Chapter 44

Shana sat up abruptly, the covers falling from her shoulders. Her face was grimaced in concentration, a frown creasing her forehead. She glanced at the clock on the nightstand, it was almost five in the morning. She looked at her husband, who was sleeping peacefully on the couch. The painkillers she had given him must have taken effect, she concluded. After taking one last glance at Dennis, she slipped out of the blanket, careful not to wake him and tip over.

When Shana stood in the kitchen, she started rummaging through her cupboards for some food. She found some cheese and crackers, poured some milk into a bowl, and then added two spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream, mixing them before filling the bowl. She then moved back into the balcony and carefully picked up Dennis' phone. She searched on the internet and scrolled through several sites until she came across an article she was interested in.
