Serena's POV

The car slowed long before the gates appeared, as if the driver was scared of what was coming. I felt the change in motion through the seat before I saw anything, my body reacting faster than my mind. The road below us became smooth and quiet, like it was made for people who didn't want to be heard coming. Even though my hands were still in my lap, my heart was beating so fast that it hurt my wrists.

The gates then came into view.

They were not loud or dramatic, no sharp edges meant to scare. The clean, shiny, tall stone walls turned inward and were so far apart that they seemed to go on forever. The steel bars slid apart without a sound, smooth and practiced, as if they had opened this way a thousand times before. On both sides, men in dark suits stood evenly spread, with blank, calm faces.

I also kept my face calm.

As the car moved forward, the gates closed behind us with a soft click that shook my chest more than it should have. For a brief moment, I understood the me

Serena's POVNathan did not say anything else, he just pressed the play button. The room dimmed as the screen came alive, the soft hum of the laptop filling the silence between us. I leaned forward, my hands resting on the edge of the desk, my shoulders tight like they were getting ready for something. The file title sat at the corner of the screen like a quiet warning I could no longer ignore. The video opened with poor lighting and a shaky frame.A hidden camera angle showed a private study with dark wood shelves along the walls, like a place built for secrets and long talks. Two people sat across from each other. Their words were low but clear, and their faces were partly hidden by shadows. I recognized Daniel Cross instantly, he was older than I remembered. The woman sitting opposite him took longer to recognize. Her hair was pulled back neatly, her back straight, and her hands folded in her lap, as if she were ready to be judged. When she turned her face toward the light, my ches

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 103

Serena's POVThere was something wrong with the sound that came from Damian's chest. It was not the steady rise and fall I had been hoping for. Instead, there was a thin, broken rattle that made my hands move before my mind could catch up. I leaned over him, pressing my hand on his shoulder, shaking him once, then again, harder this time. I felt scared so quickly that my breath got stuck in my throat. His skin felt colder than it should have.“Doctor,” I called out, my voice cracked as it echoed down the hall. My fingers fumbled for the call button beside the bed, pressing it again and again until the plastic broke under my grip. “Please, someone help him.” The machines around him beeped unevenly, the sound sharp and cruel in the quiet room.Footsteps rushed toward us, hurried and heavy. A nurse came in first, her face already tight with stress followed by two doctors in white coats. They moved around Damian with quick, trained hands, lifting the sheet, checking his pulse, calling ou

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 102

Serena's POVI turned back the moment Damian fell, my feet moving before my mind could catch up. There was more air in the tunnel now, and each step felt like it was pulling against me. His body lay twisted on the cold ground, blood coming fast under him. I fell beside him, my knees hitting stone, my hands already shaking as I reached for him.“Damian,” I said, my voice breaking as I slid my arms under his shoulders. His eyes opened and closed for a second as he groaned softly. His warm blood got all over my clothes and made them sticky and scary. I grabbed him and pulled him closer, as if I could keep him together by force. His breath came out in short, wet pulls, each one less strong than the last of them. He tried to smile, but his smile was rough and not very big. In a very low voice, he said, "You always... run back." I shook my head hard, and tears made everything fuzzy.“Don’t talk,” I said quickly, pressing my hand to his wound. “Save your strength.” My red, shaking hands slip

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 101

Serena's POVDamian dragged me out of the room and we ran until the air burned in my chest and the sound of gunfire faded into echoes behind us. We were sucked into the narrow, damp tunnel, whose walls felt cold against my skin. Water dripped from the ceiling in slow drops that sounded too loud in the dark. Damian kept one hand on my wrist, pulling me forward, his grip was strong but shaking all at the same time.We slowed down when the tunnel bent hard to the left and the darkness grew thicker. He pressed me gently behind a rusted pipe, then leaned out to listen. I could hear the rough pull of each breath as his chest went up and down quickly. Finally, he looked at me. His eyes were sharp with fear and something else I couldn't put my finger on.“Stay quiet,” he whispered, his voice low and tight. I nodded, my throat too dry to speak. My heart hammered against my ribs like it wanted to get out. The smell of metal and damp stone filled my nose.We waited, counting every second by the

Serena's POVThe silence that followed the Broker’s offer stretched longer than it should have, thick and watchful. I let out a small sigh of relief. It felt like the weight of what she said had settled deep inside me. I looked out the big window behind her and saw the city lights below. I felt like they held solutions. As I took each breath, my heart stayed awake and sharp.I slowly turned back to her, letting small signs of uncertainty show on my face. My fingers brushed the edge of the table, feeling its smooth surface as if grounding myself. The Broker kept her eyes on me closely, judging every feeling I showed. I knew this pause was part of the game, and I intended to play it well."This kind of power doesn't come without shadows," I said quietly, thinking about every word I said. Even though my voice sounded calm, I let a hint of stress slip through. "It takes more than money to build something big and hidden like that." Her eyes glittered with interest, exactly as I hoped they
