Lance’s POV…
After leaving Ruby's apartment, I drive back to the Lemon Bar. For the first time in my life, I am furious with Ruby.
She is just making a fuss out of nothing.
I can’t believe she lied about feeling uncomfortable just to make me go to her.
She did so because I didn’t talk to her properly on the phone.
Damn… Can’t she be more reasonable?
I was not able to talk to her at the time because my mom and grandma were at home. I can't always be available to her. She should be aware of it.
My frustration is growing.
'Women only know how to whine,' I mutter to myself.
Molly could have stopped me from going. She was clinging to me out of fear. When the light was restored, she resumed her bold demeanor and pretended as if nothing had happened. I wouldn't have left if she had said she wanted me to be with her. I would have come up with an excuse to turn Ruby down.
But no…
She asked me to leave. She has been displaying her bravery more frequently since her return. Molly is not the same person I knew three years ago. She is no longer submissive.
It is appealing and irritating at the same time. Right now, I don’t want to go back to her. That’s why I come back to my friend’s bar.
My friend, Jack, is a tease. I know he will not stop making fun of me, and I don’t care. I walked into the private room where I used to sit and ordered a drink.
After a while, Jack walks in, and I grimace as I notice the meaningful grin on his face. He is in a full-on mood to mock me.
"Hey, buddy. You are back again." He slaps me on the shoulder as he takes a seat next to me.
I sip my drink, not bothering to respond.
"I thought you left early to have fun with your wife," he scoffs. "But you came back."
His words only fueled my rage. I glare at him and warn him not to mess with me. But he laughs despite my warning.
"Buddy, you should talk to Molly. Sort out your problems. You will find a solution."
This is too much. I cannot take it anymore. I don’t need Jack’s advice to resolve issues between me and Molly.
"I went home to change my shirt," I deliberately lie. "Don't make any assumptions. Molly is the one who wants to divorce me. I'm just fulfilling her wish."
I act unconcerned as if nothing is bothering me.
"I see." He nods. "You made up your mind to end this marriage. Okay, what can I say if you both are happy with it?" He grins before saying the next words, "Well, I’d like to ask you something. Are you okay with someone dating her now that you have decided to leave her?"
His last sentence jolts my nerves. I gripped the glass tightly, wishing to smash it on top of his head. He dares to ask me to date, my wife.
I would have killed him if he had not been a friend.
"I am not okay. I will kill you if I see you around her." I slam the glass on the table and storm out.

The day of the party...
Molly’s POV…
Lance asked me to go shopping, which surprised me. I don’t need a dress, though. Besides, I didn't expect him to buy me a dress. I noticed his reluctance when mom asked him to take me shopping. I wanted to turn him down. Then I thought he was doing it to obey his mother.
My mother-in-law is special to me. I cannot upset her either. So, I decided to go with him.
After a half-hour drive, we arrive at a boutique.
The shopkeeper is a lovely young lady my age. She seems to be friendly. I immediately liked her cheerful appearance.
Many dresses are hanging on the hangers. All the dresses are elegant, with distinct designs. I like them all. Choosing one of these is difficult for me.
The shopkeeper assisted me in making my selection.
It's a backless white dress with a halter neckline.
"Try it. It will look good on you." She beams.
I try on the dress, which gives me a striking appearance. At the same time, it gracefully accentuates my curves. I like it and am thinking of purchasing it. But I forget that someone else is here who will decide which dress I should and should not wear.
Lance immediately asks me to change the dress.
"What? I like it."
"Don’t make me repeat myself," he warns me sternly.
The shopkeeper hands me another dress.
I am not at all happy. Yet, I enter the changing room to change my dress.
The dress leaves my shoulders uncovered. It is a snug fit and has a tube style. It is elegant and stylish.
I thought he would like it, but he just dismissively waved his hand.
Now, I am inside the changing room once again with a new dress in my hands. I look at myself in the mirror, my face flushed with rage.
Why is he making a fuss? Can't he just let me wear whatever I want?
I fume, but I slip into the pink gown I brought with me. I didn’t check the dress properly as it was going to be useless. After all, he is going to check it.
I walk out of the changing room.
The grimace on his face makes me sigh. He is going to reject it again.
"What? You don't like it either!" I snap.
He responds flatly with "No..."
I didn’t know that he was so picky. I feel sorry for the shopkeeper, who appears helpless.
I turn to face Lance and glower at him. "This is the last dress I'll try on. If you don’t like it, I will simply walk out."
I had no idea how loud I was until I noticed the other customers staring at me strangely. I self-consciously glance at them. This irritates me even more. I return to the changing room after casually selecting a dress.
"Why is he acting like this?" I mutter furiously. "He is simply annoying me, not helping me choose a dress."
I changed into the dress.
It is a sleeveless ball gown with long back zip. I try to zip up, but I'm not sure why I can't.
"What the hell? Why is not the zip working?" My fury intensified with my inability to zip it up.
I sigh and give up. I glance back at the door and call out to the shop owner. "Can you please come and help me?"
I unlock the door.
When I didn't hear back from her, I assumed she hadn't heard me.
I call out again, "Excuse me. The zip is stuck. Could you please help me?"
The door opens with a squeak. I was expecting the shopkeeper. But it is Lance who walks in.
I freeze and gape at his towering stature, which is oppressive inside this small room.
Lance’s POV…I stare at her, speechless, into her questioning eyes. She appears surprised to see me here. The shop owner has gone to deal with the other customer, leaving me with no choice but to come and assist her. Standing in front of her in this small room when her entire bare back is visible in the mirror, I don’t know how to control myself. She is too tempting to resist.‘Fuck, I want her so badly,’ I groan inwardly.I came to help her. But I keep staring at her, forgetting about helping her. My hands ache from the desire to touch, feel, and explore her.She looks damn beautiful in this ball gown. Thank goodness she didn't wear anything too revealing this time.I'm not picky about dresses. But what can I do? She looked so pretty and sexy in those dresses. I don’t want anyone to eye fuck her.She averts her gaze, the awkwardness is evident on her face. She scratches the back of her ear. "This is the ladies changing room. You shouldn’t be here."I can tell she is nervous. This is
Lance’s POV…‘Oh, man.’I swear I am losing control. How can I resist her when she is so alluring? Look at her eyes... beautiful amber eyes, which were drawing me in. With those enchanting eyes, she is staring at me.My heart is pounding in my chest. I want to keep her in my arms at all times. And those plump lips…‘Shit…’I was about to claim them, but that phone call.I clench my jaw.‘She is with me in this powder room,’ I whisper to myself. ‘No one is around. I still have a chance.’That’s it.I turn her towards me, looking intently into her eyes. I ran my knuckles down her cheek.Oh, she is blushing again. She tries to look away from me, and I hold her chin and make him look back at me.I open my mouth to express my desire."Lance, I think we should leave," she says before I can say anything.I swallow the words, not happy with the interruption. I quickly take a step back and tuck my hands into my pockets, my face solemn."Okay." That's what I say as I exit the powder room.I don
Mia’s POV…I am stunned by his outburst. It is embarrassing too.Jack looks pale. I feel sorry for him. Lance shouldn’t behave in this way. Is he forgetting how close Jack is to us?I break free from his arms and grumble, "This is too much, Lance. Jack is not only your friend, but also mine. You are overreacting."I am so furious that my entire body is shaking. Looking at his furious expression, I expect him to say something bad, but instead, he grabs my wrist and drags me along with him.He is acting as if he did not hear me."Lance…"He ignores my resistance and takes me into the ball.I freeze in the middle of several couples dancing to the beat of the music. In an instant, my mind goes blank, and I forget every dance step I have ever learned. While I'm still dazedly looking around, I hear him say, "Dance with me."He is not asking me, but commanding me.This further annoys me. He only knows how to put me under pressure. He never tries to understand how I feel."No…" I rebuke. He p
"Mm…" I groan and deepen the kiss.Time stopped when my lips met hers. I am not sure if my surroundings have frozen or if my mind is playing tricks on me. Every breath I take has jasmine and a fresh mint scent to it.My heart is hammering against my ribcage. I am no longer aware of the piercing gazes of the people around me. All my attention is on her lips, how soft they feel against my mouth, how sweet and addictive they are.She tastes so damn good. Her breathing is destabilizing, yet inviting. The heat from her stomach rises to my chest. My body is flooded with pressure aches. I want to consume her whole. She is trembling in my arms.It is only at this moment that I realize that she is uncomfortable. I catch a glimpse of everyone looking at us. It is indeed embarrassing.I stop kissing her and release her from my arms. Her face is bright red. Embarrassment and anger intermingle together. Like earlier, I could not stop looking at her. This time, I am not admiring her beauty. I am di
Lance’s POV…The phone continues to vibrate, and I am looking at her retreating form, forgetting about checking who is calling. She brought up the divorce once more. Ever since she had returned, she had been singing one song.‘Divorce, divorce, and divorce.’I am so mad."Damn it." I slammed my palm on the steering wheel. "Who the fuck is calling me?"I look at my phone. ‘It’s my grandma!’I am surprised, thinking why she is phoning me now. We just met, right? Is everything okay?As I answer the phone, a frown crosses my brow."Hello, Grandma.""Lance, have you reached safely?"I breathe a sigh of relief when I hear her cheerful voice. She may be calling to confirm whether or not we have arrived at the villa."Yes, grandma. I'll get back to you later. Goodnight."I hang up the phone quickly. I have an important matter to deal with right now. I jump out of the car and dash into the house, my mood stormy. This is going to be a crazy night. I cannot let her ignore me anymore. Enough alre
Molly’s POV…The next day, I went to meet Ruby at the café where she had asked to meet. When I walk into the café, I notice her sitting at the corner table. I take a deep breath and clutch my purse as I approach her, curious about what she wants to discuss with me.Ruby, as usual, flashes her fake smile when she lifts her head and looks in my direction."Molly, you have arrived. Please, take your seat." She motions to the chair across from her.I regard her skeptically as I sit down. Ruby didn't wear as much makeup as she had before. Her face is unusually white as if all of her blood has been drained from her body. But she appears to be in good health. It makes me suspect again if she is really suffering from cancer.I'm curious about what makeup she is wearing that has turned her face pale white."What do you want to have?" she asks."I don’t want anything. If you want, you can order."Ruby laughs slowly, pushing the menu towards me. "You should place the order today. Lance will be h
Molly’s POV…Lance's reaction was predictable. That was what he did every time.I don’t know why I feel compelled to explain myself to him. My heart aches as I stare at his stiff back."I didn’t push her," I finally say.He doesn’t turn back to me or try to know what actually happened. He just walks out, saying, "We will talk about it later."His cold response brings tears to my eyes. I stand there, speechless, watching him carry her out of the café.This scene is so familiar to me. He always chose Ruby and walked away from me. He never tried to find out my side of the story. His anger, suspicions, and accusations are too much for me to bear.My knees are getting weaker. I step back and sink into the chair. I don’t want to cry, I swear. This is nothing new to me. But I am not sure why I am sobbing this hard.Ruby is not worthy of my attention. And Lance doesn’t deserve my tears. Why am I crying so hard?I pour myself some water and drink it, my hand shaking.Ring-Ting-Ting…I set the
Molly’s POV…The Stevens couple always treats me very well, and Grandma adores me just like she adores Lance. When she requests me to spend the night here, I cannot turn her down.Lance's eyes show a hint of hesitation, but I ignore it. Maybe he is planning to go to Ruby. I don’t care anymore. I decided to stay here solely for Grandma's sake."I will stay here," I reassure her with a comforting smile. "Now, you should sleep. You have already exhausted yourself."Lance looks at me with wide eyes, as if he did not expect such a reaction from me.‘This is not for you, Lance. I will obey the elders of this family as long as I am in this marriage.’Grandma seems happy with my response. She, like an obedient child, closes her eyes to sleep.Lance left to attend to a phone call. But I stayed with her until she fell asleep. The housekeeper comes to call me for dinner. I follow him to the dining hall, where Lance and his parents await me.I give Mom and Dad a friendly smile as I take a seat ne
