Chaoter 5

Shana hadn't spoken a word since the incident. Shana has just returned from a night's walk. wanted to get some fresh air after the incident. On the way back to the apartment she meets Dennis. At first, Shana wanted to stay as far away from Dennis as possible but as the elevator doors closed she couldn't help herself. She looked at him and then back towards the ground, focusing on her own feet. She had never been good at dealing with awkward silences.

"You okay?" Dennis suddenly asked, breaking the silence.

Shana simply shrugged her shoulders. She thought it was better than letting the silence continue.

The elevator doors opened and they made their way toward the apartment. Once they were inside the apartment and had locked the front door behind them, Shana went straight to her room and closed the door behind her, not wanting to listen to Dennis' words any longer. She didn't know whether to cry or scream. Either way, neither option sounded appealing to her.

She threw the blanket on her bed and laid down facing the ceiling, sighing loudly. She was still sad but not as bad as before. She slowly wiped her tears away. Then she went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, fixed her hair a little bit, and then decided to take a nice hot shower. That seemed to help a little.

Once she was finished drying her hair, Shana put on some comfy clothes and crawled under the covers of her bed. She grabbed the blanket tightly and closed her eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.

The following morning when she woke up, she felt extremely tired which surprised her considering that she had fallen asleep pretty early last night. She decided to get some food and coffee from the kitchen.

She slowly walked down the stairs and opened the fridge. She noticed there is nothing on the fridge. So, she decided to have breakfast at a cafe near her apartment. After paying for the meal she sat at a table and waited patiently for her drink and plate to arrive.

It was almost 8:30 and Shana was waiting for 9 o clock when a familiar voice called out to her from a few tables away from hers "Shana?".

Shana jumped and turned her head in the direction where she heard the voice calling her name "Bethany?".

"Hey, how are you doing?". Asked Bethany as she sat next to Shana.

"Fine, thanks for asking", said Shana with a small smile.

" I heard, you are married... To my boy" continued Bethany while sipping her tea.

"... Yeah. How did you know that?". Shana questioned in confusion.

"My boyfriend told me last night.", answered Bethany, staring at Shana with a teasing smile.

Shana sighed

"Looked, this is not like you thought it is.."

"I know. You probably trapped Dennis to married with you right? You are a slut, you know?"

Bethany splashed water on Shana's face. Shana is very shocked by what Bethany did and Shana retaliates by splashing water on Bethany’s face. The two women are now soaking wet. A few minutes later, Dennis was seen running towards the two women.

"What do you think you're doing?" he was angry with Shana

"What did I do? Ask your girlfriend. She started it all" Shana snapped.

"Lie. Don't listen to her baby. You started it first." Bethany said angrily glaring at Shana.

"Oh, so I started it? Why don't you say it, bitch?"

"Why don't you stop acting crazy now! It doesn't make anything easier." Dennis yelled.

Both girls were now standing in the middle of the crowded restaurant, yelling at each other while everyone was staring at them and whispering.

Suddenly, Dennis pushed both of them away from each other roughly, making Shana fall to the floor, gasping for breath and coughing hard.

"How dare you!? Do you realize what this looks like!?" exclaimed Dennis in anger.

He turned towards Shana "You are a liar. You are just a slut. You ruined me. Now leave".

Shana stood up and prepared to leave the restaurant. There was no point in her trying to explain everything to Dennis because Dennis only believed in Bethany. All the people in the restaurant were whispering and glancing at them in fear. Bethany was looking at Dennis with wide eyes, her mouth opens slightly, but was silent.

After leaving the restaurant, Shana immediately drives to another part of town. Her mind kept going back to the situation between her, Bethany, and Dennis. Suddenly, her phone rang. Shana took the call without even looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?".

The person on the other side of the line was silent. It was the same man who contacted her last time but he didn't say anything yet. Shana waited nervously for his reply.

Finally, he spoke.

"Do you like Dennis?".

Shana smiled and responded.

"Maybe". She gave a vague answer.

The man chuckled in response. "Okay".

After that, he hung up again. Shana looked at the phone in disbelief.

What had just happened? Did he believe her lie? He had known about Dennis all along, didn't he? Maybe she shouldn't have said the truth. She knew how it would change everything. She should have kept quiet.

She drove with no direction, not knowing exactly where she was going. She just needed time to collect her thoughts.
