LOGINAthena!!!
"Mate!"
Nyx's howl shook every corner of my mind, louder and clearer than she had ever sounded in five long years. The sheer, overwhelming force of her voice stole the air straight from my lungs, leaving me breathless in the middle of the crowded courtyard.
*No... No.*
This couldn't be happening. Not to me.
Not after five years of living as the Silver Moon Pack's cursed servant, condemned to scrape by on scraps and harsh words. Not after everyone had already tried, convicted, and sentenced me in their minds for the murder of my own parents.
My trembling hands completely lost their grip on the heavy basket. Dozens of delicate white lilies, deep crimson roses, and shimmering silver ribbons scattered wildly across the polished stone courtyard, drawing every single eye in the area directly to me.
Silence followed. An eerie, suffocating silence settled over the entire courtyard like a heavy blanket.
Even the birds seemed to stop singing.
Every Alpha, Beta, warrior, and servant stood completely frozen, staring back and forth between me and the imposing man standing beside the sleek black SUV.
Alpha Evan "Buck" Buckley.
The most feared, revered Alpha in the Northern Territories.
His piercing blue eyes were locked firmly onto mine, unblinking and intense. I watched as his expression shifted rapidly from initial confusion to absolute disbelief.
And then... pain.
His hand pressed tightly against his chest, right over his heart, as though an invisible blade had struck him.
My own heart pounded so violently against my ribs I thought it might shatter them. Beside me in the darkness of my mind, Nyx whimpered softly.
*"He's ours... We found him..."*
Tears blurred my vision, warm and heavy.
*A mate.*
The Moon Goddess hadn't forgotten me after all. She had truly given me a mate.
For one fragile, beautiful second, a dream I had buried years ago beneath layers of grief and trauma came rushing back to the surface.
Maybe... just maybe, this was my chance. Maybe my miserable life wasn't destined to end in cold iron chains or a forgotten storage room. Maybe someone powerful enough would finally look at me and see who I really was.
A woman. Not a monster. Not a murderer. Not a servant. Not a curse.
A woman worthy of being loved.
"Athena!"
The furious roar shattered every hopeful thought before it could even take root.
My brother.
Alpha Damon Grant strode furiously across the courtyard, dark fire flashing in his eyes. Before I even had the presence of mind to lower my head in submission, his palm crashed violently across my face.
The sharp slap echoed across the courtyard like a crack of thunder.
I stumbled backwards from the impact, my feet tangling in my worn dress before I crashed heavily against the sharp edges of the marble steps. Pain exploded across my cheek, hot and blinding.
No one moved. No one dared to interfere.
"You worthless disgrace!" Damon snarled, stepping into my space until his polished boots were all I could see. "Look at what you've done!"
"I... I'm sorry..." I gasped out, my voice raspy.
"You dropped decorations meant for the Alpha Summit!" he roared, his voice echoing off the stone walls.
"I'll clean them up right now—"
"You'll do a hell of a lot more than that!"
Before I could move, Damon reached down, grabbed a brutal fistful of my dark hair, and yanked me straight upright.
Gasps rippled quietly through the gathered servants, but no one stepped forward. No warrior raised a hand to stop him. They never did.
"Have you forgotten your place, you pathetic murderer?" Damon hissed directly into my ear, his breath hot against my bruised skin.
I closed my eyes tightly, forcing down the humiliation and the hot tears stinging behind my eyelids. "My place is wherever you order me to be, Alpha."
His grip tightened painfully, yanking my scalp until my neck strained, before he finally shoved me back down. "Good."
He released me, and I collapsed back onto my knees. With shaking, raw fingers, I began desperately gathering the crushed, dirt-stained flowers from the stone. Humiliation burned far hotter inside me than the stinging bruise on my cheek.
Suddenly, a pair of dark, polished designer shoes stopped only a few feet away from where I knelt.
I didn't need to look up to know who it was. The sheer weight of his presence was overwhelming.
*Buck.*
Every instinct I possessed begged me to raise my head, to look into his eyes and search for a single spark of recognition or mercy. But I forced my eyes to stay fixed strictly on the stone floor.
Servants were not allowed to meet a visiting Alpha's gaze. Especially not an Alpha like him.
"You hit her."
Buck's voice cut through the silent air. It was calm. Far too calm—like the deadly quiet right before a tempest strikes.
Damon straightened his coat, clearing his throat with a careless shrug. "My servant made a mistake, Alpha Buckley. She needs to be reminded of discipline."
Silence stretched between them.
Buck didn't answer immediately. Even without looking up, I could feel the intense, burning weight of his gaze lingering over my trembling form, taking in my soaked dress, my bruised face, and my raw hands.
His scent drifted through the cool air, washing over my senses.
*Cedar. Rain. Fresh smoke.*
It wrapped around me like a warm, protective blanket, instantly soothing the ragged edges of my soul.
In my mind, Nyx purred, stretching out toward the scent. *"He's so close..."*
I wanted to cry. I wanted to throw dignity to the wind, throw myself into his arms, and beg him to take me away from this nightmare. I wanted desperately to believe that the Moon Goddess hadn't abandoned me to suffer forever.
Instead, Buck spoke again, his tone unreadable. "She's bleeding."
My fingers instinctively rose to touch my lower face. A single, dark drop of blood from my split lip stained my pale fingertips.
Damon chuckled, a dismissive, cruel sound. "A murderer's blood isn't worth worrying about, Alpha Evan. She's lucky I allow her to draw breath in this pack at all."
Buck didn't reply to that. The silence grew thicker, heavy with an unspoken tension that made the surrounding warriors shift uncomfortably on their feet.
Finally, an older Alpha stepped forward, placing a gentle hand near Buck's shoulder. "Alpha Damon," Bobby Nash said diplomatically, his voice breaking the standoff. "Our journey was long and arduous. Perhaps we should take this conversation inside and begin the proceedings."
Damon immediately plastered a fake, welcoming smile across his face. "Of course, Alpha Nash. As you wish. Right this way."
The warm, protective aura vanished almost instantly as the group moved. Buck walked right past my kneeling figure without uttering another single word.
I kept my head down, watching his polished shoes disappear through the massive mahogany doors of the grand hall.
Nyx whimpered softly, a sound of pure heartbreak. *"Why didn't he help us? Why did he just walk away?"*
"I don't know," I whispered back silently, my heart aching in my chest.
*"He felt the bond. I know he felt it!"*
"I know he did."
*"Then why leave us here in the dirt?"*
I had no answer for her. Perhaps even fate itself agreed with my brother. Perhaps even the universe thought a girl accused of murdering her own family wasn't worth saving.
By the time sunset painted the sky in shades of bruised purple and dark orange, every grand hall inside the Silver Moon Pack mansion glittered brilliantly beneath hundreds of crystal chandeliers.
Soft orchestral music floated through the wide corridors, and boisterous laughter echoed continuously from the main banquet room. The greatest and most influential Alphas in the territories were celebrating together, drinking fine wines and discussing pack treaties.
Meanwhile... I was down on my hands and knees, scrubbing dried mud and grease from the grand entrance staircase with numb, aching fingers.
My stomach growled painfully. I hadn't eaten a single bite since dawn, but that was nothing new. Servants were only permitted to eat after every guest and warrior had finished—if there were any leftover scraps remaining at all.
"You're slacking again."
I stiffened as Beta Lucas appeared at the top of the stairs, his arms folded tightly over his broad chest as he looked down at me with disdain.
"I'll finish this section soon, Beta," I said quietly, keeping my eyes on the bucket.
"You'd better hurry it up." He casually kicked another heavy bucket of soapy water, sending a fresh wave splashing over my knees and soaking through my thin dress once again. "When you're done here, the main banquet hall requires additional serving staff."
My hand froze over the scrub brush. "The banquet is already underway. The kitchen staff usually handles the serving."
He smiled, a slow, predatory expression that made my skin crawl. "It isn't for regular serving, Athena."
A deep, instinctual chill crawled slowly up my spine. "What do you mean?"
"Some of the visiting Alpha delegates requested more... *accommodating* female servants to keep their glasses full and keep them entertained," Lucas said, leaning down slightly so his voice carried only to me.
Fear settled like a block of ice inside my stomach.
I knew what that meant. Everyone in the pack knew what happened during the late hours of the Alpha Summits. Many servant girls who were assigned to the private lounges or late-night banquet tables were never treated as human beings. Some were forced into becoming concubines for visiting high-ranking wolves. Others simply vanished into the night, their fates entirely forgotten.
"I... I have to finish the corridors," I stammered, backing away slightly on my knees. "The Alpha said—"
"You'll go exactly where you're ordered to go," Lucas interrupted sharply, his voice dropping into a harsh threat. "Or I'll personally ensure you spend the next week chained in the sub-basement without water. Understand?"
He didn't wait for an answer. He just turned on his heel and walked away, his cruel laughter echoing off the high stone walls.
In the deep recesses of my mind, Nyx growled, a low, menacing sound that rattled my chest. *"If any of those bastard wolves try to put their hands on us tonight..."*
*"Nyx, stop,"* I cautioned her internally, trembling. *"We are too weak. We have no standing here. We can't fight an entire hall of Alphas."*
*"Not forever,"* she snapped back, her voice carrying a strange, fiery intensity that took me completely off guard.
Her sudden confidence stunned me. She hadn't sounded this determined, this sharp, in five years of suppression. Ever since Alpha Buck had stepped out of that vehicle, something fundamental had shifted deep within my dormant wolf.
Somewhere far beneath the scars, the humiliation, and the despair... a dormant power was beginning to stir. It was tiny, fragile as a flickering candle in a storm, but it was undeniably alive.
The massive double doors to the main banquet hall were thrown wide open.
Warm, golden light and the heavy scents of roasted meats, expensive perfumes, and strong liquors spilled out into the drafty corridor. I lowered my head, standing in a straight, rigid line alongside six other servant girls near the grand entrance.
The lively music paused for a moment as the pack herald stepped forward, his voice booming over the chatter to make an announcement.
"Presenting Alpha Evan Buckley of the Ironclaw Pack!"
A thunderous round of applause and respectful cheers erupted throughout the massive hall.
Against every grain of common sense, against every rule drilled into my head for five agonizing years, my eyes lifted.
Buck entered the room with total, unbated command. He was wearing a dark suit that accented his broad shoulders and commanding stature. Every single movement he made radiated effortless, lethal authority.
Women throughout the hall watched him with hungry, ambitious eyes, silently measuring their chances of catching his favor. Men watched him with tense respect, carefully keeping their distance from a wolf who had united three territories through sheer strength.
And then... it happened again.
His gaze cut straight through the crowd. Past the high-ranking Betas, past the dressed-up noblewomen, past the grand tables laden with food—straight to the dark corner where I stood in my soaked, dirty servant's rags.
The mate bond flared between us so violently that my knees actually buckled, and I had to grab the edge of a nearby wooden pillar just to keep from collapsing to the floor.
Nyx whispered inside my head, her voice trembling with a mix of awe and heartbreak. *"He can't stop looking at us... He feels it too..."*
I took a shaky breath, stepping forward—
Before I could even take a full step, a breathtaking woman dressed in a shimmering silver silk gown glided effortlessly out of the crowd and stepped directly to Buck's side.
She was stunning. Her golden hair fell in flawless waves over her shoulders, her skin was radiant, and her dark eyes sparkled with supreme confidence. Smiling brilliantly up at him, she slid her delicate, manicured arm familiarly through his, leaning her head close to his shoulder as if she belonged there.
As if she had always belonged there.
She was the picture-perfect image of a Luna. Everything a powerful, legendary Alpha could ever want or need by his side.
Subtle whispers instantly rippled through the surrounding crowd of nobles.
*"Look at them... they make such an incredible couple."*
*"She's the daughter of Alpha Vance, isn't she? A perfect political match."*
*"The future Alpha and Luna of the United Territories, mark my words. Absolutely magnificent together."*
My heart didn't just break—it shattered into a thousand jagged pieces right there in my chest.
I stared at them, waiting, praying, desperately hoping that Buck would pull away. That he would gently disengage her arm, step back, or show even the slightest hint of discomfort at her touch.
He didn't.
He remained right where he was, his expression unreadable as he allowed the beautiful woman to stay wrapped around his arm, leaning into him as they addressed the cheering crowd together.
In the back of my mind, Nyx let out a raw, agonized cry—a sound so filled with utter betrayal and heartbreak that it completely drowned out the music, the applause, and the laughter of the banquet hall.
And standing there in the shadows, dressed in rags, covered in bruises, and completely invisible to the world, I finally understood the cruelest truth of all.
The Moon Goddess had granted me a mate. But fate hadn't promised me a savior, and it certainly hadn't promised me a happy ending.
Sometimes, the bond didn't bring salvation.
Sometimes, it only delivered the final, devastating blow to a heart that was already broken.
The letter slipped from the leather pouch and landed on the marble floor with a soft, echoing sound. No one moved. No one dared. It looked ordinary—a single folded piece of parchment stained with soot and dried blood. Yet everyone in the Grand Hall knew it carried a truth powerful enough to shake every werewolf pack across the territories.I stared down at the familiar handwriting penned across the front.> To my daughter, if I die.> My vision blurred instantly. "No..." The whisper escaped my lips before I could stop it. "It can't be..."Five years. For five agonizing years, I had lived with the agonizing belief that my parents had perished in the inferno without saying goodbye—that the last thing they knew was terror.Now... a part of them had survived.Marcus bent down, his armor clanking softly, and carefully picked up the letter. He held it with the same absolute reverence a warrior would show an ancient, sacred relic."This belonged to Alpha William Grant," Marcus said, his gra
The words echoed through the ruined Grand Hall like a death sentence.> "She remembers the night you murdered your father."> Every sound disappeared. The warriors froze mid-step, the Alpha Council stared in unblinking shock at the hooded stranger, and even the raging battle outside seemed to vanish beneath the crushing weight of the silence. My knees weakened. The memories... they were coming back. Not all at once, but in sharp, fragmented pieces of a nightmare I had spent five years trying to piece together.Smoke.Fire.My mother's scream. My father's roar.A shadow moving through the flames.I clutched my head as another sharp pain shot through my skull. "No..." I whispered, my voice trembling. "I can't..."Buck instinctively stepped toward me, his hand reaching out to steady my shaking frame. Before he could reach me, Damon roared, "Seize him!"Silver Moon warriors immediately surrounded the hooded man, weapons drawn and sharp steel glinting under the flickering torches. The stra
The silver light exploded from my body with such violent force that I was thrown backward across the cold marble.A raw, ragged scream tore from my throat—a sound far deeper than mere physical agony. It felt as though something ancient and buried deep inside my bones was violently clawing its way back to the surface. The divine light wrapped around my body like ribbons of pure moonlight, growing brighter and hotter with every thundering heartbeat.Above me on the altar, the cracked Moonstone vibrated violently, humming with an unbearable frequency until—BOOM!The sacred relic shattered into countless glowing fragments, raining dust and light across the stone.Gasps echoed throughout the Grand Hall."No..." Damon whispered, the dark color completely draining from his face as he stumbled back a pace.Bobby Nash stared at the shattered pieces of the centuries-old artifact in sheer disbelief. "It can't be..."The ancient Moonstone had survived centuries of bloody wars, catastrophic flood
The black wolf stood squarely in the middle of the ruined entrance, towering over the shattered wooden beams.Smoke curled lazily around its enormous body, and its glowing golden eyes never left mine. Its voice echoed through the vast, ruined Grand Hall with terrifying clarity:"We found the heir."Silence followed. The heavy, unexpected words seemed to steal the very air straight from everyone's lungs. My heartbeat thundered like a war drum inside my chest.Heir? The monstrous rogue couldn't possibly be talking about me. I was nothing. A servant. A prisoner in the very pack that had once been my loving home.I looked around frantically, desperately hoping someone would laugh out loud and call it a tragic mistake. No one did.Instead, every single pair of eyes in the hall slowly turned toward me."What heir?" one visiting Alpha demanded, stepping forward."The girl?" another whispered in shock."That's impossible."Buck's dark gaze hardened instantly. Before he even realized he was do
The explosion shook the entire manor, shattering the towering stained-glass windows inward and sending razor-sharp fragments flying across the Grand Hall. Screams erupted as the beautiful banquet dissolved into instant chaos."Protect the Council!" someone shouted while warriors rushed toward the entrance and servants scattered in panic.Athena instinctively ducked, covering her head as shards of glass rained onto the marble floor. Another deafening blast echoed from outside, making the ground tremble beneath her feet. A bloodied warrior stumbled through the broken doors, barely able to stand."They're everywhere!" he gasped. "The eastern gate has fallen!"Before anyone could question him further, he collapsed face-first onto the floor—dead. For one heartbeat, no one moved. Then every Alpha in the hall sprang into action."Seal the western entrance!""Get the Elders to safety!""Protect the civilians!"The hall erupted into organized chaos. Silence swallowed the Grand Hall whole. The glowing Moonstone in Athena’s trembling hand slowly dimmed, but the truth it had revealed could never be hidden again. Every pair of eyes was fixed on Alpha Evan "Buck" Buckley. No one looked at her anymore; they were all waiting for him. They waited to see whether one of the strongest Alphas alive would accept... or reject... the servant standing before him.Her fingers tightened around the Moonstone before an Elder gently took it from her hands, forcing her to lower her gaze as her heartbeat echoed painfully in her ears."A servant..." someone whispered."This has never happened before.""The Moon Goddess must be testing him.""No Alpha would take her as his Luna."The whispers spread like wildfire through the hall, each one cutting a little deeper. At the head of the chamber, Damon folded his arms with his face carefully composed, though only the satisfaction glinting in his eyes betrayed him. This was exactly what he had wanted—to humili
