Kiara's POV.

I didn’t move.

Couldn’t.

His footsteps had vanished into the thick woods.

Red. His eyes turned red.

What the hell does that mean?

My mind tried to rationalize, to explain it away, some side effect of shifting? Stress? Some bloodline thing I’d never learned? But no… I’d seen shifts my whole life. I’d watched every member of my pack change under a dozen full moons. I’d never seen eyes do that.

Tonight too when everyone else was shifting, there was no trace of color change in their eyes. If there was, I could have concluded it to be a pack trait. But it wasn't.

And Hyde, he was scared. At least he looked so.

That terrified me more than anything.

I stood up, almost on instinct. My legs still shaky, my heart trying to punch its way through my ribs. I stared at the woods, hoping, stupidly that he might come back. That maybe he’d realize I deserved answers. That I needed them.

But all I got was silence.

After what felt like eternity, it was finally the early hours of the morning

Kiara's POV.The heavy steel door creaked open on a slow groan, and I stepped in.Hyde stood at the far end of the hall, shirtless, skin gleaming with sweat, knuckles bloodied from the heavy bag he’d been working like it owed him a life. His back was to me.“Didn’t I give an order?” he said, voice low and flat.“You did,” I said, stepping closer. “And I’m ignoring it.”He froze. I watched the muscles in his shoulders tense, then slowly relax.“I’m not in the mood, Kiara.”“Well, too bad,” I said, folding my arms. “Because I didn’t come here for your mood. I came here for you. And I’m not leaving without answers.”He turned to face me then. And when he did… his eyes were still normal. But everything else about him looked hollow. Torn.“You shouldn’t be here.”“I need to be here.”Our stares locked. For a moment, neither of us moved. The weight of everything unsaid crackled between us like electricity. Then he looked away.“What do you want to hear?” he said bitterly. “That I’m not who

Kiara's POV."I'd rather remain mateless, than have you as a mate," he spat, his eyes bloodshot as he stared deep into my eyes. His cold voice jolting through my spine. Devin Peoria, Beta Asher's son was my fated mate, I had expected it to be the best episode of my life, and looked forward to our mating ceremony but of course, misfortune will always find a way to knock me down a second before I could escape it."You are wolfless, you mean nothing, the moon goddess must be mistaken to pair us together " he spat. My stomach churned in despair as I feared hearing his next words, which were pretty obvious now.I could hear the faint giggles from the crowd that was starting to gather around us. "I, Devin Peoria, hereby reject you, Kiara Ezra as my mate and future Luna," he finally let the dreadful words out, sending stabs of pain through my already torn heart, slicing it into a million tiny pieces.Instantly, I felt a sharp pain shot through me, nibbling through my skin.I tried so despe

Kiara's POV."What is taking so much time? They are here already," The door flung open revealing Helene. One look at her and I broke into an uncontrollable fit of tears all over again.Helene has been my personal maid since I was a kid, and the chief maid as well. She was the only one who doesn't treat me like trash in the pack. She pushed me through the years and tried to protect me from everyone, including my father, as much as she could. Now that I'm being separated from her, what more could hurt the most? Her gaze lingered softly on me for a while before turning to the bunch of maids dressing me up. "I need a moment with her, excuse us please," Once they had shut the door behind them, she slowly traced her steps towards me, walking past and stood beside me, her hands gently lowered on my shoulders as she stared pitifully at me through the large dressing mirror in my room. "Wipe your tears child, it isn't the end of the world," I chuckled bitterly, more tears streaming down m

Kiara's POV.For several seconds I stood frozen on the spot as I stared at the most handsome man I've ever set my eyes on while I pondered over what he just said.He can't be serious right?I mean he's not the....Wait, what?"You... You are..."Hyde Montero," he quickly cut in.Oh my God.It's really him, my supposed husband."And I'm certain that you are Kiara Ezra," he added, seizing me up from my face down to the toes. I was still wallowing in confusion. If he was truly Hyde Montero then why haven't anyone ever said anything about his looks? Everyone spoke about him like he had some sort of horns on his forehead to support his demon king title. Only his heinous crimes were listed but absolutely nothing was said about his appearance, not even the tiniest little bit. I couldn't stop wondering why he appeared to be different from everything said about him, he looked a little too good looking for a devil.Well except the cold look in his eyes, the dark tides hovering around it was

Kiara's POV.Throughout the drive to Hyde's surprisingly distant kingdom, no one said a word to anyone. The silence could be sliced effortlessly with a butter knife. We had left immediately after the rites were completed. Aside the elders, none of the pack members showed up. The smile on my father's face as Hyde led me to his carriage was unexplainable. He really wanted me out so badly. I hope that one day, his resentment towards me will be backed up with a tangible clue, there has to be more to it that meets the eye. Strangely, it was beginning to seem as though Hyde and I suffered the same faith, how could he travel such long distance to wed yet no one came with him, not even a single member of his family, or the elders of his clan, His father who had agreed to the marriage wasn't in attendance too. It was just him and few of his servants and guards. Well, his situation was understandable anyway being that there was a recent rumor about him killing his brother. Who would accompa

Kiara's POV. I slowly opened my eyes to the soft morning sun that found its way into the room through the window.Somehow, I had slept so soundly, better than the past twenty years of my life.Turning around, a light sigh escaped my mouth as I realized that I was the only one on the bed, Hyde wasn't beside me.Did he not sleep in the room last night? Anyways, that shouldn't be a bother to me right? I mean having him around me makes me nervous and keeps me high on my emotions. I tried to recall the occurrence between us last night, but my memory seemed to blur most of the details out. I could only remember him offering his blood to me, but I was certain he said a few more words to me after that, why can't I seem to remember any of it? A soft knock on the door jolted me out of my trance. I quickly stood up and rushed towards the door, pulling it open to a middle aged lady standing by the door side, with a warm smile on her face. "Good morning ma'am, and welcome to diamond Ave pack,

Kiara's POV.I was shaking in fright as I held onto him tightly, I felt him suddenly go stiff for a moment. My hands around him were slowly slipping off, he was sweating profusely making his body slippery for me to grasp. I was going to fall.Surprisingly, he raised his hands slowly upwards and wrapped them around my waist, I could swore I stopped breathing for a minute, Hyde had his hands on my waist? But then, my excitement was short lived as he carefully carried me down and made me stand on my feet.I had expected him to walk out of the house at that point, since he was almost soaked with blood, he had a cut on his forehead which was bleeding slightly.Instead , I watched him stagger to a corner of the living room and sat, his head rested on the wall, breathing heavily.I could still feel the anger boiling in him furiously. I couldn't stop wondering how someone could be so short tempered. My eyes drifted to the cut on the corner of his face, the bleeding was intensifying.I thought

Kiara's POV.The first thing I noticed when my eyes fluttered open was the dim, hue of the evening light spilling through the large windows into the room. For a moment, I laid still, confused about how long I had been asleep. My body felt too well-rested, my limbs loose as though I had slept for an entire day.I turned to the other side of the enormous bed, expecting to see Hyde’s cold form. But he wasn’t there.Isn't it a mystery how I never wake to him in the bed? Or this isn't his room as well? Does he wait for me to be deep asleep before escaping to his own room?I sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I surveyed the grand bedroom. The heavy curtains swayed lightly from the evening breeze. Hyde was nowhere to be found. The space he occupied on the bed was still neat, untouched, as if he hadn’t been there at all.A heavy sigh escaped my lips. It was the oddest thing.. how his silence loomed, yet the absence of it made the room feel colder.Needing to move, I stood up and

Kiara's POV.The tears had stopped, but the ache hadn’t.I sat there, my knees hugged to my chest, as the moon’s reflection moved in the rippling stream like it was mocking me. The night was quiet now. The kind of quiet that lets your thoughts get louder. I hated that part the most. When your mind starts replaying every word, every stare, every truth you’ve tried to bury. She’s not one of us. She doesn’t even shift. They weren’t wrong.I’d tried to tell myself they didn’t matter, that I didn’t need their approval. But tonight, surrounded by a pack that was transforming under the full moon while I sat on the outside, I had never felt smaller.Eventually, I pushed myself up, limbs stiff, heart heavier than before. I shuffled over to the wooden bench near the water’s edge and sat, closing my eyes and breathed in the scent of earth and water.Maybe just five minutes, I told myself. Just a moment to feel like I’m not falling apart. And for a moment, I did feel safe.Until something moved

Kiara's POVThe evening was in full bloom and I was alone in the room.It was beginning to get suffocating, repeating the same process of the day always. So I decided to step out.The cold evening breeze washed over me and for the first time in what felt like days, I felt alive again. But I hadn’t walked more than a few yards before I noticed something strange.Everyone… was rushing. The streets, usually lazy and slow this time of day, were suddenly buzzing. Everyone hurrying in the same direction. Warriors. Mates. Even the older omegas who never left the kitchens. I paused, watching as people poured out of homes and buildings, heading toward the heart of the woods.Where were they going?A maid, Mila, I think her name was... brushed past me, nearly tripping on her hem.“Mila!” I called out, jogging to catch up.She turned, flushed and breathless, clearly in a rush.“My lady, oh, you're not ready yet?” she asked, confused.“Ready for what?” I frowned. Her brows shot up like I’d just t

Kiara's POV.It was past noon, and the house's still silence all over the house was so suffocating, I wanted to scream. The quiet wasn’t peaceful, it was stifling. The kind of silence that seeps into your bones and makes every creak of the floor, every tick of the clock, every rustle of fabric feel too loud. I had been alone since Hyde slammed the door behind him last night, storming out of his training hall. Since he decided, again that the best way to deal with our disagreements was to run.And this time, he ran to them. His mistresses. His pretty little distractions. His poisonous comforts. Women who didn’t ask questions, didn’t make demands, didn’t fight back when his anger rose like a storm tide. Women who didn’t care about him, not the way I did, not the way that demanded truth. My fingers were tangled in my hair, half heartedly trying to make sense of the chaos there, but I kept losing focus. I sat on the large dressing chair in our bedroom, before the mirror. I hadn't opened

The door clicked shut behind him as Valerie practically ran out, but Hyde didn’t move. The room felt hollow, too quiet, too still. His heartbeat loud enough that he could hear them in his ears, louder than the muted music outside or the whisper of voices from the hallway as the quarter party continued. He stood there, his back pressed against the wood, trying to collect the pieces of whatever was left of him after that encounter. His knuckles still ached from how hard he’d gripped her wrist. Shame prickled the back of his neck. He hadn’t meant to hurt Valerie... not really... but he also hadn’t expected his emotions to boil over like that. Rage, guilt, confusion… it all clawed at him.He ran a hand over his face, exhaling slowly, the weight of his choices pressing harder than ever. This place that once felt like his pleasure pack away from his worries, now it felt like a crypt, each memory layered with dust and regret. The lavish couch by the window, the half drunk bottle of scotch

Hyde fumed with anger and frustration as he stormed through the hallways of the quarters. The building was familiar, holding the memories of far too many nights spent in the same disarrayed state... fueled by anger, by tension, or even crave for pleasure. It was his last resort; it was where men like him went when the world weighed too heavily on their shoulders and needed a night of pleasure and ecstasy. The last time he had walked these halls, it had been under vastly different circumstances, with a sense of triumph and freedom that came knowing he wouldn't be back. Because he was getting married and the last thing he wanted was to cause her pain by cheating with his other mistresses. But it seemed that was too much sacrifice for her. Tonight, he was ready to feed his beast, it's been a long while anyway. And what better way to do that than with Valerie? the woman who had once held a place in his life... who had once known the touch of his lips, his hands, and the dark corners

Kiara's POV.The bed was empty when I reached out.Hyde wasn’t there.I blinked against the early morning light filtering through the curtains.I sat up slowly, the draw of sleep still in my eyes. The room felt too quiet without him in it. I glanced toward the door, hoping maybe he’d just stepped out for water... or something. But no. He was gone.Again.I sighed, dragging myself out of bed, and headed into the bathroom, starting the bath without much thought. The steam was warm against my skin offering relaxation, but my mind was already pacing like a restless animal.Where had he gone? After last night… I didn’t expect him to vanish like that. Not without a word.I sank into the tub and tried to push the unease out of my lungs. He needed space, I told myself. That was who he was. But still. The way he’d looked at me..touched me. That hadn’t felt like something you walked away from without a trace. When I got out, the maids had already arrived. I must’ve been in the bath longer than

Kiara's POV. I was already half asleep when I heard the room door creak open.At first, I didn’t move. Just laid there, covered in the sheets. then I stirred slightly to check who it was, and my breath caught in my throat.Hyde.Something in the way the atmosphere in the room moved when he entered. I sat up slowly, pushing the covers off. The room was a bit dark, but I could still make out his face. I slowly sat up, my gaze fixed on him. He didn’t say anything. Just stood there my heart skipped a beat when I sighted blood crusting over his knuckles like dried paint.“Hyde,” I breathed. He didn’t even look up. His shoulders were rigid, his coat hung open, and his hands… gods, his hands.I didn’t ask right away. I didn’t say anything else. I just turned, walked into the bathroom, and ran the water.I found one of the smaller towels, soaked it through, wrung it out, and came back.He still hadn’t moved.“You’re dripping on the floor,” I murmured, gently. That got his attention. He f
