His gaze fell on me, and he frowned deeply. "You're acting strange today. What's wrong? Are you so thrilled about becoming my mate that you've lost your mind?"

He had no idea how right he was.

Because finally, finally, I was seeing him alive again.

I smiled. "I think you're the best person in the world. Whoever becomes your mate will be very lucky."

He snorted coldly and turned to walk away. If I didn't know he didn't love me, I might have thought he was embarrassed.

Just then, a young couple nearby was chattering excitedly.

"There's going to be a blood moon tonight—once in a century! Legend says the blood moon is when the Moon Goddess descends. Mates who witness it together receive her blessing for health, peace, and love until they're old and gray. Honey, let's go see it together!"

My steps slowed.

I remembered this day from my past life. Full of foolish hope that he might learn to love me, I'd begged him to watch the blood moon with me.

His response had been cruel mockery. "Those legends are fairy tales for children. How old are you? Why do you still believe such nonsense? If two complete strangers happened to see a blood moon together, would they be bound for life too? There's only political advantage and obligation between us. No love. The Moon Goddess won't bless us."

Those words had shattered my beautiful fantasy.

This time, I had no such expectations.

But suddenly Ethan spoke up. "If you want to see the lunar eclipse, I can go with you. But don't expect a honeymoon afterward. I have Alpha heir training courses. I don't have time."

I stared at him in surprise. I hadn't expected him to offer.

But then I understood. Despite his sharp tongue, Ethan had always been kind at heart. Otherwise, he never would have risked his life to save me three times.

The first time was the year I first shifted. I couldn't fully control my wolf yet and nearly fell into a hunter's silver thorn trap. Ethan saved me, but fell into the trap himself and was covered in wounds. He almost lost his wolf permanently. His right hand still carried silver poisoning, leaving lasting damage that nearly cost him his inheritance of the Moon Creek pack.

The second time was during the territorial volcano eruption. The lava was lethal even for an Alpha, but he shifted into wolf form and wrapped himself around me. The molten rock splashed all over his body. If a healer hadn't been nearby, he would have died.

The third time, a rogue wolf had lost control and was attacking everyone in sight. Ethan threw himself between us. I escaped without a scratch, but the rogue's claws pierced straight through his chest.

Three times he'd saved my life. How could I not fall hopelessly in love with him?

Ethan didn't wait for my answer. His voice grew impatient. "Are you going to watch the blood moon or not?"

I snapped back to reality and smiled at him. "Yes. Tonight, let's watch it together."

His expression finally relaxed, and he hailed a taxi.

"I'll take you home first, then pick you up later to go to the valley."

Just then, Ethan's phone rang. His face darkened as he answered.

"Ivy's dog is sick. She's really worried and can't handle it alone. I need to go check on her. You head home by yourself."

I nodded. "Okay."

Of course. I probably ranked lower in Ethan's heart than Ivy's pet.

He looked puzzled. "You used to hate it when I went to see her. Why are you being so reasonable now?"

I opened my mouth to respond, but he laughed coldly before I could speak.

"Right. We're about to become mates anyway. She's no threat to you anymore. Text me when you get home. I'm leaving."

The most important person? The intensity in his eyes, the way he'd leaned forward like he was about to say something more—it had all been too much.I'd stared at him continuously, trying to process what he'd just said. The implications. The sacrifice he'd made.Seeing my stare, Ethan's ears had turned red and he'd coughed awkwardly, suddenly looking more like the boy I used to know."I saw you liked photos of moon flowers on Facebook the other day," he'd said, his words coming out in a rush. "I've prepared a surprise for you tonight. When the time comes, you...""Ethan."I'd gently interrupted him, and seeing my expression was off, he'd quickly started backtracking."Don't you like moon flowers? I'm sorry, I'll rearrange everything right now. What would you like to see? Fireworks? Fountains? I can call the event planner—""Ethan, stop."He'd looked very nervous then, that humble, eager-to-please expression exactly like how I used to be. The role reversal had been painful to witness."W

His mother spat in disgust, her face twisting with contempt. "Evil gets its reward. Even though she was saved from that injury, her life isn't going well now."She leaned forward, lowering her voice like she was sharing pack gossip. "I heard she tried to be someone's mistress recently and got caught by the original mate. She was beaten badly—black eye, broken ribs, the works. Now everyone on the street shuns her. No decent pack will take her in."His father shook his head grimly. "She made her bed with all those lies and manipulations. Now she has to lie in it."I sighed, agreeing with his father's sentiment. "What goes around comes around. Good and evil always get their due.""Exactly," his mother continued, her voice getting more animated. "And you know what the worst part is? She's been trying to contact Ethan again. Can you believe the audacity? After everything she put him through, she still thinks she can crawl back."My stomach tightened at that news. "Has she... has she succeed

I blinked, focusing on the young woman standing beside my desk. Sarah, one of my graduate students. She had concerned brown eyes and was holding my phone out to me."How long was I...?" I started to ask."About ten minutes," she said gently. "You seemed to zone out during our research discussion. Are you feeling alright? You look pale."I realized I was in my university office, not my bedroom. The memories were still settling, reality and recollection blurring together."I'm fine," I said, taking the phone from her. "Just tired. Thank you, Sarah."She nodded but didn't leave immediately. "The caller ID says 'Mom.' Should I tell her you'll call back?"I snapped back to reality completely and gently thanked her. "No, I'll take it. Could you give me a moment?"She nodded and stepped out, closing the door behind her.The caller was Mom—Ethan's mother, who'd raised me as her own. I immediately answered."Rachel, dear, I hope I'm not interrupting your classes."Her warm voice brought instant

After leaving the hospital, I felt an obsession driving me home. My legs moved on autopilot through the empty streets. The world around me felt surreal, like I was walking through a dream.I knew it was time. Time to return. When I opened my eyes again, everything felt wrong. The light streaming through my window was too bright, the air too clean. I instinctively reached for the wall to steady myself, my head spinning violently. My temples throbbed with sharp, stabbing pains. It felt like someone was driving nails into my skull.I realized I was back—twelve years later. But this time, history had changed. The room looked different. Instead of the sparse, clinical space I remembered, there were warm touches everywhere. Photos on the nightstand. Books scattered on the desk. A coffee mug with "World's Best Professor" printed on it.This wasn't the life I remembered living.A flood of new memories suddenly crashed into my mind like a tsunami. They hit me so hard I gasped, clutching my hea

His mother's voice rose to a furious shriek through the phone speaker. "You shameless woman! How dare you trample on someone else's love like this? Aren't you afraid the Moon Goddess will punish you?"The recording crackled with static as Ivy's voice came through, dripping with contempt and amusement."Punish me? Please. I'm just smart enough to know what I want and how to get it. Your precious son is nothing but a lovesick puppy who comes running every time I crook my finger."Ethan's face went ashen. His hands clenched into fists at his sides."The funniest part," Ivy continued in the recording, "is watching him throw away that pathetic girl who actually loves him. Rachel is so boring and predictable. At least with Ethan, I get entertainment value watching him suffer."The other person laughed scornfully, and the recording cut off abruptly.Ethan stood there stunned, his world tilting on its axis. His breathing became shallow and rapid. This was completely different from what he'd im

The thermos bowl crashed to the floor with a deafening clang.Ethan's face went completely white. His hands shook violently as he stared at his beta assistant."What did you say!" His voice came out as a strangled roar that echoed down the hospital corridor. His heart felt like it had been struck by a sledgehammer. Sharp, crushing pain shot through his chest, making it hard to breathe. The world around him seemed to tilt and blur."Alpha, please calm down," his assistant said nervously, glancing around at the staring medical staff. "The situation is—""No!" Ethan cut him off, his voice breaking.Ethan forced himself to stay calm, though his entire body was trembling. "Where is she now? Take me to see her immediately!"His assistant scrambled to lead the way, practically running to keep up with Ethan's frantic pace. When they reached the hospital room, Ethan shoved the door open so violently it slammed against the wall with a bang."Wait, Alpha, you can't go in there right now!"A head
