Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
Mr. Lister looked completely bewildered. "What admission letter? How could you have an admission letter when you weren't even accepted into any university?"

He quickly took out the list and pointed at it. "You can take a look at it yourself! Here's the school's official list of those who didn't get admitted into any university—and your name is on it!"

Brandon swayed and took a few steps back. "T-That's impossible!"

He frantically took out his phone, and once he confirmed the lack of any admission update, he completely broke down and screamed. "How can this be? Why did I fail to get admitted?"

He rushed forward and grabbed Mr. Lister's sleeve. "You know what my scores were, Mr. Lister! You know that I met the requirements!

"I saw the acceptance announcements for Caldoria University's School of Foreign Service online this morning, and people with lower scores than I got in! Why was I left out? Did the university make a mistake? How could this happen to me, Mr. Lister?"

Mr. Lister was equally surprised. "You should have been admitted to the university by all accounts."

I couldn't help but smirk when I looked at Brandon, who had completely broken down right in front of me. He had decent grades and plenty of confidence, which was why he had only applied to Caldoria University's School of Foreign Service and nowhere else.

He had listed several prestigious universities among his remaining options, but his scores fell far short of their requirements. In the end, he wasn't admitted to any university.

Peter couldn't help but ask, "You didn't get admitted into any university as well, Brandon?"

He seemed worried outwardly, but I could still hear a hint of suppressed joy in his voice.

Brandon went completely pale, utterly lost for words.

In the meantime, as the situation grew increasingly tense, Mr. Lister's phone rang a few times. In about ten minutes or so, every single classmate who hadn't been accepted into a university showed up at Vivian's house.

They all had scores high enough to get admitted to a university. There were others with the same or even lower marks who had already received acceptance letters, yet they had somehow been rejected.

They were frantic, but their parents were even more panicked, constantly pestering Mr. Lister to find out what exactly went wrong.

"Why didn't my daughter get accepted into a single university even though she has decent scores for her SAT? Did your system glitch or something?"

"You're well aware of my son's capabilities, Mr. Lister! He should have easily qualified for a standard university placement. How is it possible that he's completely unplaced?"

Mr. Lister was even more baffled. He then stated firmly, "I'm certain that there is a glitch in the system somewhere."

I cleared my throat and said softly, "I know why it happened."

In that instant, everyone turned to look at me. Brandon finally took notice of my presence and asked with a scoff, "Didn't we break up already, Mabel? Why are you still shamelessly following me around?"

Those surrounding classmates joined in the snickering. "Isn't it obvious? I mean, all of us failed to secure admission, so her presence here is undoubtedly because she was also left without a placement!"

"Did you come here because you still can't let go of Brandon, Mabel?"

I ignored their taunts, merely asking, "Aren't any of you curious about why you actually got rejected?"

I pointed directly at Vivian as I met their bewildered stares. "You ought to know that the reason you are all without a university placement is entirely due to Vivian, our class belle!"

"You'd better stop making things up, Mabel!"

"What does Vivian have to do with any of this?"

I swallowed hard, then solemnly explained to them the absolute importance of the official records envelope.

Mr. Lister got a massive headache just listening to this. He exclaimed, "Did you guys actually tear open the official records envelope?"

He looked at everyone with frustration and asked, "Do you have any idea how important the official records envelope is?"

I instantly felt like crying after hearing what Mom said. In my past life, I never mentioned it to Mom and Dad because I didn't want to trouble them; after all, they were already very busy with their law firm.I deeply regretted it when I saw Mom and Dad holding my body and crying so hard that they couldn't pull themselves together after I died. It was because of that that the very first thing I did after being reborn was tell Mom about what was happening at school.Mom was furious when she first found out, but soon she calmed down and patiently taught me how to fight back. "You should stay calm when you encounter these problems. You have nothing to be afraid of since I'll always be here for you, Mabel."It was exactly because of what Mom said that I finally found courage. In the end, after that incident occurred, Mom had the principal help look into it. They found out something shocking once they actually looked into it—Vivian's secret. It turned out she was only using Brandon.

"Where did you get that recording, Mabel?" Brandon finally snapped out of it after a long while and grabbed my arm. He clearly still hadn't fully recovered from the shock of what just happened."I was the one who recorded it!"It was then that an unfamiliar voice suddenly sounded from behind us.Those present immediately looked back in unison, while I happily greeted the newcomer. "Mom!""Is this your mother, Mabel?""How did your mother get her hands on that recording? What on earth is going on here?"Mom looked distressed as she took my hand. She then took out her business card from her handbag and said, "You're welcome to come to my law firm to talk if there's any confusion. I came here today solely to back up my daughter."She turned and stared straight at Brandon, saying, "You bullied my daughter 23 days ago. You broke her right index finger by stepping on it, and broke her nose as well. I haven't even held you accountable for any of this yet. I've already had the principal

I successfully brought the drama to a fever pitch once more, making every single person turn to look at me."Haven't you had enough, Mabel?" Brandon snapped.Brandon tried to raise his hand to strike me, but Mr. Lister restrained him before he could. I distinctly heard the sound of bones cracking, making Brandon howl and beg for mercy.Mr. Lister released his grip and looked at me in confusion. "What did you mean by what you just said, Mabel? Have all of them been fooled?"I nodded and dragged Vivian out from behind Peter. "Are you still going to deny everything, Vivian? I'll gladly explain everything to everyone if you won't admit it."Vivian, still feigning innocence, violently shook off my hand. "I have no idea what you're talking about, Mabel! Didn't Brandon just make it perfectly clear earlier? They begged me for those photos, so I gave them over! "I wasn't the one who ripped open those official records envelopes, so you have no right to blame me for any of these!"She hes

Brandon smirked faintly and addressed the crowd. "I already told all of you that this was Mabel's idea! You all believe me now, don't you?"I couldn't tear my eyes away from the photo, which showed me sitting on a swing. I couldn't recall taking a photo like that, though. It also seemed impossible for anyone to have photoshopped my face onto it and printed it out so quickly. In addition, the other classmates started pulling out their phones and opening their photo albums. "I have Mabel's photo in my official records envelope as well!"Having gotten the backing of so many people, Vivian lifted her chin quite proudly. "You should just face it now that it has come to this, Mabel! It is entirely because of you that everyone has lost their future and that so many people are currently without a university to attend!"She suddenly shifted her expression, a flash of malice crossing her eyes. "It's time you paid the price for what you've done, Mabel!"Upon seeing that a few parents were ab

Mr. Lister exclaimed, "You guys need to understand what kind of university you're all applying to! You'll get blacklisted outright if you tamper with or open an official records envelope without authorization!"Those present looked at each other in silence, their expressions stiffening. Vivian visibly panicked and instinctively hid behind Peter.Upon hearing that, the parents present flew into a rage and immediately grilled their children. "You had absolutely no reason to touch the envelope! Why on earth did you open that official records envelope?"There were even some who got so angry that they actually started hitting their children.I smiled faintly and laid out the entire story for them in full detail.Brandon, however, cut me off, saying, "You'd better stop acting so innocent, Mabel! You were the one who told us to open those official records envelopes in the first place!"Those present exchanged looks and nodded in unison as soon as he said that. "You were the one who orde
