Chapter 18
Gretchen
When Brick came back from the track after watching Speed’s time trial he pulled me aside. I admit I was curious as to how it went but could find a good enough reason to go. I knew she had a lot of people there to get prepared for race day and I didn’t want to get in the way since I had nothing to contribute. So I worked around the clubhouse to keep myself busy and my mind occupied. So when Brick came back I was relieved wanting to know what happened. Brick pulled me into the playroom and sat me down.
Brick paced for a minute before I couldn’t stand it anymore. “ Brick, will you stop and tell me what happened? Is Speed ok?’ Did something happen?” I know I was spouting questions rapidly but he was making me nervous. “ No Speed is fine. Hell, she is more than fine. You should have seen her. It was amazing and scary

Ratchet After talking with Gretchen last night I decided to take her advice and talk to Brick. I have eyes and I’m not stupid I know something is going on with the three of them. I just don’t know what. I respect Gretchen for only telling me her part in all this. She is right it isn’t her place to speak for Brick or Speed. I also know that my sister isn’t ready for me to know anything yet or she would have something already. I feel like she is battling with herself. I can see it with the way she tries to push Gretchen and Brick away. But I’m happy to see that Gretchen isn’t letting her do it. And when Gretchen asked how I felt about Brick and her pursuing Speed it felt good that she wanted my opinion and I got the feeling she was also looking for my acceptance about the situation. All I want is for my sister to be happy the way she deserves. I don’t care how or with whom it happens.

BrickAfter talking to Ratchet I knew I needed to know more. Ratchet didn’t have the answers I needed so I’m going to have to talk to Merigold. Ratchet I felt better after my talk with Brick. I didn’t get all the answers I wanted but between Gretchen and Brick, I have a pretty good idea about what is going on. Both Brick and Gretchen want a relationship with my sister. And they are working together to win Speed over. I’m not clear on how it works but I don’t need to. The thing that I was worried about was cleared up by talking to them. They have no intention of hurting my sister. Anything else is not my concern. They can figure it out amongst themselves. Gretchen I was woken up by a clicking noise. I opened my eyes and saw Ratchet standing in front of me with his phone in his hand. He must have taken a picture of us. I took a second to survey my surroundings and noticed I was on the couch in Speed’s living room. Her feet were laying across my lap. I looked over and saw Brick on the other end of the couch sleeping with Speed’s head in his lap. The last thing I remember is Speed laying down on us while we watched a movie. We must have fallen asleep waiting for Ratchet to get home. “ What time is it?” I ask Ratchet. He turned his phone around for me to see it was eight-thirty in the morning. BrickI just knocked on the door at Merigold’s house. Gretchen and I are here hoping to get some answers that may help us figure Speed out. I can tell she is hiding so much pain behind her eyes. Speed The day after Ratchet's date Brick and Gretchen disappeared. I didn’t see them for two days. I thought they finally got the hint and decided to leave me alone. Or they had figured out that I wasn’t worth the trouble because nothing could come from trying to have a relationship with me because it wasn’t going to happen. Whatever the reason they stopped coming by, I was glad. At least that was what my head said. My heart was a completely different story. Brick Since Speed has a race in four days Viper called a meeting for us to go over a few things at the track and here at the clubhouse. Viper wants to have a party after the race to congratulate Speed no matter how she places and it turns out Casper and a few of his members are going to be in town. Viper invited them to come to the race and even secured tickets for them which I’m surprised and happy to say are almost sold out. At least twenty were taken by our crew and the auto shop. Thor and Merigold are going to close the shop for the day so everyone can be at Speed’s race. The rest is because the manager Jason has been doing some serious advertising about Speed being in this week’s race.
