“Don’t shoot yet! We need to be sure who’s inside!”

Devandra’s voice cut sharply through the darkness of the underground hallway. The flashlight in his hand swept across the damp concrete walls. Behind him, Adrian and two other men nodded silently, raising their hands in a signal to hold fire.

“The target’s in the third room on the right. Two guards—one inside, one posted at the door. No visible firearms. But stay sharp,” Adrian whispered, relaying intel through the small earpiece clipped to his ear.

Devandra gave a quick nod. “We bring Tania out alive. We’re not leaving anyone in Revaldo’s hands.”

A few steps behind them, Vania stood dressed in a black hoodie and dark pants. Her face was pale but determined. Devandra glanced at her.

“You can still stay back, Van,” he said softly. “I won’t blame you.”

“I need to see her with my own eyes,” Vania replied firmly. “Tania… she’s the only one who stayed by my side when everything fell apart. I have to be there.”

Devandra looked at her for a

“I don’t understand… why are you being this nice to me?”Vania looked at the man in front of her, her voice soft but laced with suspicion. Her hands were still wrapped around the hot coffee she’d bought from a small café near the park. The man—whom she’d only met a few days ago in front of her family’s house—gave a faint smile.“Because you look like someone who needs a friend. And besides, not everyone has bad intentions, Vania.”Vania fell silent. His words hit something deep inside her. She had been betrayed too many times to trust so easily. Especially after Devandra and Karen… and the family who had cornered her instead of defending her.The man, who had introduced himself as Rafael, had warm eyes. Warm… but somehow also filled with mystery. Every time he spoke, there was a subtle hint that he knew more than he was letting on.“Thank you,” Vania finally replied, glancing away. “But I’d rather not drag anyone else into my business.”Rafael chuckled softly. “I’m not getting involve

“Are you all right, Miss?”The voice stopped Vania in her tracks on the front porch, just as she was about to walk away from the dinner table still echoing with insults. She turned. A man stood by the gate, leaning casually against a sleek black car with the door half open. He looked to be in his late thirties, dressed in a tailored suit, his smile warm—yet far too intense for someone she had just met.“Me?” Vania tried to keep her voice steady, though her heart still throbbed with anger and hurt. “I’m fine.”“You don’t look like it,” the man replied, stepping closer with measured, non-threatening strides. “Your face… it’s the face of someone whose heart has been broken more than once.”The words struck a nerve. Vania’s brows furrowed.“I don’t know you. So, excuse me… I have no reason to discuss my life with you.”The man only gave a small smile and extended his hand. “Adrian Valerio.”Vania didn’t take it right away. “Vania.”“A beautiful name,” Adrian said, studying her as if tryin

The clinking of spoons and forks against porcelain plates echoed again and again in the Luis family’s dining room. The crystal chandelier bathed the room in a warm glow, yet the atmosphere was cold—far too cold to be called a family dinner.Vania sat at the far end of the long table, trying to keep her face composed. The plate before her was barely touched. She stared at the cream soup cooling in front of her, but her mind was far away—still replaying the vicious argument she’d had with Devandra just hours earlier.“I heard from Livia…” Mrs. Rika’s voice cut through the silence. “You two fought again, didn’t you?”Vania lifted her head. “That’s a private matter, Ma.”Mrs. Rika leaned back in her chair, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Oh, of course. But you know, marriage isn’t just a private matter when your family has to bear the shame.”“There’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Vania replied softly, trying to keep her tone in check.“Nothing to be ashamed of?” Mrs. Rika’s voice rose h

The night air outside the Luis family’s grand mansion was biting cold. The porch light glowed brightly, reflecting off the white marble steps leading to the entrance. Vania stood there, clutching her small bag tightly, trying to convince herself that coming home was the best choice. After the explosive fight with Devandra, her mind was in chaos. She needed a safe place… or at least somewhere she could breathe without feeling suffocated. And her family home was the only place that came to mind. She took a long breath before knocking on the door.It didn’t take long for it to open. Livia—her stepsister—appeared in a luxurious silk house dress, her gaze sweeping up and down, assessing Vania like she was a cheap item in an expensive store.“Oh… so you still remember the way home,” Livia said with a smirk.Vania held back a retort. “I… just want to rest here for a while.”Livia didn’t respond, only turning around and calling out, “Mom, look who’s here!” Her voice was intentionally loud, as

“I don’t want to hear any more excuses, Adrian!” Vania slapped away the man’s hand as he tried to stop her at the doorway of her best friend Nadia’s house. Her breath was still ragged, her face flushed with anger. “Do you think I’m blind? I saw her myself—walking out of that hotel with him.”Adrian took a deep breath, his eyes sharp with seriousness. “Vania, just listen to me first. You need to know everything before you make a decision you’ll regret.”Vania spun around, glaring at him with eyes full of fury. “What else do I need to know, huh? That Devandra hasn’t changed? That he’ll always hurt me?”“No.” Adrian’s voice was firm, though there was a faint tremor in it. “You need to know that this… is not what it looks like.”Vania narrowed her eyes, curiosity beginning to chip away at her anger. Adrian glanced around, making sure no one was listening, then pushed the door shut. He walked to the dining table and set down a thick folder.“Karen isn’t just his ex, Vania. She’s poison,” A

"I don’t want to talk about her anymore, Adrian!"Vania slammed the guest room door, but Adrian’s hand stopped it from closing."You think running away will solve anything?" Adrian’s voice rose, his eyes locked sharply on hers. "You walked out on him when he needed you the most!"Vania exhaled heavily. "He chose someone else, Adrian. I won’t be anyone’s second choice anymore. I’m done being played with."That night, Dina’s apartment—a safe refuge offered by her old college friend—felt like a sanctuary. The walls were painted a warm cream, the air scented faintly with vanilla candles. Dina had left Vania alone in the living room with Adrian, probably knowing the two of them needed to talk.Vania moved to the sofa, sat down, and hugged a pillow to her chest. "I want to start over. No Devandra, no Karen, no more pain."Adrian let out a long sigh, looking at her as if trying to see past the armor she’d built. "Vania… you have no idea what’s happening behind your back."Vania scoffed bitte
