~Ethan.
I dragged my eyes lazily between the two girls dancing before me. It was an eyesore, their presence, and actions, yet I kept my eyes fixed on them to remind myself that I wasn’t who they said I was.
I was Ethan Balor, the Alpha king of Sturgeon Moon pack, the one who has imprinted fear and respect in the hearts of all other packs, the king who has elevated his pack to the second richest and most resourceful pack in the whole werewolf kingdom, I was Ethan, I wasn’t less of a man, right?
Right?
Adjusting myself on the couch, I signaled with my index finger to one of the girls, she was pale skinned with a dark long hair that dropped to her waist. With a wide grin, she cat-walked to me, her boobs bouncing in her loose bra.
“At your service, my lord,” she whispered into my ear, slowly running her hands up and down my chest. Her fingers against my skin burned, like my body was being destroyed by some toxic chemical. I wanted to push her away and find my way back to the solace of my chambers, but I couldn’t, I needed a reminder that I was better than whom they said I was, than who Isadora said I was.
I told myself, after Isadora toyed with my feelings, that I wasn’t going to reduce myself to the level she had mentally placed me, but I couldn’t keep to the promise, presently I needed a reminder or rather, a validation that I am and has always been a man.
“Kneel.” The lady dropped herself in between my legs as the command left my lips. “The better I feel, the higher you earn.” she nodded. I threw my head back and spread my legs apart to give her more space.
A knock came on the door, overshadowing the unbuckling sound of my belt and almost immediately, the door pushed open.
“Forgive me for bothering you, My Lord,” A feeling of relief washed over me at the sound of the familiar voice. Perhaps, I needed no validation, perhaps all I needed was to be with the right people.
“Would you now state your needs, or would you rather I dragged the words out of your mouth?”
“I didn't mean to bother you, but, I came to inform you that the doctor has arrived.” I gripped the lady's hands to stop her from touching me any further, “Leave. Don't worry about your pay,” I added, seeing she was trying to protest.
“But you may also be informed that there is a little bit of a problem” I paused, waiting to hear more, but Sam wasn't giving it.
“For heaven sakes, Sam, spit it out,” I snapped as I stood up the way out of the room, leaving Sam to follow behind.
“The doctor is a mother and her child was taken alongside her.”
I paused in my tracks and turned sharply to Sam, “what do you mean by that? Whatever am I supposed to do with a child?”
“We had no choice but to take too, we couldn't leave it back.”
“You brought me kids, goodness!”
Sam gulped, “one child,” he muttered, and I sighed and headed for the dungeon -where I had informed them to keep her- to meet the lady who had dared to go against me while swearing under my breath to make her regret wasting my time.
A blanket of unease and restlessness covered me as we neared the dungeon, I felt beads of sweat forming on my forehead with some rolling down the sides of my face as Leo, turned and howled restlessly inside me.
My breath turned fast and heavy as though I had taken a thousand laps round the pack, and I paused in my track to catch my breath.
"Are you alright, my Lord?” Sam asked, and I nodded as I continued on my path, but, Leo's restless jumping inside of me told me that I was not in any way okay.
I wiped the beads of sweat off my face with the back of my palm before stepping into the dungeons, and a strong scent of magnolia and orange filled my nose, welcoming me in.
“You prepared this place for her,” I said matter-of-factly with furrowed brows, and Sam shook his head with even more furrowed brows.
“We didn't prepare any room for her,”
“Then what's this scent I perceive?” I asked, ignoring his statement. I didn't care about her comfort. I used to, though, I cared about her comfort before she decided to defy my orders and go against me.
“Scent,” Sam asked as he sniffled, drawing much air into his lungs, "the stench of blood?”
Which was what I was supposed to perceive. The dungeon was not a friendly, so why was I being fed a friendly scent?
“Something lemony,” I muttered. Leo howled as the words left my lips and as if drawn by a force, I advanced further into the dungeon, only stopping when I heard the angry grunts.
Leo jumped and howled as soon as stopped in front of the doctor who was kneeling with her hands bound behind her and a bag over her head but, her bondage didn't stop her as she tried to fight off the two men that were holding her down. 'Mate,' he howled
A little boy barely old enough to be left without his mother clung unto her, trying as hard as he could to keep his tears from escaping his eyes.
Mate? I asked rhetorically. What did Leo mean by that? And was she the reason he was being so jumpy?
'Mate.' Leo howled louder. A wave of thick cold air passed through me and I shivered as beads of sweat began to appear on my face and arms.
The irony. I was more than surprised by that.
“Take off the bag, now,” I said to one of the warriors with a snap of my finger, and they both let go of her and began untying her.
I wanted to see the woman who had this much effect on me, this much effect on Leo. I slapped away the hand losing the bag over her head and began untying it myself.
This was a matter of life and death, and any little delay could lead to my death.
Literally, I could die from my curiosity and the effect of Leo's over excitement.
I pulled off her head and dragged the other warrior with the flashlight closer, and my jaw dropped to the ground out of shock as the light fell on her face.
She was the doctor? How was she the doctor? Goodness! She was my mate, how was she my mate? And the child? She has a child! A thousand and one questions ran through my mind and sat at the tip of my tongue waiting to be poured out.
“Aurora?” I muttered. I had wanted to ask her all the questions going through my head, but, her name was the only thing I could say. The shock and surprise overwhelmed me.
“It's Rory now. And, when do I get to eat? It's past dinnertime, you know.” She blew away the hair that fell on her face.
Aurora, my Aurora, was the doctor and…my mate?
~Aurora. If Ethan's jaw hitting the ground gave him off as surprised, then color me shocked. The fact that he acted surprised about seeing me was shocking, if not infuriating. Did he not know I was the doctor or was just so good at lying and pretending? The letters I received had the royal seal, meaning that it was he who addressed the letters to Dr. Rory Aldrich. Dr. Rory Aldrich-me, or did he really not know I was the same person?I blew out the hair on my face to allow myself access to his face. His brows were knitted, and his sea blue eyes bore into me as though they were searching for something crucial, like they could see through my soul.“Is there a problem, Alpha?” A voice asked softly and cleared his throat, and Ethan took his sweet time to drag his eyes away from me and dropped them on Arne.“Did I say there was?” He said slowly as he ran his eyes from the crown of Arne's head to the sole of his feet. All my senses stood on high alert and I made to draw closer to block Eth
~Ethan.Admiration, pain, pride, and jealousy surged through me as I looked down at Aurora who was meticulously attending to the patients. She had been engrossed in taking care of the patients since we had them transferred to the royal infirmary.I found it difficult to believe that I was seeing her after many years, after ten years of her sudden disappearance, and she was back and better and… better, handling the patients like a professional. I mean, Aurora was now a professional doctor with a son!The small smile on my face fell as I shifted my eyes to the little boy by her side, his smile matched the one on Aurora's face, both their smiles big, bright and beautiful. Aurora was now bigger, brighter and more beautiful than she was ten years ago.Aurora cleared her throat, pulling me away from my thoughts as she came to stand in front of me, slowly slipping the gloves off her fingers. “I will do it. I will take care of the patients but,” she raised a finger, “not because you forced m
~Aurora. Not sooner had we settled in the room than morning came. We got settled a few hours earlier, and I was still trying to get another round of sleep when Arne stirred awake next to me.“You should get some more sleep,” I said as I planted a kiss on his temple.“Is this where we are going to live from now on?” He asked, paying no heed to my request.“No. No, we will be out of here as soon as possible. I just have to do a little job of taking care of some patients. Those patients we saw yesterday and just a little more, then we will be out of this place.”Arne pinned a look on me for a second before shifting his gaze to the ceiling. “Is he a good man? The man who took us, can we trust him?”“I…he, yeah…well. It will be best if you stayed out of his way.” I set my lips in a thin line and looked away as Arne turned back to me.“Why? Because he's not a good man?”No, because he is your father and he just may be out for your head. I bit back the sentence and swallowed it back with a sp
~Ethan.I rubbed against my temples as I listened to the nth complaint from the same person since the meeting began. We had gathered to discuss the health issue of our pack, and he chose to use the medium to talk about his farmland. I wasn't really concerned about his farmland, if pests were disturbing, him, then he should find a way to get rid of them without making it an issue, besides, he wasn't the only farmer in the pack.“...all I'm saying is that…"“Can I know the main reason for this early morning summon?” I asked, cutting him short.“The main reason, you say?” One of the elders, Lord Harrison, said, jumping to his feet. “Like you didn't hear or see rather what happened last night. Do you know how many lives that were at risk?”I corked my head to the side and raised a brow as I scanned him from head to toe. The brevity of this man, speaking to his Alpha with such disrespect. Some of the other elders who were wise enough to notice my stare tried to drag him back, but he stood
~Aurora.“Here she is, Dr. Rory Aldrich, the doctor we have all been waiting for.” Sam announced as we stepped into the room. The once rowdy room fell silent as I stepped into it. I had made sure to hold my head high as I walked behind Sam and into a room full of Sturgeon Moon pack elders; elders that never once cared about me.I had once dreamt of standing before them but, that was when I had believed I would be their queen and Luna, when I was being misled by Ethan's lies. After my flight from the pack, I swore to cut off Sturgeon Moon pack and everything that had to do with it, but alas, there I was standing before Ethan and his honorable wise men. With a big smile, I scanned the room and met their dumbfounded faces, and my heart swelled with joy. It was good as they learned that I didn't fail, I wasn't standing before them as their Luna but, I definitely was standing tall with a great significance.“Is this a joke? Are we jokes to you? Forgive my outburst, my Lord, but, what hogw
~Ethan. My cheeks hurt from grinning as I watched Aurora address the elders. Never had I imagined that Aurora, the Aurora I used to know, would ever have the courage to command such authority. Her voice was firm and bold, and the vibration of her voice forced the elders to lower their eyes from meeting hers. When she addressed Harvey, the man who called her an imposter, I almost melted in my seat from blushing. Seeing Aurora was amazing but seeing a bold, confident and outspoken Aurora was thrilling.Who or what made her strong? I bit my tongue as I realized the weight of my question. I wasn't the reason she was stronger, I had always been satisfied with her being on the sidelines, with her being a wallflower. What was I thinking?“... isn't that right, my king?” Her teasing voice came, distracting my line of thought and I blinked as I looked up at her to see a scowl plastered on her face. First was the mocking tone, then a scowl. All I've done was sit and listen to her speak, I have
~Aurora. After being informed by Sam to be available for the brunch by eleven am, I made my way back to my room to find Arne asleep and the trolley of food out of the room.Since the morning was still young, I decided to familiarize myself with my environment and to check if I still had a clear memory of how I knew the palace.Just as I was about to leave the room, a knock came on the door, and I opened it to reveal a young maid about Audrey's age.“Good morning ma'am,” the maid greeted with a smile, "I am Kelly, the nanny assigned to your son throughout your stay at the palace.”“Well, that was fast,” I muttered to myself as I stepped to the side to let her into the room. “ I am Dr. Ro... Aurora and my son is Arne, I would have introduced you but, he is fast asleep now.”“That is no problem, ma'am, I will do that myself when he wakes up.”“Well, I was about to go for a walk before you came. I will be back even before you notice I am gone.” She nodded, and I turned on my heels and left
~Ethan.I held my breath, half expecting Aurora to pass out when I saw her go pale the moment she walked into the dining room. I had instantly regretted ever persuading Aurora to join us for the brunch the second I heard mom's and Hadria -my younger sister's- plans. They had invited Isadora and Keenan for the brunch!I had no clue what made them come up with such thought and I had tried my possible best to make mom revoke her invitation, but Mom, as obstinate as she has always been, decided that she couldn't go back on her words, which brought me to then, in the same room with my ex best friend, ex-wife and her sister, my ex-girlfriend.“Aren't you just gorgeous?” Mom beamed as she walked over to Aurora and threw her arms around her neck, finally breaking the energy passing through Aurora and Isadora. I was no mind reader, but I was certain there was nothing good about that energy.“My, my, you look really fam... Aurora? Is it really you, Aurora?” Mom gasped as she took a step back to
