Chapter 8

Author: Mrs. Leopard
Sasha was heading to Ella's hometown.

Before Ella passed away, her biggest wish had been to return to her hometown.

Back then, Sasha had been too busy with work. Besides, her hometown had brought her too much pain, so she'd kept putting off bringing Ella's ashes back.

Even though she forced herself to hold back her emotions, when the cold air hit her face, all the sharp, painful memories locked deep in her mind rushed back, slamming into her.

Ella had been the other woman. After Sasha was born, Ella had been exposed by Priscilla Berg, the wife of the man she was involved with.

In retaliation, Priscilla didn't just spread Ella's photo around town. Every time Ella tried to find a job, Priscilla and her people would show up and cause a scene—smashing things, tearing off her clothes, and doing whatever they could to humiliate her.

Throughout Sasha's childhood, the only images she had were of Ella covering her body in public or begging Priscilla on her knees.

Ella, unable to keep any job due to the constant disruptions, had no choice but to take Sasha with her to scavenge through trash bins and live under a bridge.

Even when the neighborhood committee helped Sasha get into school, Priscilla didn't leave them alone.

She put up banners in front of Sasha's school, handed out Ella's photos to the other students' parents, and accused her of being a morally corrupt mistress.

She called Sasha an "illegitimate child" who didn't deserve an education in front of everyone.

Even though Sasha was just a little girl at the time, she could feel the sting of the mocking and pitying glances from everyone around her.

Finally, after all the torment, Ella couldn't take it anymore. She took Sasha up to the 20th floor of a building.

Sasha could never forget the dizziness she felt standing on that wind-blown rooftop and Ella's tear-streaked face, which was full of despair.

"I'm so sorry, Sasha. I made you go through all this pain. But don't worry. I'll set us free now. If we jump from here, we won't be in pain anymore. We'll finally be free."

Saying that, Ella grabbed Sasha and tried to drag her to the edge.

Sasha was in so much pain, but she still wanted to live. She dropped to her knees and sobbed uncontrollably.

"Mom, please… Please don't take me with you. I want to live. I want to stay alive, even if this life is all I have left. Let's get out of here. Let's go somewhere far away and hide for the rest of our lives. Please."

Sasha slammed her forehead hard against the rough concrete ground.

The sound of her head hitting the ground echoed in the quiet, like a death knell.

She almost felt like she'd crack her skull open. Only when she thought she was about to break did Ella crawl over and pull her into a tight embrace.

"I'm sorry, Sasha. We won't die. We won't die."

Cradled in Ella's arms, Sasha smelled the rusty scent of the blood oozing from her forehead.

And that was the first time she understood what it meant to hate.

She couldn't hate Ella, who gave birth to her and raised her, but she hated the man who got Ella pregnant and Priscilla, who pushed them to the brink of destruction.

Maybe the pain of the past was just too much to bear. After Sasha left the airport, she smoked three cigarettes to calm the suffocating weight in her heart.

Then, she drove to her uncle Arthur Barlow's eatery.

The moment she walked in, Arthur looked at her with a face full of disgust.

"Sasha, do you know that I can never show my face around here because of your mom? And now you have the nerve to come back?"

Sasha didn't respond to him. Instead, she calmly pulled an envelope from her purse. "Here's 50 thousand dollars. Bury my mom's ashes in the Barlow family's ancestral grave."

Arthur's face, which had been full of disdain, immediately shifted to a false smile.

"You should've said you had money sooner. It's just an urn. I'll take care of it right away. Don't worry. I'll make sure to find her a good burial site.

"How about next to your grandma's grave? She loved Ella the most, even mentioning before she passed that she wished Ella could come to visit her."

Sasha didn't want to listen to Arthur's rambling. She coldly left her phone number and walked out of the restaurant.

Once outside, seeing the snow falling softly from the sky, Sasha couldn't resist pulling out a cigarette and placing it between her lips.

As she watched the smoke twist and dance in the cold air, her eyes finally filled with tears.

She exhaled a puff of smoke before choking out, "I've finally brought you home, Mom."

That was some impressive efficiency.Sasha didn't have the time to deal with Heidi.Ever since they'd gotten married, Daniel seemed to have completely let go of his restraints. He was always by her side, his eyes constantly watching her like a hawk. When she worked, he sat on the couch playing on his phone. When she entertained guests, he stood right behind her, staring. With him constantly hovering, the guests who came to eat didn't dare shake her hand or have her serve them. One day, Sasha had had enough. "Don't you have anything else to do? You have so much business to take care of."But Daniel only lifted his hungry eyes. "If everything requires my

As Sasha held onto Daniel's hand, the cool breeze brought her a moment of clarity. Was she angry?Of course she was.Anyone would be furious to know they had been stalked by someone. As Aidan had said, Daniel was crazy. She thought she was going to die.Half-conscious, she called Aidan, and he just asked her to take some cold medicine before hanging up.Just when she thought she was going to burn to death that night, a tall figure entered her apartment. He took her to the hospital and paid for her treatment. But when she woke up, all she saw was Carissa.Sasha had been confused. Even in her delirious state, she clearly remembered the man who saved her. He was tall, over six feet. Also, many of the clients she had encountered at work had tried to harass her. After Sasha parted ways with Aidan, she went back to her rental apartment. When she arrived downstairs, she spotted the unremarkable Chevrolet parked across the street. It was the same car she often saw there. She took a deep breath.Between going upstairs to her apartment and confronting Daniel's lies, she chose to walk toward the car.As Sasha approached, it was the first time Daniel had ever felt truly scared. For seven years, he had been lurking like a voyeur, hiding in the car and watching Sasha from afar.He watched as she walked alone through the streets. He watched her cry and blow smoke rings into the air.He watched her kiss Aidan and make physical contact inside the car.He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help himself. When Sasha left the club, he had truly wanted to let her go. But after she was gone, he realized he couldn't. He couldn't let go of her.He knew his love for Sasha was obsessive, unhealthy, and even twisted. But in those seven years of waiting f

At that moment, Sasha had no idea just how much pressure Ernest was under because of her. When Aidan appeared before her again, she instinctively frowned. Before she could react, Aidan had already approached her and grabbed her hand."Listen, Sasha. I know you're not ready to forgive me yet, but there's something really important I need to tell you. Daniel's been plotting this for a long time. He's wanted to break us up from the start."Natalie… Yeah, he sent Natalie to get close to me on purpose to tear us apart. He had her drug me so that she could get pregnant with my baby. Did you know? He's even gone as far as canceling all my company's orders just to keep me away from you."It's really not my fault. We broke up all because of Daniel. I have proof. I really do."With that, Aidan shoved a stack of papers he'd gotten from a private investigator into Sasha's hands. As Sasha looked down at the documents, her eyes suddenly turned red-rimmed.The papers revealed that Daniel had

Sasha and Daniel stood in the office, locked in each other's arms, for an entire hour. She was starting to go crazy, but since he didn't let go, she didn't dare to either. The aftermath was that her legs went numb from standing too long, and the cramps from her period hit her with a vengeance.Once Daniel left, Sasha couldn't stand the pain anymore and immediately asked Heidi to bring her a cup of chamomile tea.Heidi walked in, holding the cup, and teasingly said, "Seriously, you said you wanted to sort things out, but you don't look like someone trying to sort things out. If you weren't on your period, you and Mr. Marsh would be in bed by now."Sasha rolled her eyes. "What are you even thinking?"Heidi shrugged. "Honestly, you should just give in. Stop being so stubborn. A man like Mr. Marsh is hard to find nowadays."Sasha's expression instantly became serious. She took a sip of the chamomile tea, then quietly murmured, "I know, but I'm scared."Heidi was silent for a moment

Even when Sasha got back to the office, she couldn't shake the excitement.Once her emotions had settled, she couldn't resist asking Daniel, "Mr. Marsh, did you really forget that woman? You really don't recognize her?"Daniel immediately responded with a serious tone, "I don't know her. I don't remember her."Sasha's smile only grew wider. "Then do you remember that night we met at the police station?"Daniel nervously licked his lips.He thought Sasha had figured out that he had been following her.Back when Sasha first came to this city, he had already followed her and bought the same flight to arrive here. From the moment Sasha landed and smoked those three cigarettes outside the airport, he'd been like a dedicated stalker, doing everything he could to get closer to her.Coincidentally, that was when Sasha had a fallout with Priscilla. It was only when his driver, Ernest Conway, reminded him that he remembered he had once hired a woman who looked a lot like Sasha to ease h

Hearing the woman's furious outburst, Sasha just smirked mockingly."If your dad has that much power, then go ahead and have him shut down my restaurant tomorrow. But for now, you and your little group of trash can crawl out of here."The moment she finished speaking, the security guards arrived right on cue.Just then, Jenna, who was sitting at the head of the table, suddenly stood up with tears streaming down her face. Looking pitiful, she choked out, "Do you have to go this far, Sasha? Must you take everything from me?"First, your mom stole my dad, forcing my mom to spend her whole life in resentment. Now, I finally have someone I love, and you're stealing my boyfriend just like your mom stole my dad?"Please, I'm begging you. Stop going against me. I'll admit I was wrong. I'll even kneel if that's what it takes."With that, Jenna shoved her chair aside in agitation, knocking over the plates and cutlery on the table. She then walked over to Sasha and dropped to her knees.Sa

But Daniel wasn't just saying empty words. It was as if he truly believed that his proposal had been successful.Suddenly, Sasha's private restaurant was flooded with customers. Before she could even process what was happening, Heidi told her mysteriously, "You're done for, Sasha! Completely done for!"I just overheard something from a customer. Do you know what I heard? Mr. Marsh has publicly announced that he's preparing to get married to the woman he loves, and that woman is you!"Sasha's pupils shrank in shock. In her panic to stand up, she accidentally knocked over a glass on the table, shattering it into pieces.Heidi looked at her flustered expression and sighed helplessly. "Sasha, I know you're scared of Mr. Marsh, but you can't keep avoiding this. If you don't like him, you need to tell him clearly as soon as possible. He's not someone we can afford to offend."Sasha's gaze landed on the emerald ring sitting on her desk.Of course, she knew she couldn't afford to offen

After speaking, Daniel, with suppressed anger, held onto Sasha and turned to leave. As Aidan watched the two of them so closely entwined, he felt jealousy rise, turning his face a deep red.He couldn't care less about Daniel's status. He hurriedly chased after Sasha. But just as he was about to follow, two men in black suits blocked his path."I advise you to think carefully, Mr. Gallagher. If you go after her now, you won't be able to handle the consequences."Aidan froze in place, his fingers digging into the ring Lisa had left him. The veins in his hands bulged as he clenched it so tightly.Meanwhile, Sasha wasn't faring any better. Her body was forcefully pressed against Daniel's chest. The warmth of his body seeped through the thick fur coat, sending wave after wave of goosebumps across her skin. She glanced at Heidi, who was hiding in a corner. Her eyes pleaded for help, but Heidi only shook her head in fear.Realizing no one would come to her rescue, Sasha knew she had t
