Lori's POV

"My children, oh my goodness. Are they... Are they...?" I sat up immediately, my hands moving around my belly, trying to see if I was feeling any pain there, if they were fine, if they were—

"Your babies are fine, ma'am. Which is a miraculous thing after all your body has been through." I heard a voice from beside me, and even if I didn't know who the person speaking was, I felt the relief spread across my chest immediately.

That was when I started to feel every other pain as memories of the championship night flooded my memories. My heart ached with a hole so deep that Silas created from the rejection. It ached so hard that tears spilled from the corners of my eyes, and I knew I shouldn't be focused on that.

My babies were fine, that was all that mattered. They were fine, healthy, and not killed by the pack that was supposed to protect them. Everywhere was still dark, and it wasn't long before I realized my eyes were still closed, even as I tried checking on my babies. How was I able to do that?

I forced my eyes open and I was met with a strange environment. I knew at once that this was a hospital room, but it didn't look like it belonged to any pack. Packs usually had murals of wolves on the walls, but there was nothing like that, and I could only come to one conclusion... This was a human hospital.

"Where…" I tried to sit up, but a firm hand pressed me back down.

"Don't move. You've been unconscious for eighteen hours. Your body needs rest."

I turned my head toward the voice and found myself staring at Dante Dominic. He sat in a chair beside my bed, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, looking like he had just stepped out of a business meeting rather than the hockey game from the championship night. His expression was unreadable.

"How did I get here?" I whispered.

"Through my jet and car," he said it calmly and there was no air of arrogance around him. "I brought you to the hospital so the doctors can take a good look at you." He leaned back and folded his arms across his thick chest. "I don't think any of the packs would have helped you after the rejection." I winced at the memory of the rejection. "They benefit a lot from Silas' games, and they wouldn't want to make an enemy out of him, that's why you're here. You're welcome, by the way."

"Why?" The question came out harsher than I intended. "Why would you help me? You don't know me. We've never even spoken before."

"Because you were dying on a loading dock behind my arena, and I'm not in the habit of letting pregnant women bleed out in the trash." His voice was flat devoid of emotions. "And because I have a proposition for you."

"A proposition?" My attention piqued.

Dante reached into his jacket and pulled out a stack of papers and placed them gently on the bed beside me. I didn't touch them. I just stared at him, trying to understand what kind of person could look so calm while discussing the wreckage of someone else's life.

"What is this?" My voice was barely a whisper now as I stared at the stack of papers warily.

"You've been publicly rejected," he said. "Stripped of your pack, your title, your mate, and every possession you ever owned. You have no family, no friends, no money, and definitely no place to go. If you walk out of this hospital right now, you'll be homeless, pregnant, and alone in a world where your deepest trauma was broadcast to millions of people."

My body trembled slightly at the fact that he wasn't wrong at all.

"The way I see it, you have two options. Option one: you leave, struggle, and probably lose those babies before the year is out. Option two:" He gestured at the papers. "You marry me."

The words didn't make sense. I waited for him to laugh, to say it was a joke and that he was working for Silas to mock me, but his expression remained deadly serious.

"Marry you?" I finally managed. "You don't even know me."

"I know that you know how to be the perfect wife, and hiunsoent years being one to a man who never deserved you." He leaned forward slowly that his frame filled my vision, and my breath hitched. "And I know you want revenge." His eyes met mine. "Am I wrong?"

I couldn't answer because he wasn't wrong. Even through the grief and the shock, that word had been burning in the back of my mind since the moment Silas called me damaged goods.

Revenge.

"What's in it for you?" I asked. "People like you don't do things out of the kindness of their hearts."

"That's correct." He didn't even try to pretend to hide it as he stood and walked to the window, his back to me. "I need a wife. My parents have been pressuring me for years to settle down and produce heirs. I need someone to play the part... attend events, smile for the cameras, and most importantly, give them grandchildren."

"You want me to be your… broodmare?" I almost laughed despite my situation.

"I want a contractual arrangement that benefits both of us." He turned back to face me. "You need protection, first of all, for your survival. And you'll also be needing the resources to take your revenge. I need a wife and children to get my family off my back. The fact that you're already pregnant is… convenient. We don't need to go through any more stress."

I stared at him in shock, my jaw dropping. "You want to claim my babies as yours?"

He turned around and nodded. "Yes, Lori. I'll raise them as my own, give them my name, make sure they are well taken care of and protected." He stopped in front of me, and the coldness in his eyes was back. "And when the time is right, I'll help you destroy Silas Crane in whatever way you see fit." He gave me a long look. "So, what do you say? Or do you need more time to think about it?”

Lori's POV Today's training session started earlier than usual, and I was doing my usual organisation of supplies when I felt the first wave of nausea hit me. The morning sickness was getting unbearable these days, and it came at the worst possible moments, sometimes whenever I was actively stitching a wound or trying to rush a player to the sick bay.Today's own came just as inconvenient as before and I found myself rushing to the bathroom in time, ignoring the pointed looks by the player's girlfriends and wives. The door was barely closed before I was on my knees, heaving into the toilet bowl, my body rebelling against everything I had eaten last night—which wasn't much, just that piece of chocolate cake and a few sips of soup, but apparently my babies had decided that even that was too much to keep down. I stayed there for a long time, breathing through my mouth, sweat beading on my forehead, and when I finally stood up and rinsed my mouth at the sink, I caught a glimpse of myself

Lori's POVSilence filled the room instantly, and I had hug myself to keep my feelings under control because Dante's words had been so cold and devoid of any form of emotion. Silas' face morphed between shock to a series of emotions I couldn't name.Dante's words carried so much weight because everyone knew that Silas was the most favoured player on the team, and Dante talking so seriously about having him removed and training someone else... it was so unexpected."I said..." Dante, who hadn't taken notice of how quiet the room had gone, moved menacingly towards Silas, his eyes blazing with a kind of heat I have never seen before, the gaze made Silas, an Alpha, to flinch and look submissive under Dante. "You only have two choices here, Silas. It's either you let her treat you, or you bleed and die on this table and our lives will go on without you. This team will survive without you. And your pack will suffer heavily because this games has been your source of income to feed your peopl

  • Rejected By The Hockey Captain, Claimed By His Coach    Chapter 7– Then Die

Lori's POVI couldn't stop thinking about him, even after practice was over and we went back home in separate cars. And every time his face came up at the back of my mind, I always felt my heart racing for no reason at all. Maybe there was a reason... Maybe it was because of the memory of his finger on my throat, his lips brushing my ear, and the teasing comment he made about making love to me not minding that I was... pregnant. But he was joking, I had to remind myself that to ground me to reality. Men like Dante Dominic didn't look twice at women like me— pregnant, rejected, broken. He was testing me. Or mocking you. Or both. But it didn't matter how many times I repeated it to myself because my body didn't seem to believe me.Now it was a new day, and I was back at the arena, and my mind was still on him. Not just my mind, but my eyes. It made me wonder why I hadn't really noticed much about him while I was with Silas. I watched him coaching the players with early morning drills, a

Lori's POV I stood there like a fool with my heart cracking open all over again, watching Silas press Janie against the boards of the rink like she was the only woman in the world who had ever mattered to him, his hands roaming the swell of her hips while her fingers tangled in his hair, and I felt that familiar sting behind my eyes that I had promised myself I wouldn't give in to anymore... but there it was anyway, a single tear slipping down my cheek before I could even think to wipe it away."You're crying."I flinched at the sound of Dante's voice, and I remembered that he was behind me all these while. When I turned to stare at him, his gaze was already locked intensely on me."I'm not crying..." I said in a small voice. "Looking at them hurts, yes." I told him honestly, "but to cry for him? Never again.""It hurts..." he murmured at that and took a step closer to me, close enough that his cologne seeped into my nose.My eyes unconsciously looked up to meet his. He was so tall t

Lori's POV "You will be starting immediately as the team's medic. I will give you our training schedules." He paused and met my eyes from across the breakfast table. "I'm sure you're already well aware of it, but for formality sake." His cutlery barely made any noise on his plate. "Don't be late. Don't show any weakness, and don't expect us to walk in there as a couple." I stared at Dante across the breakfast table, and the food in my mouth tasted like I was eating paper. Two weeks had passed since the wedding and I had been rotting away in this mansion with him, recuperating too and having the doctors brought her for my antenatal. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was now married to a billionaire weeks after I got humiliated by my mate."I'm not expecting you to hold my hand," I said quietly, poking at my eggs. "I just want to know why you want to put me in the same building with Silas and the team members after what he did to me. After the world has gotten

Lori's POV "I'll need you to carefully read the terms and conditions of the contract before you sign it." He slipped the document on the hospital bed where I was having my breakfast. "I don't do second chances."His voice was hard and cold the same way it had been last night, and he towered over me with a pen in his hand, looking like he hadn't slept a wink last night. I, on the other hand, had also barely closed my eyes. I spent the entire night thinking about my chances and what this could mean for me. I read the lines of the contract, muttering the words slowly under my breath, and getting shocked the more I read forward."...no falling in love."I expected that particular clause."...the marriage remains a secret until Dante agrees otherwise."Also not too much for me to handle."...Dante assumes full legal and financial responsibility for the children."Now, that was the clause that shocked me. I wasn't expecting any of this. Dante was going to claim Silas' children as his own?
