ログインLori's POV
"You will be starting immediately as the team's medic. I will give you our training schedules." He paused and met my eyes from across the breakfast table. "I'm sure you're already well aware of it, but for formality sake." His cutlery barely made any noise on his plate. "Don't be late. Don't show any weakness, and don't expect us to walk in there as a couple."
I stared at Dante across the breakfast table, and the food in my mouth tasted like I was eating paper. Two weeks had passed since the wedding and I had been rotting away in this mansion with him, recuperating too and having the doctors brought her for my antenatal. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was now married to a billionaire weeks after I got humiliated by my mate.
"I'm not expecting you to hold my hand," I said quietly, poking at my eggs. "I just want to know why you want to put me in the same building with Silas and the team members after what he did to me. After the world has gotten the wrong impression of me."
"I thought you said you wanted revenge." A wry smile came over his serene face. "How will you be able to do that if you continue hiding yourself away in this mansion," he stabbed another egg with his fork and brought it to his mouth, chewing slowly. "How will you take revenge on anyone when you can't stand in front of them for even a second." He held my gaze fleetingly. "You need to learn to face them without breaking. Consider this training."
"Training." I laughed bitterly. "You're throwing me at the wolves and calling it training."
"If I'm throwing you there, it means I'm expecting and trusting you to bite back." Finally, he looked at me. "You're a healer, Lori, and the team needs a medic, and you're qualified. More qualified than the last three I've hired. So... Do the job and earn their respect."
"And if I can't handle it?" My hands trembled slightly. "What if..."
"Then you'll tell me, and I'll handle it for you." His voice dropped. "But I don't think you'll need me to. I've seen what you have survived, Lori." He managed to give me a smile. "A few hostile hockey players aren't going to be what takes you down."
I wanted to argue. I wanted to tell him that seeing Silas and Janie together would reopen wounds that hadn't even begun to heal. But Dante had already stood up, grabbing his keys.
"The car leaves at seven, don't be late."

The arena looked different during the day, and the only familiar thing was the sound of the pucks hitting boards on the rink.
I walked through the players' tunnel with my medical bag clutched to my chest, my heart hammering so hard I was sure everyone could hear it.
I found the medical office easily enough. It was a small room that wasn't so far from the locker room, and was stocked with everything a healer could need. I was organizing supplies when I heard their voices.
"Is that her?"
They didn't try to keep their voice down, but made sure I heard every single thing.
"That's definitely her. The Omega who cheated on Cap."
"What the hell is she doing here?"
I turned to find three players standing in the doorway. I recognized them from the championship game. They were Silas' linemates and one of them was his closest friend.
"I'm the new team medic," I said, I tried to force a smile but it didn't reach my eyes. I wouldn't break in front of these players. "If you have any injuries or concerns, I'll be handling them from now on."
"You've got to be kidding me." The tallest one stepped forward with disbelief written all over his face. "Our coach hired you? After what you did to Silas?"
"Silas is the one who publicly rejected me and claimed my best friend on the same night," I said quietly. "But I'm not here to discuss my personal life. I'm here to do my job."
"Your job." The defenseman laughed. "Your job is spreading your legs, isn't it? That's what the whole world saw on that screen. You're pretty talented at that job, from what I could tell..." He was leering as he made his way towards me.
"That's enough."
The voice came from behind us, and I watched as all their spines went rigid.
Dante.
He stepped into the doorway, and the temperature in the room dropped ten degrees. All their ego seemed to disappear with the presence of their new coach.
"Coach, we were just..." The first player who had gotten close was stammering and trying to explain himself.
"I heard exactly what you were doing." Dante's voice was cold. "Let me make something perfectly clear to all of you. Lori is a certified healer with more medical training than anyone who's held this position before. She's here to keep you healthy on the ice. Anyone who brings their personal feelings into this facility and uses them to harass a staff member will be benched for the rest of the season. If it happens again, you're off the team permanently. And you should know I don't give second chances."
The players stared at him, and I could see them shaking under his cold stare, and I knew this was beyond the fact that he was their captain. Dante seemed to be someone who was more than just that.
"Does anyone have questions about this policy?" Dante asked, but they all shook their heads immediately. "Then, get dressed because practice starts in ten." He waited until they scattered before turning to me. "Are you all right?"
"I'm fine." That was a lie because my hands were shaking. But I wasn't going to admit that. "You didn't have to do that."
"Yes, I did. This is my facility. My team, and I don't tolerate harassment." He paused. "But I won't always be around to fight your battles. The sooner you make your voice the loudest here, the better."
"I..." I swallowed. "I will try."
He wasn't looking at me anymore, but something behind me, and I wished I hadn't followed his gaze to look beyond the window where the ice rink was visible from here.
"And you should know how to handle that too..." He said slowly before turning to leave, and I was rooted to the spot, my chest caving in as I watched Silas locking lips fiercely with Janie.
Lori Steward*Three Months Later*"Well, Good news, Mrs. Dominic, you and your child are very much healthy and free to be discharged!" Dr. Israel said with a big smile on his face. "And this... This has been a miracle that even I couldn't believe was possible."My eyes were filled with tears of relief. At long last... After Renée had lied to us about the real location of the antidote, I thought my life was over. I had already given up and let the moon goddess decide my fate. The doctors called it a miracle. They used words like "remarkable" and "unprecedented" and "full recovery." They showed us scans of my liver, my kidneys, the baby growing strong and healthy in my womb. They smiled and shook their heads in wonder, as if they couldn't quite believe what they were seeing. I couldn't believe it either. The poison was gone. The antidote, whatever it contained, had neutralized every trace, repaired every damaged cell, and had given me a second chance at life. And the baby... our baby...
Lori StewardThe prison was cold when I entered that I had to wrap my arms around myself to cover. And I realised it wasn't because of the air conditioning, but also because it was filled with metal bars and my footsteps echoed down the long corridor."Are you really sure you want to do this?" Dante asked for the umpteenth time, and I nodded in response."You've asked me already a thousand times." I told him. "Can you believe in me just this once? You've been the one stressing yourself and making most of the decisions, and putting yourself in harm's way just to keep the family safe. Allow me to do this, just this once...""But what if..." He sounded exasperated. "I don't just trust Renée, you know. She could do something. She could...""She will be in cuffs, Dante. What will she be able to do to me? Absolutely nothing. Everywhere is guarded. You're here and the prison wardens are everywhere. There's no way she would try something stupid."That seemed to make him relax, and he pressed
Lori StewardLuca's temperature came down early in the morning, and I could finally take a deep breath. It has spiked at night, sending everyone into panic, but by the time the sun rose, the antibiotics that were administered finally did their work, and I was sitting beside him while waiting for the results of the new tests that had been run.Dante stood by my side, massaging my shoulders while admonishing me and telling me everything would be okay. Not long after, the door opened and the doctor walked in with a test result in hand. I breathed slowly in relief that the expression on her face wasn't grim."It was just a simple fever, Mr. and Mrs. Dominic." Her face softened with relief. "Nothing to do with the poison. His immune system is just slightly compromised from the stress of recent events. With good rest and medication, he'll be back to normal within a week."I felt my entire body sag with relief, and I was glad that Dante was here all along to slide his arm around my waist to
JanieTheir first mistake was putting me in the hospital's holding cell while they prepared Silas for the surgery. They didn't want to risk having me escape on the way to the station, and they decided to keep me in here. I felt annoyed and irritated at the same time because what did they think they were doing? Who did they think I was? Had they forgotten I was still a werewolf and they left me with these humans? Humans so weak I could snap their head off if I tried a little hard. Didn't Silas remember that I was also one of the top warriors while Lori was playing house with him all in the name of being mated to him? What a joke! Fools. All of them.I tested the cuffs again, feeling the give in the chain that connected them to the chair. It was old, rusty and weak. And weakness meant I had a real opportunity. The guard outside my door was a young man, barely out of his teens. He had been assigned to watch me through the night, and he was already bored... I could hear him scrolling thr
Silas CraneI sat with my face in my hands, my back pressed against the wall of the hospital."Well, fuck." Patrick slid down beside me, with his hands in his pocket. "There's just a lot going on in Lori's life. I wonder how she's faring..."Yeah... Lori was the one who took the biggest hit from all these, and it started from me, to not protecting her, and now... her daughter. When was this all going to stop? I thought more to the moon goddess than myself. What had she gotten wrong to deserve this kind of treatment?"She's so quiet and peaceful though... And she has your nose as well." Patrick whispered, and I lifted my head to watch my daughter who was currently sleeping peacefully in her city with a stuffed rabbit loosely clutched in her tiny fist.A warm smile spread across my face as I stared at my little bundle. "Yeah.. she does." I whispered back, wishing I could just carry her into my arms and hold her, but she had just gotten to sleep five minutes ago after fussing around unco
JanieI ran until my lungs and my legs burned, but Silas still bounded behind me in wolf form. If it wasn't for the fact that I knew these trails like the back of my hand, I would have been caught by now.No. No. No.... This couldn't be it for me. I had everything planned out. I was just this close to winning. How could everything just change in a blink of an eye? Where did I go wrong? What gave me away? The phone was untraceable. So... What???"Janie!!!" Silas bellowed from the treeline. "Give up now and come with me.""So what? You'll kill me finally?" I shouted back, gasping for breath after my lungs stretched itself out. "Not if I can help it. I will kill you first and each and every one of you that has taken something from me!""No one has taken anything from you Janie. You're the one who is taking things from people, and you know it. You just like playing the victim when things don't go your way. You just derive joy in having a victim mentality! You think you can hide behind tha
Lori's POV "I'll need you to carefully read the terms and conditions of the contract before you sign it." He slipped the document on the hospital bed where I was having my breakfast. "I don't do second chances."His voice was hard and cold the same way it had been last night, and he towered over m
Lori's POV "My children, oh my goodness. Are they... Are they...?" I sat up immediately, my hands moving around my belly, trying to see if I was feeling any pain there, if they were fine, if they were—"Your babies are fine, ma'am. Which is a miraculous thing after all your body has been through."
Lori's POV"Stone the whore! She defiled the Alpha's bed!"Someone from the crowd roared in anger, and everyone else follows until over a hundred thousand werewolves were changing it. I was still on my knees, clutching my chest in pain from the searing pain of Silas' rejection when the first rock h
Lori's POV"I'm pregnant, Lori." Janie's voice was barely above a whisper, and I spun around in shock, my heart already swelling with joy for my best friend."Janie! Oh my goddess!" I rushed across the VIP suite and threw my arms around her, squeezing tight. "That's incredible! I'm so happy for you
