VENUS

We move toward Rimi’s bed once Mallory walks away. The girl’s propped up by pillows, sipping on soup with a shaky hand but managing a tired smile.

“Hey,” Sydney greets softly, sitting at the edge of the bed.

“You’re awake,” Alex adds with obvious relief. “You gave us a scare.”

“I should be the one thanking you,” Rimi says, her voice raspy. “I heard… you saved me?” I don’t miss the light blush on her pale face as her gaze lands on Alex.

She really has a crush on him.

“I’m glad we could. It was scary as fuck,” I say and Rimi chuckles faintly.

“I don’t remember anything.” She frowns, gaze dropping to her blanket. “Just darkness. Like I was dreaming. The next thing I knew… I was here.”

“Do you remember how you got to the forest clearing?” Sydney asks.

Rimi shakes her head. “The last thing I remember is working in the packhouse kitchen. The rest is a blur.” She says in a soft voice, her gaze focused on the blanket. She’s trying hard to remember what happened that night.
