Chapter 5

_Jake's Pov

I stood on the terrace of the packed building watching as members of the pack gathered to hear what punishment would be given to Sarah. I wasn't but my wolf was very excited to see that we'd stopped her from being hit. My wolf keeps arguing with me that she was innocent and wouldn't even dare disrespect my father.

Joe had walked up to me yesterday and informed me about the forfeit my father had pronounced. "He was still going to punish her?" I asked him since I thought everything would end yesterday. I couldn't imagine my father would still want to chastise her again.

"He said she disrespected him." Joe proclaimed.

I turned to him and asked, "How? How did she disrespect him?"

"He asked her some questions but she didn't respond to him," Joe said and I could feel my eyes turn dark, my claws forcing themselves to come out. I knew my wolf was at it again.

"Was that why he declared another punishment?" I growled and Joe nodded, "He can't be joking. To hell, she was looking too weak to say a word."

"Calm down, Jake, the King wouldn't like it if you interfere whereas, she's no more your mate again, I hope you keep yourself out of this." He warned and I howled at him, causing him to move back.

"My father won't do anything to harm her!" I screeched fighting my wolf not to appear.

Yet, here I was watching as they dragged her helplessly to the square center. My wolf was grumbling inside of me as he felt like crunching on the pack fighters who dragged her mercilessly. Even though I don't feel remorseful, my wolf was furious. I tried a lot to control my wolf so I could listen to what punishment my father would contend.

My father asked her a question again but she still didn't answer and I know my father very much, he doesn't like the silent treatment. Of course, he gave his acronym. He asked Gamma to whip her till she died. "Till she dies?" My wolf squealed at his word.

Instantly, the Gamma began his job. He flogged her not even with a leash but an iron strap. My wolf became frustrated and forced himself out of me. He growled and hopped mightily down from the terrace not minding the pain it was going to feel.

He ran towards her and the first thing he did was attack the Gamma. He bit him dangerously, ripping him into pieces.

Just before I had forgotten my father doesn't like interference, a syringe clutched into my body. It was wolfsbane. I howled louder than ever as I felt it weaken the side where it landed on. I knew my father was the one who had shot it and I swirled around to face him. He was already striding down and my wolf felt he should protect her. He stepped in front of her for protection, confronting my father.

My father questioned me and my wolf snarled at him in answer. Then, I had to mind-link my best friend, Joe, to come to take her away for healing.

Joe did and I begged my father to let him go. I went away and shifted back to my normal being and my wolf kept dangling for his victory. I went to my room and quickly put on my clothes before heading back to meet my father.

"You made me look like a coward in front of my pack, Jake, I could kill you!" My father snarled at me as soon as I opened the door to his chamber. He was standing in front of the window, bracing me, his hands folded together at his back. He looked like a true King.

"I'm sorry, father." I pleaded, bowing my head at him even if his face was turned away from me.

"Don't you think you're beginning to humiliate me?" He bellowed and swirled around to face him. He was furious. You don't have him to say it but with the switching of his eyes from the normal Irish color to dark gray, I knew he was.

I had to stay silent and not utter a word.

Striding down to me, he said, "I suppose you know why I wouldn't give up the throne early to you? Because you are too reckless and you don't behave like you are going to turn an Alpha soon." He paused to see my reaction, I guess but I showed him none. Though his words had hit me like a blow, I want my father to see that becoming an Alpha wasn't something special to me.

He continued, "You question my power today, Jake. No one dares confront me!" He sneered, angrily.

"I'm sorry father."

"Shut up!"

"It's_"

"I said, shut up!"

I was mute again. Arguments. It was something we always love to do as father and son. Still, all of them were the Alpha topic. I know how dearly my father wants to step down from the throne for me but I was too naive for him. He felt with my attitude and nonchalant behavior, I wouldn't be able to rule the territory better than he was doing. He was right. I don't care, all I love doing is going for a run, gathering fighters for training, and chasing out rogues but I was never interested in ruling the pack.

He always made it known to me that whether I like it or not, I was still going to rule the pack. Typically, I was already an Alpha.

"Father." I let out and he arches his eyebrows at me.

"What?" He asked. He was now standing a step away from me but I had to move back a little since what I was about to request might need to build up a fist from him.

"Give her three days, father. After three days you can take up your judgment." I pleaded.

"Are you bargaining with me now, Jake are you?" He asked, taking a step forward but I was smart enough to move back.

"Just three days, father, I won't interfere again. Please, father." I pleaded. I felt my knees go numb and I was forced to kneel in front of him. Fuck! My wolf did that again. He just can't let me speak.

"Who is she and why are you pleading on her behalf?" He asked, suspiciously, his eyebrows raised again.

"She's weak and too fragile to be flogged that way. I took pity on her since Diva got no evidence." I lied thinking he would believe, even if it was half belief

"Hmm…" he murmured, "She disrespected me and needs to be killed."

"Three days father, please," I begged.

"Fine, three days, and I will kill her." He threatened with a grin on his face.

"Thank you, father." I appreciated it and stood up to leave. As I got to the door I heard my father speak.

"She's your mate, Jake, right?"

"I rejected her," I muttered, painfully and went away before he uttered another word.
