Ava's POV

He came through the door without announcement and crossed the room directly to me and pulled me into a hug before I had time to put the book down.

I felt him breathe me in.

"You are home early," I said into his shoulder.

"I missed you." He pulled back and held my face. "I was sitting in that office thinking about how much I dislike the distance between here and there."

"You own the building," I said. "You can change the distance."

"I am considering it." His thumbs moved along my jaw.

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan     The Library

Author’s POVSandra deleted the text before the delivery confirmation had fully loaded. She lay on the bed and looked at the ceiling and thought about the basement. About the screaming. About Edgar's hand around her throat and the specific cold certainty in his eyes when he explained what happened to people who thought they were clever. She had thought she was clever. She had thought proximity to Edgar was a resource she could manage. The head maid had been right. Janet had been right. The only person who had offered her anything resembling a real option was Sebastian, and she had gone to his father afterward anyway. She picked up the phone and typed the message. Deleted it before sending. Typed it again.Sent it.Then deleted the sent copy. His reply came within three minutes. The library.---She collected a rag and a brush from the cleaning room because Sandra was many things but she was not careless, and carrying cleaning supplies into a library when you were a maid was invisible

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    She Was There

Ava's POVI came back to consciousness slowly, the way you surface from a deep and dreamless sleep — no moment of waking, just the gradual awareness of ceiling, then light, then the faces arranged above me.Isabelle's first. Then Sebastian. Then Edwin just behind them both."Water," I said immediately, because my throat felt like something had been scraped out of it.Sebastian helped me sit. Isabelle put the glass in my hand. I drank the whole thing and handed it back and looked at all three of them looking at me."What happened?" I said. They exchanged a look that communicated something between them that I was not part of."You do not remember?" Sebastian asked."I remember Sebastian punching me with great care and very little effect," I said. "And then Isabelle —" I stopped. "Isabelle, did you punch me in the face?""I did," she said, with the expression of someone who has done a thing they believe was correct and is prepared to defend it thoroughly."In the face," I said."It was n

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    Red Eyes

Ava's POVThe afternoon in the garden had been satisfying in the quiet, specific way of small victories — Fiona and Tessy retreating to the fountain, Isabelle finishing her orange juice with an expression of deep contentment, the two of us sitting in comfortable silence while the palace prepared itself for Friday. It did not stay quiet for long.Sebastian found us an hour later with the look he wore when he had made a decision and was in the process of implementing it."Training," he said to me."Now?" I said."Now," he said.---We ended up in the courtyard behind the east wing — an open space the warriors used for drills that was empty in the late afternoon. Sebastian, me, Isabelle, Edwin, and the specific atmosphere of a plan that had not been fully explained to all participants."Your wolf needs to come forward," Sebastian said. "We have three days.""I am aware we have three days," I said. "The entire palace is aware we have three days.""One of the ways to trigger her," he said,

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    The Garden

Ava's POVThe garden was quiet in the specific way that large, well-maintained spaces are quiet — not silent, but settled. Birds somewhere. The distant sound of the palace preparing for something enormous. The warmth of afternoon sun on stone.I had been sitting here for three hours with an iPad full of documents from D'Royals and no one to talk to, which was my own fault for insisting to Sebastian that I could work from home this week and then discovering that working from home without Vanessa's commentary was considerably less entertaining.Isabelle appeared behind me with the specific energy of someone returning from an expedition."You have been here all day," she said."You left me," I said."I was running errands for your wedding.""You left me," I said again. She sat beside me and grabbed my hands with the puppy face she deployed for situations like this, which was effective because I could never maintain irritation at Isabelle for longer than forty seconds."All is forgiven,"

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    Switch

Author’s POVFour days before the wedding, the palace had the particular energy of a place that had been given a deadline and was running toward it.Flowers arrived in crates. Fabric samples were pinned to boards in the room set aside for wedding planning. Staff moved through corridors with lists and expressions of focused purpose. The kitchen had been working in extended shifts for two days.In the middle of all of it, Sandra stood outside the library with a mop she had not yet moved and a problem she could not solve.Edgar's instruction sat in her chest like a stone she had been carrying since he said it. She had turned it over every day since, looking for an angle, looking for a moment — and every time she looked at the reality of it, the same facts presented themselves.Ava was almost never alone. When she was not with Sebastian she was with Isabelle. When she was not with Isabelle she was in the palace with three bodyguards who had been assigned specifically after the last kidnap

  • Rejected Once, Now Claimed By The Lycan    Seven Days

Ava's POVTessy spent the rest of breakfast stealing glances at me across the table with the expression of someone doing rapid damage assessment.I let her look. After the meal, when everyone dispersed and Sebastian was pulled aside by one of the elders with a scheduling question about the ceremony, Isabelle appeared at my shoulder."You are enjoying this," she said quietly."A little," I admitted."She insulted us in a jewellery store.""And now she is eating breakfast in my palace," I said. "I think that is sufficient."Isabelle considered this."Fine," she said. "But I reserve the right to be slightly petty about it privately.""Granted," I said.---**Fiona's Room**"Tell me everything," Fiona said the moment the door closed.Tessy sat on the bed and had the look of someone deciding how much of a story to tell."The woman from the jewellery store," she said. "That was Ava."Fiona stared at her."And Isabelle was with her," Tessy added. "The one she came in with today.""You insult
