LORAINE POV
I was sent inside the Alpha King’s base under the order of the Second Beta, who had used his connection to help me work as the Alpha King’s servant.
“This is your room.” The maid who was on the task of introducing me to my work, said with a cold tone as she pointed to the small dirty room that was meant for us servants.
I looked at her and smiled politely. “Thank you.”
She rolled her eyes at me. “I don’t know what you have done. A fallen enemy from another pack managed to live and, not only that, got the chance to work under the Alpha King. Truly lucky.”
I just gave her a smile and didn’t lightly bow at her as I turned my back and went inside to my supposed-to-be room.
As soon as I opened the room, I couldn’t help but cough when the dust had spread all over my body.
I looked inside and saw that it wasn’t as dirty as I imagined it to be, but rather it was just dusty. I took out a broom, a dust fan, cleaned clothes and a basin with water and started to clean my room so that I could take a rest while processing the deal I made with the Second Beta, Kavier.
After I cleaned up my room, I set aside the cleaning tools and directly lay on the bed.
Just when I was about to close my eyes and fall asleep, someone knocked at my window, making me frown, but I was too lazy to deal with it.
I ignored it and started closing my eyes, preparing to sleep, but then the knock on my window kept on bugging me and making it hard for me to sleep with such noise. I forcibly opened my eyes and looked at the window.
My eyes widened upon seeing a black crow.
I walked towards the window and happened to see the notes that were wrapped around the crow’s legs.
I reached it and took out the notes and watched as the crow flew away. I couldn’t be bothered by it and rather I was more curious about what was inside the note for it to send to me in the middle of the night.
‘Mission: Get close with the Alpha King. Failure: Death of yourself and your adoptive parents.’
After reading the notes, I could already tell who it came from. If he thinks that threatening me with the death of my parents would get me on his knees… well…
I know they betrayed me and if it wasn’t for Kavier, who killed those thugs, for sure I wouldn’t be alive right now.
Though I really hate it when he threatens me with this, I can’t complain about it.
I gritted my teeth and was about to throw the note when suddenly it was set on fire and become ashes.
“Don’t you dare to betray me, Loraine.”
I flinched when I heard Kavier’s voice. Suddenly, I felt a chain wrapped tightly around my chest, making it so hard for me to breathe, as there was a heavy feeling around my whole body as if it was being smashed with sharp nails, which made me fall onto the ground and winced from the pain.
“Agh…”
Sweat started to come from my body as I clenched my fist in the pain. I felt a liquid slowly dripping down from my nose onto the floor, staining it red as I lay on the ground panting heavily, groaning from the pain and desperately fighting the urge to scream from the pain.
It wasn’t until the pain suddenly stopped which made me relax a bit.
I heard Kavier’s voice again. I just realize that he was communicating with me through a mind link.
“That was only level one stage of the pain. If you dare to mess up, you should know the consequences.” He coldly added, “also, don’t think that I don’t know about your suicidal tendencies. I told you; I would keep you alive, use you, and torture you bit by bit until you finally learn to be obedient.”
I bit my lower lip and panted heavily as I closed my eyes tiredly. “Why are you doing this to me?”
“I told you; you are Princess Loraine Foxx. If you remember what has happened before, for sure, it would be you who would command us to kill the Alpha King. It will be you to use us as your sword and kill the Alpha King.”
I shook my head and endured the throbbing sensation in my head. “I told you; I don’t know what you’re talking about. I am not a princess. I am just a normal civilian who comes from a lowly bloodline.”
“Think what you would like to think. Remember the mission.” Kavier coldly said.
I let out a mocking laugh. “You think that the Alpha King is dumb to not realize your movements?”
Kavier chuckled and ignored my mocks. “I have planned this for a decade now. Do you think that I am too dumb to let him realize my plans?”
I gritted my teeth and dragged my body onto the wooden bed. “I hope your plan will fail.”
“If it fails, you too will also die and everyone that you associate with knows if the Alpha King heard about us, so you had better be careful.” After he said that, the mind link had been forcibly broken, making my brows furrow from the uncomfortable feeling.
I couldn’t help but grit my teeth and endure this. No matter what path I choose, it will only lead me to a dead end anyway.
Get close to the Alpha King? He thought highly of me. A mere commoner like me who comes from the Alpha King’s enemy would only end up either ignored or killed by him.
I shook my head and closed my eyes, ignoring the burning sensation on my back. Maybe it was because of tiredness that I became too numb to feel the burning sensation on my back and felt like there was a needle carving something into me, and directly drifted from consciousness.
When I woke up, I was startled when I saw that the servants were quite busy- or more like they were in a hurry and terrified of something.
“What happened?” I couldn’t help but ask the maid who was trembling right next to me.
The maid who was named Anna trembled even more. I thought that she wouldn’t say anything to me, but she told me about the incident and why it was quite chaotic early this morning.
“W-Well, the A-Alpha King had a mark on his chest.”
My brows furrowed. “And? What about it?”
Anna looked at me as if she was looking at a dumb person. “Didn’t your school teach you that once you had a mark on your body, it meant that the Moon Goddess had already found a mate for you?”
“Isn’t that a good thing?”
Anna trembled even more and covered her mouth with her palm. “The Alpha King doesn’t believe in such things as mates and being bound by the so-called ‘bond’ and ‘mark’! He is now trying to find his ‘mate’! Besides, his fiancée was also enraged and sent her servants to find that pitiful woman!”
My brows furrowed. “So, the Alpha King was enraged at the fact that his fiancée wasn’t his mate?”
Anna glared at me. “Why are you asking such nonsense questions? Of course, he was furious! Even if they were arranged to be married, they have a good relationship with each other!”
And how am I supposed to get close to the Alpha King if he already has a fiancée? Before I could even reach the Alpha King, I would already be beaten up by his fiancée!
I snapped back to reality as Anna tugged my hands. “Stop daydreaming and let’s help in finding that woman!”
I looked at her in confusion. “How are we going to do that?”
Anna squinted her eyes at me. She’s probably dissing me in her head already.
“Of course, what else? Examine all the women in this pack and see if they have the same mark as the Alpha King!” She rolled her eyes and dragged me to help with the inspection.
Looking at the scene, I couldn’t help but feel pity for that unlucky girl who happened to be the Alpha King’s mate.
Loraine's Pov“You're here.” I calmly said while looking in a certain direction. I chuckled and said with a tease. “I thought that you would only return once we announced my wedding with Aaron?”Kavier, who had now grown a beard and his features became even more prominent and matured, his wheat color made him look masculine, rolled his eyes and walked towards my direction, then sat down on the chair.“It's a bit shocking that your big dog isn't clinging to you?” Kavier sneered and added, “I've heard that ever since you woke up, he would always follow you and would bring you along wherever he goes?”I chuckled as I handed him the tea I had brewed. “Yeah, I was also taken back too, but I could guess that he was up to something behind my back.”Kavier rolled his eyes at me and took a sip of the tea. “Do you feel like you're being restrained by him? Especially that he is too protective and possessive when it comes to you? Who knows one day you will find it annoying. I would be delighted i
THIRD PERSON'S POVNow that the two kids know how to read the room, especially upon seeing their father's restless emotions towards their mother, as if he couldn't wait to talk to her, so after they expressed how they missed her very much and how much they loved her, they gave their parents a space to talk and be honest with each other.Loraine found himself sitting in Aaron's lap while he was facing her back to him. She watched as those arms wrapped tightly around her waist as he buried his face in her neck.“Are you fine now? There's really nothing going on with your body that you aren't telling me, hm?” He softly asked.Loraine smiled and shook her head as she leaned her body on him. “No, I'm really fine now. After those long “rests”, I am fully healed and, other than feeling numb and being uncomfortable walking or standing, nothing else hurts now.”Aaron pursed his lips and closed his eyes as he exhaled her scent as if he couldn't get over it. He held her tightly and was trying to
Loraine's PovAlthough I was hesitant at first, I nodded my head and let Aaron carry me, taking me to our home. I... I never imagined that I would have a child and those children are still alive despite the fact that the shaman had kicked my belly that time so hard, trying to kill my children.I thought that they were already... I shook my head and stopped thinking about those messy thoughts. What's important right now is that knowing that they are healthy, and although I gave birth to them through the cesarean method while I was in a coma, it was a good thing to know that I managed to bring them back alive.“What are you thinking?” He asked as he walked me down to our home, entering the newly built villa that he built for us.“You really didn't build this villa for your little mistress, right?” I jokingly asked while raising my brows, looking at him, who had a serious expression, but his aura was gentler.Although he looked fatigued and seemed to be lacking sleep, he was still vigoro
Loraine's PovI was woken up by the constant growl of my stomach and the quenching thirst of my throat. I slowly opened my eyes and couldn't help but frown as I squinted my eyes, slowly adjusting to the light that had hit my face.I glanced outside the window and saw that winter had already passed. Just how long did I remain unconscious?“Oh? You're finally awake.”I slowly move my head, which is stiff from probably lying on the bed in the same position. I don't know how long I was asleep, but I guess that it took long enough for my body to become rigid.“How long...” I paused and was taken back at how hoarse my voice was, as if its saliva had dried off.Nathan sighed and poured water into the glass, and then gave it to me.I took it and, without hesitation, I gulped the water down to its last drop, then handed it to him again.“More?”I nodded my head, and he gave me a bottle of water and I took it and drank it again until the bottle was empty before I sighed in relief.I looked at h
Third Person's PovThe doctor, Nathan, was about to pack himself to go back to his hometown, when the door of his room had burst out, making him panic as he looked in that direction. He thought that he was under-attacked by the enemies, but the person who had attacked his door was none other than the Alpha King.Yet, upon seeing the Alpha King's expression and the heavy aura around him, he felt that it would be better to be attacked by the enemies instead.“A-Alpha...”Before he could finish his words, his eyes happened to fall at the person that the Alpha King was gently carrying.Upon seeing those familiar faces, his eyes deepened as he became serious. He looked at the Alpha King with a frown.“What happened to her? How could she become like this?! Didn't you promise to protect her?!” Nathan's fear had vanished instantly upon seeing Loraine's condition. He couldn't help but glare at the Alpha King instead, and the Alpha King didn't get angry when he got scolded.Instead, he stood st
Third Person's PovBefore the shaman could get her chance to come back, Loraine, who saw through her petty tricks, sneered as she grabbed the shaman's neck using her hands, choking her tightly as if she would snap necks of hers.Loraine coldly gazed at her and sneered. “You're too weak. The thing that made you strong was only your manipulative tactics and those petty tricks of yours.”The shaman, with her face slowly turning purple, glared at her with a hateful gaze and, despite that she was having a hard time breathing, she spoke with the corner of her lips raised.“So what? I managed to kill your parents... besides... cough...” she couldn't finish her words when the moment she mentioned Loraine's parents, Loraine had tightened the grip around the shaman's neck, making the shaman's eyes redden as she turned purple.Yet, when Loraine was about to snap the shaman's neck, the shaman's hands were, in fact, holding something and when she pressed it, a white smoke appeared to jolt both of
