My heart sank as his hurtful words echoed in my ears, leaving behind a lingering pain. It was unimaginable to think that my own brother would choose a stranger over me, someone he barely knew. The embarrassment of being dragged out into the open only added fuel to the fire of anger that was already burning inside me.
