“You're right,” I said with a smile and I saw Reuben’s face relax but I was not done talking, “I should cut off his head.”

I saw Arnold's face whiten at my suggestion. I had no intention of doing that but it was still satisfying to see that my words could fill him with fear.

“Shall we proceed to speak of something else? Or is my fertility the only issue that concerns the Council?”

My question was met with silence. I smiled—the meeting continued undisturbed.

Damien's POV

“Children, I want you to meet your new teacher,” the lady who had walked me into the classroom said in a cheery tone. I easily spotted Jeremy in the middle row, he was seated with a blond girl. I tried not to fixate my gaze on him as I did not want to spook him.

“You will address him as Professor Damien,” she said with a smile that did not quite reach her eyes.
