Chapter 3

Author: Sweet Stick
Danielle's eyes sparkled after I spoke. She said hurriedly, "I've got time. How could I be absent for such an important occasion? It's Mason's parent-teacher conference! After all, Griselda won't be able to go tomorrow. I'll be free. Don't worry, Mrs. Campbell. I'll be on my best behavior!"

Her helpless demeanor disappeared. Excitement took over.

"Daisy, where would we find a family of such excellent helpers apart from Ms. Jackson and her daughter? We've got to cherish them."

Zachary slung an arm around my shoulders as he spoke, peering lovingly into my eyes.

I nodded politely.

Danielle dressed herself in her best attire the next morning and dragged Mason out the door. However, he groaned when she touched his arm.

"Ms. Danielle, you're hurting me!"

Danielle's expression changed. She asked anxiously, "Mason, what's wrong? Let me take a look!"

She yanked his sleeves up and saw a faint bruise on his arm. As though she'd unearthed a scandalous secret, she shrieked, "Oh dear! Mrs. Campbell, how could you lay such a heavy hand on Mason?"

Danielle brought his arm to her lips and blew gently on it while comforting him.

I couldn't bear to watch her make a fuss out of nothing, so I interjected, "His wound is so insignificant you'd need a magnifying glass to see it. Stop overreacting. Just because you beat your kid up every day doesn't mean I'll do the same to mine."

The more impassive I was, the worse Danielle felt for him.

"Mrs. Campbell, you can't disregard Mason's feelings just because you spent little time with him growing up! How could Griselda's worthless life be measured against Mason's? After all, he's been treasured as the only heir to the Campbell family."

Mason couldn't stand it. Then, he queried, "It's your fault. If you hadn't beaten up Griselda yesterday, I wouldn't have fallen, would I?"

Danielle's tactical mention of Griselda triggered Mason's unhappiness.

"Mom, you should send Griselda away since she's so disobedient. Otherwise, our home will always be in a state of permanent chaos. It sours my mood!"

Mason hugged my leg as he spoke. Despite his young age, he'd already begun making statements that were downright evil.

I said nothing, but Danielle agreed with him.

"Alright, alright. Mason, it was my fault. I'll never allow Griselda to show up in front of you ever again. I'll get rid of everything you dislike. Let's head to school first!"

As I watched the two of them head off, I knew that everything was playing out as I desired.

Polly resigned, saying that she wanted to return home and retire. Peace returned to our house, as Griselda never came home after her trip to the hospital.

It looked like Polly had taken her away.

At eighteen, Mason was offered a place in a prestigious foreign university. Zachary suggested throwing him a huge party and intended to transfer a portion of shares of the Campbell Corporation to him.

As Mason signed the shares transfer contract, a woman's hoarse voice interrupted his glee.

"My darling grandson, it's my fault for only recognizing you now!"

All of Zachary's relatives and business partners were confused.

"Aren't Mrs. Campbell's parents both abroad? Even if they had returned, they probably wouldn't look so sleazy, would they?"

"Look at the drooling kid beside her. She looks about the same age as Mason."

"Has this woman gotten dementia and recognized the wrong person?"

Everyone didn't know her. However, Zachary, Mason, and I knew her well. It was Polly.

Before the guards arrived, Polly pulled out a DNA report.

"This explains it. Griselda has never gotten along with me and my daughter. She has caused nothing but trouble for us. Turns out, we're not related at all. She's not my daughter. Why would she have a great relationship with us?"

"Mrs. Campbell, you and Danielle were the only ones who'd given birth in that hospital back then. The doctors definitely mixed up the babies.

"My apologies for allowing Sonny to enjoy life with you guys for so many years. I knew nothing about this back then. Now that I'm aware of the truth, it's time to swap the kids back into their rightful places."

The word 'azoospermia' seemed to have burned Zachary's eyes, humiliating him to no end.Everyone knew what this diagnosis meant—there was no sperm when he ejaculated. Zachary knew I wouldn't forge a document, so the truth was evident.Mason wasn't his son and he would never have a child of his own. Danielle had lied to him. Zachary was livid. He strode toward her and slapped Danielle. By the time the police arrived, her face was swollen. "Bitch! You're a shameless bitch! You've fooled me! Daisy and I were married, but we failed to get pregnant. You were the one who told me you were pregnant all of a sudden. You even claimed that you didn't want her to deliver my child. You bloody proposed that horrible idea! If it hadn't been for you, would I have needed to resort to such tactics? You fucking bitch! You've ruined my life."He ranted as he struggled against the police, trying to land another hit. Danielle wailed till her eyes swelled up. Due to the chaos of the situation, t

"I'm telling all of you now. When I realized that Mason wasn't my child, I did a DNA test with Griselda as well. The results astounded me as she isn't related to me either."However, I know I've never cheated on Zachary before. Thus, I did a DNA test for Zachary and Griselda as well. The results were the same. "Here's the problem. Why was I pregnant with a child I wasn't related to? This was why I had to lay in wait. I needed to confirm what was going on."Everyone knows that Zachary doesn't love me. It's understandable that he wouldn't allow me to get pregnant with his child. So, why did I get pregnant? As I spoke, I strode toward Zachary. Under my threatening glare, he backed away from me. "Mr. Campbell, can you answer the question?" His lips trembled. Zachary said nothing. "It looks like Mr. Campbell is feeling unwell. I'll answer the question for him, then. Because he did not love me, he implanted a fetus within me. Perhaps it was because the love of his life was alread

"Stop talking as though you sacrificed everything for me. You did everything willingly. Let me be honest with you. If not for the betrothal gift I was promised, I would not have married you! "You're the type of person I loathe the most—spoiled, rich girls who grew up pampered. You were meant to suffer under my hand. “You should've told me that you found out about my affair. Danielle and I wouldn't have had to keep things on the down low for such a long time. How could you be so unthoughtful?" The beginning of our relationship bloomed from his class feud. Our two decades together were a huge joke. "You've never really loved me. Is that what you're saying?" Perhaps I didn't want to admit I'd loved a horrible man. Thus, I asked the question that plagued me. From my wounded look, Zachary thought that I was trying to win him back. He cackled. "Dumbass! If not for the fact that I could exploit you, I would've dumped you a long time ago." He was just a poor kid who stumbled in

"What a tortured life this child has lived. If she hadn't been born in the Campbells, she would not have experienced such horrors." Danielle's true colors were aired to the public, making her feel like her head was about to be split open."Daisy, you bitch! How dare you stalk me? Turn it off." Danielle rushed forward and attempted to destroy the computer. Yet, she couldn't even reach it. "Are you getting into a tizzy already? We're just getting started. The good stuff is yet to come!" I slowly opened up another folder. A pair of lovers was shown on the screen, tangled up in each other. They were in the staff's quarters. As they changed positions, the man turned to the camera. It was Zachary. "Wow! Just as I'd expected. The nanny is involved with her employer!" "Mr. Campbell must be an idiot. Not only is he stupid, but he must be blind as well. His gorgeous wife wasn't enough for him. Yet, he had to cheat on her with the nanny." They had christened every corner of the

"Mom and I are merely employees. We gave everything we had to Griselda. Yet, she rebelled against us and even tried to beat us up! We're all victims. Griselda was the one behind all this!" It was hilarious. I chuckled out loud. Danielle tortured Griselda extensively. Yet, she was still shameless enough to insist she'd sacrificed everything for Griselda. The half-crazed glint in my eyes made Danielle cower in an attempt to hide her diffidence. "Mrs. Campbell, even if Mom and I haven't been able to offer the best services, at least we tried our hardest. Mason and Griselda were born around the same time. We took care of them around the clock. "Even when we had no idea that Mason was our son, we prioritized him over Griselda. We gave our utmost loyalty to you guys. Look at what you've done now. Mom cared for Griselda all these years, only to die a gruesome death. Doesn't that weigh on your conscience?"It was a pity Danielle wasn't in the entertainment industry. She was a stella

The people in the room were stunned by the revelations coming one after another. Everyone only went downstairs to see what was going on when police sirens started blaring. When the lifts arrived at the hall, the police had put up yellow tape around the surroundings. It was over. There was no way anyone could survive falling down a building of 20 stories. Zachary broke down as he rushed over, wailing, "That's my daughter. Griselda has been living like a beggar for her whole life. She didn't even get the chance to call me Dad. She was only eighteen and died such a gruesome death…"While everyone still focused on him, he punched himself in a show of guilt. "It was all my fault. I failed to recognize you and caused you to suffer for more than a decade. I'll accompany you in your death right now!"A few people surged forward quickly to stop him. Zachary cried till his knees went weak. He only managed to stand up after two burly men helped him up. My calmness made me look downr
