~~WARD~~

I couldn’t sleep or be at peace.

I sat in my car outside Aria’s apartment building, the seat pushed back, darkness pressing in from all sides. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles hurt.

Every few minutes I checked my phone again, trying to track that unknown number, but it was pointless. Whoever this was, they were always one step ahead.

Fear sat heavy in my stomach like a rock. What if something happened to her tonight? What if I left and the worst occurred? I rubbed my tired eyes, my chest tight with worry. I had been here for hours, watching her window like a shadow.

My body ached from the long day, my hip throbbed, but none of that mattered. Only Aria mattered.

Then my phone buzzed and my heart stopped for a second. I opened the message with shaking fingers.

The photo hit me like a knife to the chest.

Aria was in her bedroom. She was slowly pulling off her dress, the soft fabric sliding down her shoulders and back as she got ready for sleep. She looked so tired, so vulnerable, completely unaware that someone was watching her.

Terror exploded inside me. My breath caught. My hands started trembling so badly that I almost dropped the phone. Someone was in her apartment right now. Watching her undress. My mind went blank with fear.

I didn’t think much and just jumped out of the car and ran. Pain shot through my hip with every step, but I didn’t care. I dashed up the stairs, heart pounding wildly, fear choking me. I reached her door and banged on it hard with my fist.

“Aria! Open the door! Please!” The door flew open.

Aria stood there in a thin, silky nightdress that barely reached her thighs. Her hair was loose and messy, her eyes wide with shock and anger. She looked beautiful and fragile at the same time, and the sight made my heart twist painfully.

Chapter 7 (Re-edited)

Ward Bennett

I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t even close my eyes.

I sat in my car outside Aria’s apartment building, the seat pushed back, darkness pressing in from all sides. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles hurt. Every few minutes I checked my phone again, trying to track that unknown number, but it was useless. Blocked. Hidden.

Then my phone buzzed.

My heart stopped for a second.

I didn’t think. I jumped out of the car and ran. Pain shot through my hip with every step, but I didn’t care. I dashed up the stairs, heart pounding wildly, fear choking me. I reached her door and banged on it hard with my fist.

“Aria! Open the door! Please!”

The door flew open.

Aria stood there in a thin, silky nightdress that barely reached her thighs. Her hair was loose and messy, her eyes wide with shock and anger.

Before she could speak, I gently pushed her aside and stepped inside, my eyes scanning the living room desperately for any sign of an intruder or hidden camera.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” she shouted, her voice shaking with rage. “Why are you barging into my apartment in the middle of the night? Why are you rambling around my apartment like a madman?”

I didn’t answer and kept moving, checking behind the couch, near the windows, my heart racing as I searched for anything suspicious. I couldn’t speak. The fear had stolen my words.

That silence made her even angrier.

“Ward I am talking to you!” she yelled out and this made me pause.

“Are you sure you are safe in this place?” I asked and she scoffed:

“You ruined my life once already!” she let out as she stepped closer

“Now you show up here acting like some hero? You’re disgusting. Get the hell out of my apartment!”

Her words cut deep into my chest. Each one hurt more than the last. Pain spread through me like fire. I stood there, breathing hard, guilt and love mixing with the fear already choking me. I deserved every harsh word, but it still broke something inside me.

“Get out right now,” she said coldly, pointing at the door. “Or I am calling the cops. And if you don’t leave, I will tell them you tried to assault me and scream it loud enough for the whole building to hear. You think your money will save you? One accusation and your career will be gone. Don’t test me.”

The threat hit me hard. I knew she meant it. The pain in my chest grew heavier. I wanted so badly to tell her everything the threats, the photo, the danger. But I couldn’t.

I nodded slowly, my shoulders heavy with defeat. “Okay… I am leaving.”

I turned and walked out. The moment she slammed the door and locked it behind me, my phone buzzed again.

Another photo.

It was me standing inside her apartment just seconds ago.

My blood turned to ice. My legs felt weak. This person had been watching the whole time. My hands shook as I stared at the screen.

Then the new message appeared again.

Unknown: You can’t tell her. If you do, her illness will trigger again. You remember the panic attacks, the hospital, and how she almost broke completely last time. Tell her the truth and watch her fall apart. Stay quiet if you want her to stay safe.

The phone nearly fell from my hand. I felt weak all over. My knees almost gave out and I knew I couldn’t risk that. Not when she had finally become strong.

I turned back toward her door, fist raised to knock… but I stopped.

I couldn’t tell her.

The fear paralyzed me. I walked down the stairs slowly, my body feeling heavy and broken. The terror was worse now.

I got back into my car, but I didn’t drive away. I stayed right there, watching her window, my heart filled with worry, guilt, and helplessness.

~~ARIA~~I stirred awake slowly, a sharp ache throbbing through my head as though a hammer was striking against my skull. The room was silent, save for the gentle hum of the air conditioner. I blinked several times, struggling to gather my thoughts and figure out where I was. This wasn’t my apartment. The sheets felt too soft, the pillows too plush, and the faint scent of expensive cologne lingered in the air.I sat up quickly, my heart racing. I was in a large, luxurious bedroom. The bed was massive, with dark wood furniture and soft lighting from the windows. My eyes widened in shock as it trailed to the center table near the bed, there was a beautiful breakfast spread, a fresh fruit salad with strawberries, blueberries, and mango slices stacked Next to it was a note in neat handwriting: “Eat something. You will feel better…. W”My stomach twisted at once, Ward.I looked down at myself and froze. I was only in my bralette and matching tight shorts. A new set of outfits was folde

~~WARD~~This was my fault. If I hadn’t forced my way back into her life, none of this would be happening. The threats, the gifts, the danger everything followed me like a shadow.I slid into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and pulled out of the parking lot. My hands gripped the wheel so tightly my knuckles whitened. Even though I had had a few drinks earlier, the adrenaline had burned most of it off. Still, I drove carefully, eyes fixed on the road while stealing glances at Aria every few seconds.“Aria…” I called softly, staring at her. It's been a while since I have seen her this way and I really can't explain how my heart is feeling right now.She stirred, her voice slurred and weak. “Why… Why are you always there? I told you to leave me alone…”Her words cut my heart so deep, but I deserved every one. I swallowed the burn in my throat. “I know… but I couldn’t leave you like that…. I hate seeing you with other guys..” I replied even though I am pretty sure she might not h

~~ARIA~~The doorbell rang loudly, through the silence of my apartment. I was still in my robe, with my hair messy, staring at my reflection in the mirror with tired eyes. I hadn’t planned on going out tonight. After the hospital drama and everything with Ward, I just wanted to stay home, curl up on the couch, and forget the world. But the doorbell rang again, more insistently this time.I walked to the door and opened it.Lena stood there, already dressed to kill. She wore a short red dress that hugged her figure perfectly, her hair styled in loose waves, and makeup that made her eyes pop. She looked amazing, confident, energetic, and ready for anything.“Surprise!” she shrieked, grinning widely, holding up a small bag. “Girls’ night is happening whether you like it or not. You have been too stressed lately so you need this.”I blinked at her confused, “Lena, I am not really in the mood…”“Nope!” She pushed past me into the apartment, closing the door behind her. “I already picked

~~WARD~~I sat on the cold treatment table, staring at the white wall in front of me. Dr. Matthews moved around me with his efficiency, applying gel to my hip and pressing the ultrasound wand against my skin. The pressure was exactly what it should be. But everything felt wrong since it wasn’t Aria’s touch. Her hands had always been gentle but firm, knowing exactly where the pain hid. Now, every movement from Dr. Matthews felt foreign. My chest tightened with a deep, aching sadness that made it hard to breathe. I clenched my jaw and looked down at my hands, the fresh bruise on my knuckles still visible from when I had hit the steering wheel last night.“You are responding well, Mr. Bennett,” Dr. Matthews said calmly. “We will continue with the same protocol. Ice it tonight and avoid heavy loading.”I nodded without looking at him. The moment he finished and left the room, I let out a long, shaky breath. I rubbed my face with both hands, pressing my palms hard against my eyes until

~~ARIA~~I stood in the hospital treatment room early that morning, my hands steady even though my mind was not. I had made my decision last night after hours of thinking. I couldn’t keep treating Ward. Not after everything that had happened, I needed a lot of distance from him.Dr. Matthews, one of the senior team physicians, stood beside me as I reviewed Ward’s file.“I am handing Mr. Bennett’s case over to you,” I said clearly. “His hip injury is chronic. Significant inflammation, limited range of motion, and he had been pushing through pain for weeks. He needs daily ultrasound therapy, ice protocols, and some strength exercises. Avoid heavy loading for at least ten days. He also has fresh bruising on his right fist that he refuses to explain. Monitor that closely.”Dr. Matthews nodded, taking the file. “Understood. Any personal notes I should know?”I hesitated for a second. “Just keep it strictly professional. He’s… complicated.”I left the room before Ward arrived for his sessi

~~ARIA~~The hospital corridor felt endless as my shoes clicked against the shiny floor as I walked toward Ward’s private room, my medical bag heavy on my shoulder. I didn’t want to be here. After yesterday’s crazy act from Ward, the last thing I needed was to see Ward again. But the team’s General Manager had called me personally this morning. Ward had collapsed during a light practice session after pushing his injured hip too hard. They wanted me here immediately because “Mr. Bennett is our most valuable player right now.”I hated how my heart still raced at the thought of him. I hated that a small part of me felt worried after getting the news.I stopped outside his door, took a deep breath, and pushed it open.Ward was sitting up in the hospital bed, shirtless, with monitors attached to his chest. His face was pale, and dark circles sat heavily under his eyes. The bruise on his cheek from where I slapped him yesterday was still visible, a faint red mark that made my stomach twi
