LOGINThe next week i was at trust groups for a very important meeting, one I wouldn’t miss for the world.
I arrived early, set up everything for the meeting before everyone arrived, I was so super excited for this Blake walked in, while I was setting up the paperworks. “Clarissa you’ve been avoiding me, I wonder how long you’d be able to keep the up, anyway I don’t want to get upset, today I’ll be having one of the most important meetings of my life and I don’t need anyone to ruin it for me, not even you.” He said while taking his usual position at the head of the table I simply smiled “ I promise I’ll make it up to you” “Thats none of my business anyone, just don’t mess this up for me” Monique walked in and sat beside him as usual, soon the whole board member walked in and took their respective seats About 15 minutes and a few discussions later, the representatives from the new company arrived. And soon the presentation started They proposed the biggest deal Blake had ever had in his life and they showed evidence, every document was intact, They called numbers, new markets, figures that made the room go silent, our company had never seen such amount of money since we started. Blake looked so convinced, he looked so happy like he had finally been rewarded for his hard work “This is bold, “Blake said, smiling “ very bold” The representative nodded “ it is. But only if the investment is strong.” “How strong?” Blake asked The representative named the amount and the whole room shifted, some board member exchanged looks, others frowned. Blake looked drowned in thought. “Oh well we know what we bring to the table and we know how many other companies want this offer but we chose you because see your potential.”one of the representatives said “ but if you’re not ready, we would have to give it away” another said while packing up thier documents to leave “Please give us some time to think about this”Blake pleaded. “ just two days and the deal is off” with that they walked out of the office. I had never seen Blake look so terrified, Monique tried her best in comforting him but it wasn’t working. I just sat looking at the drama unfold “It’s doable” i finally said Blake turned to me “ doable how?, where do you expect us to get such huge amount of money?” “Sell the shares, I’ll gladly volunteer mine, I mean when the profit comes we would all benefit” I leaned and watched them rack thier brains some more. Blake stared at me for a minute “that’s a good idea, I mean we would all reap the benefit when it comes and I would increase all your shares” he said looking at his board members. Slowly but reluctantly everyone started giving up thier shares Once everyone’s shares was summed up and the company funds added, the money was still short about 10 million dollars. Blake looked so frustrated, I almost felt sorry for him. “Blake would you mind seeing me in my office for a few minutes” I said with a very convincing sympathetic face. Monique looked at me so fast with a look that questioned what I just said. I ignored her and walked towards the door “And alone” i said before leaving closing the door. About 10 minutes later, Blake walked into my office “ I know you want me Clarissa, but isn’t this the wrong time and place to bring this up, I can’t deal with you right now, we would handle this once I get that deal.” There’s that silly ego of his, I felt like throwing up “That’s not why I called you here Blake, I was just thinking. “How about we get a huge loan from the bank, to cover up.” I said while looking at him with the softest eyes i could come up with “ that’s good idea but there’s one problem, what do we use as collateral.” He said still looking downcast “Oh come on, we have two properties we can use as collateral, our house, and this office building alongside both our cars, we can use, we know what we stand to gain, so I’m pretty sure we would buy something bigger once the profits starts coming in” I paused a little “I mean we are doing this for our future, I mean we can even get a bigger building, more bigger than the thornfield company, and also I’ll consider giving Monique this office, I prefer the small one anyone, dont like too much air” More silence but I could see his ego rising “ I think you’re right, let’s do this, I’m never gonna let my competitor take this deal, get all the documents ready, I’m calling the bank now.” He stormed out of the office. I let out a small wicked smile They don’t call me ms hart for nothing After getting everything ready, I walked towards his office, Monique caught up just before I got to his office door “I heard you’ll giving up your office, once the deal is up, I’m glad you’ve finally realized your place in this office, don’t go back on your promise” She said and walked away, swaying her hips in a provocative manner as she walked. “Such a fool”, I said quietly as I walked into Blake’s office to hand him the documents Before evening that day, the deal was signed, everything we owned already being used as collateral, we basically owned nothing or might I say. Blake had nothing. I got home late, extremely tired from running both companies but happy nevertheless. I settled in for the night about to doze off. My phone vibrated Unknown number but I already knew who it it was I answered without saying speaking “ I’m making progress,” the person on the other end said “ I’ve compiled, fake records, shady transfers, a hidden child, and so much more My grip tightened on my phone. “How deep?” “Deep enough to ruin her and Blake if it come’s out.” “Keep going, I want everything” I ended the call and looked out the window I remembered how suffered so much in the hands of my husband and his “secretary”, how I begged for my life and my unborn child. How I was starved and tortured till I was finally stabbed to death. I will make sure they bleed, till they beg for death I picked up my phone and called Micheal, after a few rings he picked. “It’s time” i saidMy phone was ringing nonstop by the time I got to my car, I sat down for a while but didn’t start the engine, my heart was pounding, I had ignored Monique’s threat and sent the files, I wondered how she would react to it.Few minutes later i was walking into Michael’s office,I had started going there more often since we were becoming more fond of each other. The lobby was buzzing with people, people rushing past with coffee cups, files tucked under thier arms, voices low busy, a few glanced at me and offered greetings.I took the elevator up to Michael’s office, when the elevator door closed only then did I let out a breath I had unknowingly been holding. He was standing by the door by the time I arrivedAnd as soon as I walked in the door, he hugged me, it was a long hug, neither of us wanted to let go“You’ve done amazing, hopefully this is all over” he said while patting my back.I let a small tears fall down my cheeks, it’s been so hard staying this strong but I was glad I had gott
Blake didn’t scream. That was the strange partHe just stood there, frozen in the middle of the living room, staring at the blank laptop screen like it had personally betrayed him. The city lights outside his window blinked calmly.A scam. The word echoed in his heart slow and heavy“No,” he muttered “No this does not make sense.”He refreshed the page again and again. Different platforms different logins. Same results.“This website does not exist”.His fingers trembled with panic, fear.He grabbed his phone and dialed the number the representatives had given him during the negotiations, all went straight to voicemail. He called, every and anyone he could think of, all to no avail.Blake’s breathing got slower, the deal was supposed to change everything, he had already spent the money in his head, new office, new car, new home, press interviews, the kind of fame that sets him far ahead of his competitors. He had pushed the board hard, pressured them, mocked the few who hesitated and e
Micheal didn’t explain the plan immediately instead he stood up, took a walk around my bedroom, seemingly admiring the curtains, checking the windows, quietly opening the door and closing it back. Before finally sitting across me.“Panic is exactly what Monique wants, if you panic, you’ll probably make mistakes and she’s counting on that.”“I’m not panicking,” i lied, folding my eyes tightly around myself. He raised an eyebrow. “Your hands are shaking.”I exhaled and let them drop to my lap.”Fine, I’m angry. and scared. And furious that she thinks she can corner me like this.”Micheal nodded, unbothered. “Good.Anger sharpens the mind.He pulled out his phone and sent a quick message.“I’ve looped on the investigator, he was a bit sloppy to let her find out he was tailing her, but he promised to fix everything.”“He also suspected she’d do something like this.”Micheal continued.“That fast?” I asked“She wasn’t careful,” he replied “Desperate people always are.”He leaned forward, res
I froze, the smile on my face fading almost immediately, I squinted into the darkness trying to make out a face, my hands tightened around my bag strap. The street light flickered weakly, it wasn’t strong enough for me to actually see who it was.My first instinct was denial, it was probably a tree a pole or something, maybe I had thought wrong, maybe I was imaging things, it was probably my neighbor.I turned back to enter my gate but then I noticed the person had moved.Just slightly enough to convince me that it was a real person.A chill ran up my spine.“Hello” i called outNo responseI ran into my compound and the security men locked the gates, I wasn’t sure they had seen what I saw and I didn’t want to tell them so they don’t become paranoid. The next day i told Micheal what happenedWe were sitted in his office, the curtains drawn halfway, the morning light spilling across the desk.“You should have called me” he said when I finished, his voice calm but firm.” Or at least a
I got home later than I expected. Tired I got into bed almost immediately, the house felt too peaceful, I was finally free, I smiled knowing it was only a few weeks before trust groups finally collapsed. My phone buzzed once in my hand Micheal: “thanks for letting me take you out for dinner today.” A small smile tugged on my lips before I could stop it “ I should be thanking you, I had a great day, thanks for also standing up for me the way you did today” “ I didn’t mind, please don’t ever let them walk over you again, you no longer have any business with them, you should always Stand up for yourself at all times.” He replied. We ended the call a few minutes later and I got ready for bed. My phone buzzed, thinking it was probably Micheal again, I quickly took the call. Blake “ Clarissa.” His voice came through low and controlled, the kind he used when he think he still had control over me. “Where are you?” I almost laughed “At home,” I replied calmly “why?”
My dad walked into my office smirking“You’re not taking her anywhere without my permission” he said while letting out a small chuckleMicheal straightened instantly flickering into something almost boyish.“I’m so sorry sir, he said sincerely “please can I have your permission to take your daughter outMy father laughed, a deep, amused sound, and walked further “Permission?” He repeated. “Son you look like you’re about to negotiate a deal, not ask a woman to dinner”I rolled my eyes. “Dad….He raised a hand cutting me off, eyes still fixed on micheal. Relax, Clarissa. I like this one already.”“Dad we aren’t going on a date, we’re just going to have dinner, we’re just friends.” I tried so hard to defend myself but it was in vain.Micheal glanced at me briefly, smirking before turned back to my father.“I’ve heard a lot about you, Mr thornfield,” My father continued “ Most of it good. The rest…. Impressive.”Only good things about you as well, sir,”Micheal replied. “Your daughter is…
