The plan was simple but very complicated, I would still work at the company I built with Blake while gathering everything I needed to take back everything I invested in that company, every single dime. ,but at the same time I need to take charge of my father’s company without Blake knowing, I had to be discreet but I would never let them bully me again.

And so the next morning, I went back to my house.

The house was empty and messy by the time I got to the there, it was obvious that they thought I would clean up, as I was so eager to clean up their after them in my past life.

I switched my phone back on and saw just one message from Blake.

“I don’t know what stupid act you think you’re trying to put up, but if you’re not back in the next 1 hour, don’t come crawling back”.

Smiling I quickly packed up all my important documents and all my clothes and jewelry, not that I owned much, Blake made sure I barely got anything good for myself.

Soon I was leaving the house, this would be last time I would set foot in this house until I make sure it was sold.

And soon I was on my way out.

I arrived at trust groups, the company i had put my blood and sweat into

The receptionist barely acknowledged my presence, and as I passed, she and a co worker began murmuring, of course I knew they were gossiping about me

Ever since the ceo made Monique his “personal assistant”the entire building treated me like a joke, they made fun of me behind my back and most were bold enough to do it to my face but this time, I wasn’t going to tolerate such disrespect anymore.

The elevator door opened in front of my office, And I walked into my old office the one Blake had forced me to give up for monique.

Monique was inside, feet kicked up on my desk, chewing gum loudly and scrolling on her phone

She looked up and glanced at me before immediately looking back at her phone

I walked in and sat down, setting up my space for work.

“Blake wants to see you” Monique said without looking at me

Slowly set up my system, I totally ignored her.

“Excuse me, are you deaf or you want to act like one”

I slowly stood up from the chair, and walked in front of her.

Dragged her down from my desk and gave her a resounding slap.

She staggered back, her phone slipping from her hand and hitting the floor.

For a second, she just stared at me, eyes wide, disbelief frozen on her face. The gum slipped from her mouth.

Her hand flew to her cheek. Her lips trembled, eyes filling fast

“Are you crazy” she gasped

I leaned closer to her, lowering my voice

“Don’t you ever talk to me in that tone, if you still want your face intact, and I never want to catch you sitting on my desk ever again, now get your filthy self out of my office

Her breath hitched, she scrambled to her feet, stumbling as she slowly walked away from me.

And as I slowly sat down on my sit, I yelled out to her

“And tell Blake I’ll see him when I’m ready.”

Monique’s eyes flickered to the door, then back to me. Her jaw tightened, she picked up her phone and rushed out.

I sat waiting.

My hands were steady not shaking

In my past life, my hands would have shaken, my heart would have raced, I would have apologized.

But not this time.

I logged into the system

All the accounts were built by me, all contracts, documents, everything, Blake only signed papers, he never read them.

The investors trusted my name, they only knew Blake as my co founder, I handled everything.

I pulled the shareholders records

Good

My shares were still untouched.

I sent a single mail to legal team

Then another to the external financial adviser I trusted in my past life, someone Blake never knew existed.

My phone buzzed.

Blake.

I ignored it

Five minutes later, the office door slammed open

Blake walked in, rage written all over his face, his jaw was tight, eyes dark, Monique stood behind him, red eyes and hands on her swollen cheek.

I smiled gently.

“What the hell did you do”? He snapped

“You raised your hand to my assistant?”he continued. “ have you lost your mind?”

I didnt bother looking up from my system

“She disrespected me and I corrected her”

By now a lot of people were gathered outside watching the drama, I knew they were used to me always apologizing and begging for the little things, so I was ready to give them a show.

Blake looked at me angrily but I could see a hint of confusion in his face as her expected me to be on my knees by now

“Who have you the right to correct her, you think you can lay your hands on anyone, who the hell do you think you are?” He continued shouting at me at the top of his voice obviously to humiliate me.

I looked at him then. Really looked.

In my past life, this man terrified me. His voice alone made my chest tighten, the arrogance the entitlement, the way he mistook silence for submission.

“I’m still a major shareholder, I have the right to do with anyone who disrespects me as I please, I get to decide who stays and who leaves, so don’t you ever ask me that silly question again.”

He looked so shocked I thought he might faint.

He stepped closer to me when he regained his consciousness a bit

“You disappeared all night, you ignore my calls, you come in here and cause drama, are you trying to embarrass me?”

I shrugged to his dismay

“You seem fine embarrassing yourself”

Silence

The room felt smaller, he stared at me like he was looking at a stranger

“You’re changing” he said slowly

I just smiled.

He leaned down, hands on desk, face on mine.

“Dont come crawling back after putting on this little act of yours, I won’t easily forgive you this time”

I totally ignored him, focusing completely on my system.

“Oh and just before I leave, Monique would be taking over this office, she’s my assistant and she needs to stay closer to me, you can use the other one on the second floor”

I laughed, a kind of laugh I never knew I had in me, I had expected he would say this after all, but I didn’t know how crazy it sounded until now.

They kept looking at me like I lost my sense.

“Oh we will see about that” i said before returning back to my system

My phone was ringing nonstop by the time I got to my car, I sat down for a while but didn’t start the engine, my heart was pounding, I had ignored Monique’s threat and sent the files, I wondered how she would react to it.Few minutes later i was walking into Michael’s office,I had started going there more often since we were becoming more fond of each other. The lobby was buzzing with people, people rushing past with coffee cups, files tucked under thier arms, voices low busy, a few glanced at me and offered greetings.I took the elevator up to Michael’s office, when the elevator door closed only then did I let out a breath I had unknowingly been holding. He was standing by the door by the time I arrivedAnd as soon as I walked in the door, he hugged me, it was a long hug, neither of us wanted to let go“You’ve done amazing, hopefully this is all over” he said while patting my back.I let a small tears fall down my cheeks, it’s been so hard staying this strong but I was glad I had gott

Blake didn’t scream. That was the strange partHe just stood there, frozen in the middle of the living room, staring at the blank laptop screen like it had personally betrayed him. The city lights outside his window blinked calmly.A scam. The word echoed in his heart slow and heavy“No,” he muttered “No this does not make sense.”He refreshed the page again and again. Different platforms different logins. Same results.“This website does not exist”.His fingers trembled with panic, fear.He grabbed his phone and dialed the number the representatives had given him during the negotiations, all went straight to voicemail. He called, every and anyone he could think of, all to no avail.Blake’s breathing got slower, the deal was supposed to change everything, he had already spent the money in his head, new office, new car, new home, press interviews, the kind of fame that sets him far ahead of his competitors. He had pushed the board hard, pressured them, mocked the few who hesitated and e

Micheal didn’t explain the plan immediately instead he stood up, took a walk around my bedroom, seemingly admiring the curtains, checking the windows, quietly opening the door and closing it back. Before finally sitting across me.“Panic is exactly what Monique wants, if you panic, you’ll probably make mistakes and she’s counting on that.”“I’m not panicking,” i lied, folding my eyes tightly around myself. He raised an eyebrow. “Your hands are shaking.”I exhaled and let them drop to my lap.”Fine, I’m angry. and scared. And furious that she thinks she can corner me like this.”Micheal nodded, unbothered. “Good.Anger sharpens the mind.He pulled out his phone and sent a quick message.“I’ve looped on the investigator, he was a bit sloppy to let her find out he was tailing her, but he promised to fix everything.”“He also suspected she’d do something like this.”Micheal continued.“That fast?” I asked“She wasn’t careful,” he replied “Desperate people always are.”He leaned forward, res

I froze, the smile on my face fading almost immediately, I squinted into the darkness trying to make out a face, my hands tightened around my bag strap. The street light flickered weakly, it wasn’t strong enough for me to actually see who it was.My first instinct was denial, it was probably a tree a pole or something, maybe I had thought wrong, maybe I was imaging things, it was probably my neighbor.I turned back to enter my gate but then I noticed the person had moved.Just slightly enough to convince me that it was a real person.A chill ran up my spine.“Hello” i called outNo responseI ran into my compound and the security men locked the gates, I wasn’t sure they had seen what I saw and I didn’t want to tell them so they don’t become paranoid. The next day i told Micheal what happenedWe were sitted in his office, the curtains drawn halfway, the morning light spilling across the desk.“You should have called me” he said when I finished, his voice calm but firm.” Or at least a

I got home later than I expected. Tired I got into bed almost immediately, the house felt too peaceful, I was finally free, I smiled knowing it was only a few weeks before trust groups finally collapsed. My phone buzzed once in my hand Micheal: “thanks for letting me take you out for dinner today.” A small smile tugged on my lips before I could stop it “ I should be thanking you, I had a great day, thanks for also standing up for me the way you did today” “ I didn’t mind, please don’t ever let them walk over you again, you no longer have any business with them, you should always Stand up for yourself at all times.” He replied. We ended the call a few minutes later and I got ready for bed. My phone buzzed, thinking it was probably Micheal again, I quickly took the call. Blake “ Clarissa.” His voice came through low and controlled, the kind he used when he think he still had control over me. “Where are you?” I almost laughed “At home,” I replied calmly “why?”

My dad walked into my office smirking“You’re not taking her anywhere without my permission” he said while letting out a small chuckleMicheal straightened instantly flickering into something almost boyish.“I’m so sorry sir, he said sincerely “please can I have your permission to take your daughter outMy father laughed, a deep, amused sound, and walked further “Permission?” He repeated. “Son you look like you’re about to negotiate a deal, not ask a woman to dinner”I rolled my eyes. “Dad….He raised a hand cutting me off, eyes still fixed on micheal. Relax, Clarissa. I like this one already.”“Dad we aren’t going on a date, we’re just going to have dinner, we’re just friends.” I tried so hard to defend myself but it was in vain.Micheal glanced at me briefly, smirking before turned back to my father.“I’ve heard a lot about you, Mr thornfield,” My father continued “ Most of it good. The rest…. Impressive.”Only good things about you as well, sir,”Micheal replied. “Your daughter is…
