Layson’s low, cool voice came through the line, sending a subtle vibration straight to Adela’s eardrum.

“Having fun?”

It was probably Helen who reported to him. Adela wasn’t surprised at all that her boyfriend knew her every move.

She lowered her voice and replied, “It’s fine, just ran into a few annoying people.”

There was a few seconds of silence before he spoke again, tone as indifferent as ever.

“Pass the phone to Robbie.”

Adela blinked, stunned for a moment before she realized who he meant.

“You mean the guy with the duckbill cap?”

A low chuckle rumbled from the other end, making Adela’s lips puff slightly in protest.

“If it’s him, then okay, I’ll take it over.”

“Mm.”

She walked back and handed the phone to Robbie, whispering, “Layson wants to talk to you.”

Robbie raised his brow, surprised that Layson would personally reach out. He casually took the phone and answered.

Neither of them were chatty, so after a brief conversation, the phone was handed back.

Adela pressed it to her

Layson glanced at the little woman beside him, amusement in his eyes, but said nothing. These kinds of events were rarely his thing—unless they involved business.Back at the Norman estate, they saw Ralph sitting beside his grandfather. Before Adela could say anything, the little one came running over.“Mommy, can I come to your room tonight? We haven’t finished the puzzle from last time!”She thought for a moment before remembering the masterpiece puzzle they started last week.“Sure, we’ll finish it tonight.”Hearing that, Ralph grinned from ear to ear. He wanted to follow Adela upstairs, but then Richard called for him, and the boy instantly forgot his plans, scurrying back with his short legs.Adela watched Ralph’s tiny figure fade into the living room, not moving until Layson’s warm palm wrapped around her waist, gently guiding her upstairs to change clothes.“What is it?” he asked, thinking she might be tired after seeing her distracted. She shook her head. “It’s nothing. “The boss of Nightfall.”That identity stunned Adela, Cici, and Mia for quite a while. No wonder the security guards looked so troubled the first time Cici had asked them for help—turns out the man in front of them was their boss.Layson picked out a few dishes for Adela and gave her a glance, signaling her to eat quickly. Adela obediently picked up her chopsticks and began chewing absentmindedly. She handled the surprise better than Mia, who had forgotten to even move her utensils—just staring at Mr. Garcia in disbelief. She’d been to Nightfall so many times and had never once heard who the mysterious boss was. Rumors only said it was someone from the underworld, with a background so deep even the Walton family had to maintain good relations. That connection ensured Mia could come and go at Nightfall freely, never having to worry about being drugged or dragged off like other unfortunate socialites.Cici leaned in and whispered to Adela, “No wonder he gave us such a VIP card.”Adela n

Adela felt a little guilty and didn’t know how to reply to Evelyn’s message. She could only vaguely text back:“Yeah, that woman had it coming.”Evelyn was still typing, likely choosing her words carefully.“I heard from the girls at the fitting that it was a really beautiful woman. My first thought was you… Could it really be?”Adela chuckled. People often teased her as “the pretty girl,” and she’d never taken it seriously. But hearing Evelyn say it made her feel strange. In Adela’s eyes, Evelyn was the beautiful one, so being called that by her… her cheeks flushed a little.“Susan did mess with me,” she finally replied. “But I’ve taught her a lesson. Don’t worry. And don’t tell anyone else about it.”By “anyone else,” she meant Liam Walton. She really didn’t want to trouble him with this.Evelyn replied after a while with a simple:“Okay.”Just as Helen’s car pulled up to Nightfall, Barnes was already waiting at the entrance.Once everyone had gathered, Barnes didn’t bat an eye at t

Robbie pulled out his phone, made a call, and instructed his teammate to go get the girl from Bard. He then casually sat down next to Helen, asking with a relaxed tone, “Are those two really your friends?”He hadn’t seen their names in the intel he got.Adela pursed her lips and stayed silent. Robbie didn’t seem to be expecting an answer anyway. He just tilted his head back and looked toward Zach and Carl, who stood some distance away.Their eyes locked for a second—Zach was the first to offer a polite smile, like saying hello.Robbie knew who Zach was, though their teams had never raced. Zach kept a low profile and was more into his band.Robbie assumed the two men had tagged along with Mia, so he didn’t pay them much mind.He nodded to them in greeting and then turned his attention back to the track.Bard was chain-smoking, his face grim. The ambulance arrived quickly, and only after his injured teammates were loaded up did he turn and stare at Robbie. His eyes were bloodshot, the m

Robbie’s words left everyone speechless. The people around him looked at him with blank stares—did this guy have a screw loose?Bard sneered and said nothing more, simply signaled for his team to arrange the race.Adela turned to Robbie, asking with concern, “Will this get you into trouble?”He had just put his cap back on when he replied calmly, “It won’t. I don’t take him seriously. And by the way, I meant what I said earlier—if you ever need a bodyguard, I’d like to be your first pick.”Then he casually pulled out his phone and made a call.Adela stared blankly at his back and asked Helen in a low voice, “What did he mean by that? Is bodyguard just another word for 'hired muscle'?”Helen gave Robbie a fierce glare before turning to Adela with a serious tone, “Adela, that man’s trying to steal my job. You must firmly reject him!”Adela almost burst out laughing and quickly nodded. No way she’d switch—Helen was assigned by Layson himself. Not to mention, Helen could go shopping with
