Vienna’s POV

I was still reeling from the birth. It had all happened so fast, like a dream I hadn’t quite caught up to. My body ached, but my heart was overflowing.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the tiny bundle curled against my chest.

He was perfect. His soft, warm skin. That impossibly delicate nose. Ten minuscule fingers that curled instinctively around mine. Ten tiny toes, pink and wiggling.

I kissed his downy head, inhaling his newborn scent. My son. I had a son.

Zanele looked dazed—almost in awe—and didn’t say a word for a long time. Then she finally whispered, "That… that was incredible, Vienna. He came so quickly. Like he knew this world was ready for him."

I gave her a grateful, exhausted smile. "I don’t even know how we made it to the hospital in time."

Zanele chuckled softly. "Barely did. But somehow, it all worked out just right."

Vienna’s POV"Oh god." The words escaped my lips without thinking. "Oh god, oh god." My voice cracked. I took a step back toward the door, then another."Vienna, wait—" Raphaël stepped forward, guilt plastered across his face. "Please don’t go. Let me explain."I flinched as he came closer. He smelled like sweat and sex and regret."Don’t," I whispered, clutching Oliver protectively. "Don’t come near me. This was a mistake.""You look tired, honey," Élise said, tilting her head. "Motherhood not quite the fairytale?"I turned and bolted down the stairs, heart pounding, throat tight. Hot tears stung my eyes. Behind me, I heard Raphaël calling my name, but I didn’t look back.Oliver stirred, then let out a high, distressed cry. His little fists beat softly against my chest, and I shushed him, rocking him gently as I kept walking."It’s okay, baby," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Mama’s here. Mama’s got you."I stepped out onto the street. Where the hell was I supposed to go now?!"Vienn

Vienna’s POVThere was a soft knock on the door."Vienna?" Fred’s voice came through, tentative and gentle. "Can I come in?"I sniffled and wiped the tears from my cheeks, forcing myself to breathe evenly. "Sure," I managed. The door creaked open, and Fred stepped inside quietly, closing it behind him. He glanced at me, then at the crib where Oliver lay sleeping peacefully. He crouched beside me. "Oh, Vienna," he whispered, his voice full of awe. "He’s perfect. My precious little nephew."I sighed. "Sorry for all the drama, brother. Not exactly the celebration I had planned."Fred sat down beside me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "You don’t have to apologize for anything. Do you want to talk about it?""What’s there to say?" I muttered. "Célestine is my mother. My mother, Fred. And she knew the whole time. She looked me in the eye for months and didn’t say a damn word."Fred nodded slowly, his expression unreadable. "Yeah… that’s a lot, V. You must be completely overwhelmed."

Vienna’s POV"I—I… The moment I saw your face… I had a strong feeling it might be you," Célestine confessed, her voice barely more than a whisper.I stared at her, stunned. "And you didn’t say anything?!" My voice cracked with disbelief and betrayal."I just… I was nervous you would—""What?" I snapped. "Be angry that you abandoned me?" I crossed my arms, holding myself together by a thread."Well… yes," she said softly, her eyes already brimming with tears.I let out a cold, bitter laugh. "Did you really think keeping it a secret and pretending you were just some random stranger would be a better idea?""I… I thought I could just be there for you," she said helplessly. "That maybe it was enough to love you from close by. Without—""Without ever owning up to what you did?" I cut in. "Without telling me the truth about who I am?""I didn’t know how," she murmured. "How do you even begin to say something like that?"I took a step closer. "How about with: ‘Hi Vienna, I’m the woman who gav

Vienna’s POVAfter spending a few days in the hospital, I finally came home with little Oliver nestled in my arms. Célestine was radiant with joy, practically dancing around the house at the presence of a baby under her roof. "The sweetest blessing," she kept calling him, her eyes misting over every time she peeked into his crib.I spent most of my days in bed, wrapped in layers of soft blankets, recovering with Oliver curled against my chest. Célestine brought me everything I needed—warm meals, herbal teas, fresh juices, gentle hands, and quiet encouragement. She mothered me while I mothered him.Zanele dropped by every single day, always with a grin, arms full of notebooks, assignments, and the latest gossip from school."You didn’t miss much," she always said, then proceed to tell me everything. Her visits became a lifeline, a little bridge to the outside world while I floated in this strange, vulnerable cocoon of early motherhood. The days melted into each other—cloud nine highs

Warren’s POV"Everything is looking good, Warren," Dr. Smith said, glancing over my most recent scans with a satisfied nod. "Your heart’s strong, the rhythm is steady, and your vitals are back in range. You can start incorporating some very light exercise again. Short walks, nothing strenuous."I exhaled a slow breath of relief. "Thanks, Doctor," I said, managing a wry smile. "Glad I made it into the new year alive after all."Dr. Smith chuckled and patted my shoulder with warmth. "Me too, Warren. You gave us quite the scare. But you fought hard. Now take it one day at a time.""I will," I promised. As I stepped out of the hospital and into the late winter air, it felt like I was breathing freely for the first time in weeks. I tugged my coat tighter around my frame, aware of how loose it had gotten. Six weeks of barely moving, of watching my body grow weaker and thinner while I lay there, recovering, helpless.I couldn’t do anything. No jogging, no work, no Paris. No Vienna.Desiree
