even finished drafting a formal letter of introduction.”My heart lurched, equal parts fear and hope. “What did she say?”“She’s known about you for years.” Ashford paused, letting that settle. “She said your mother wrote to her twice, near the end, trying to reconcile. She never responded to either letter, and she’s spent years regretting that silence.”Tears pricked unexpectedly behind my eyes. “She knew about me? All this time?”“She knew you existed. She didn’t know what happened to your parents, not the details, not until she saw the news co

  • Reborn to ruin him    Wonder over fear

“I want to try something today. Something that scares me a little.”Xavier looked up from his coffee, curiosity replacing the lazy contentment that had settled over his features all morning. “What kind of something?”“Diving,” I said. “There’s a shop down the beach offering beginner lessons. I’ve never done it before. I’ve never even considered it before, actually, given how carefully I used to plan every single risk out of my life.”Something soft and proud crossed his expression. “I’d love that. Truly, Kara. Watching you choose something just because it interests you, not because it’s useful or safe or expected.”We walked hand in hand to the small dive shop an hour later, and I felt my nerves building with every step, old habits of caution still whispering warnings even now, even here, even with nothing actually threatening me at all.“You’re allowed to be nervous,” Xavier said, sensing the tension in my grip. “Nervous isn’t the same as unsafe. I’ll be right beside you the entire t

I didn’t fly us across the world for you to sleep through the best part.”I let him pull me up, grumbling half-heartedly, and followed him out onto the balcony wrapped in nothing but a thin robe, the warm ocean air settling soft and gentle against my skin. The view stole whatever complaint I’d been building. Water stretched endless and calm before us, the sky slowly bleeding gold and pink and soft lavender, the villa’s private stretch of beach empty except for the two of us and the quiet rhythm
