CLAIRE FISCHER

WHEN I WENT to Alek's room, I did not have any intentions of sleeping. My mind was still heavy from the news j had just heard.

So Fiona was pregnant with a child that should have been mine. I closed my eyes and buried my face in the pillow. I was oddly comforted by Alek's scent that filled the room.

I remained like that for so long that I did not know when I slept off.

I woke up to the sound of the door opening and opened my eyes to see Alek walk into the room. The room suddenly felt small and cramped because of his humongous frame. I looked out the window, it was almost totally dark outside.

"I did not mean to wake you up," He looked at me without any expression on his face then he sat down on the bed, a few feet away from me. "I spoke to my brother about you," He said.

What did he mean? I frowned. Does Joram know everything about me now?

I had hoped that it would remain a small secret between us.

"I told him everything you told me," he said. "Almost everythi

"Telling the senate what I have planned, or the fact that she will be sleeping beside me by this time of the month.""Both," Joram muttered, folding his arms and leaning against the wall.Alek scoffed. "You worry too much," he said. "Just like mother did."Joram's eyes glazed as he remembered their mother. Her straight brown hair, soft smile, and kind eyes. She was a human who had somehow survived birthing two Lycan sons. But she died many, many years ago."The Senate will not take kindly to this," Joram said as Alek adjusted his clothes in the mirror."Then they have been mistaken to think that this is a democratic system," Alek replied. "I don't give a shit whether they take kindly to it or not. It is my decision and the decision is final." He took a step closer to the mirror and rubbed at the scarring on his cheek where Lucia had gorged him. It was healing

"Edwin was right to ask. What is in it for you? I am sure you are not mating yourself to this girl out of the goodwill of your heart.""You villainize me, brother," Alek placed a hand on his chest. "You think I have hidden intentions?""I don't think you do," Joram replied, holding the door to the office open. "I know you do."Alek laughed loudly. "Maybe for the first time in a long while, I have purpose again. Something to take my mind from this cursed curse on me." He rolled the sleeves of his shirt, revealing the tattoos."Speaking of that," Joram said, "Has the time of the month passed?"Alek shrugged. He poured some whiskey into two glass cups and handed one to Joram. "I don't know." He took a sip of his drink, looking at the tattoos that covere

CLAIRE FISCHER"KISS ME, CLAIRE Fischer," He said, in his raspy voice. "Forget about the bleeding and kiss me."And like the fool that I am, I leaned in and kissed him gently on the lips. He gave me a full 10 seconds of control before he took over, pushing me back and kissing me deeper. His tongue invaded my mouth, rubbing and twirling against mine sensually. One of his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer while the other hand cupped my breast, kneading and teasing my nipple. I moaned against his lips and arched my back, pressing into him. He started to push me back to lay on the bed, and I felt his hand run down my abdomen and stop between my legs. He spread them apart, and they eased to his touch. His hand ran underneath my gown, cupping my wet and pulsing mound with his hand. I squirmed uneasily, wanting more friction and body touch. He pulled away from the kiss to look at me; his eyes were glowing red, and he kept his attention on my face as his hand slowly began to m

CLAIRE FISCHERWHEN I WOKE up, Alek was still sleeping soundly. His hand was across my body possessively. I enjoyed the weight on me, but I slipped out from underneath and stood up. I went to the window and looked out at the rising sun. It was beautiful as it came up over the horizon, casting its glare and warmth over the pack. From the window, I saw the pack slowly come awake. I saw the men come out of their homes and go about their daily duties. I must have stood there for almost an hour, absorbed in myself that I did not hear when Alek woke and came up behind.I yelped in surprise when his hand came around me. "You have to learn to stop being afraid," he said, sliding his hand up to cup my breast. He squeezed it once, "Get prepared. We will be taking a walk around the territory this morning. I want to show you around the place."I was not sure I was ready for that, but I nodded. He pressed a small, scratchy kiss on the back of my neck and went to the bathroom. I listened to him t

"I need us to plan on how we are going to attack and retake the pack from the usurper.""What?" I asked. "I don't want you to attack the pack." I looked at Alek desperately. "I don't want any bloodshed on my father's pack, and I know for a certain that there is no war without death and bloodshed.""You don't want your birthright?" He asked."Not if I have to rule over blood," I told him.He chuffed and chewed on his breakfast. "You are afraid of a little blood spilling.""Some of those people there are my friends," I said. "I grew up with many of them.""With the way they treated you," Alek said, pointing a fork at me. "They are not your friends.""It was not their fault," I countered. "They were just supporting their alpha. They didn't know better.""So the alpha is the bad guy then," Alek said. "That won't be a problem. I will have his head hung on the wall there so

It was like they all knew that he was passing by, and they retreated into their homes to avoid him."So peaceful," he said."Do you like it when people fear you?" I asked him.He considered my question for a while, then he said, "I would rather be feared than respected.""So you enjoy oppressing people," I nodded. He chuckled. "I don't oppress people," He replied. "People feel oppressed by me."I understood that all too well. He was a mountain of a man. He towered over me by over 3 feet, and he was very muscular. He had a bad temper, a raspy voice, and cold eyes. It was only normal for the first reaction someone would have to him was fear.He led me to the stream that Elizabeth had brought me on my second day here. He enjoyed her company, and he enjoyed watching the new fire that had been rekindled in her. He enjoyed it when she spoke to him with that fiery command that he didn't know she had until a few days ago. "You are going to build a good school for the pups," she pressed as he led her back to the mansion. "And a training ground for the ones that might be interested in going into the military."He sighed and groaned inwardly. It was Not a bad idea, he nodded. "I will talk to Joram about it.""Joram would agree," she said, sounding very confident like she knew my brother more than me."You know, most of the pups are originally yours," she said. That sounded very stupid. I cocked my head and smirked at her. "They are mine?""Not like that," she chuckled. "I mean, they are going to be the future of the pack. Most of them were born on these grounds. That makes them yours. They wil

CLAIRE FISCHERI MADE UP my mind to look for Elizabeth and make up with her now that I had the time after Alek went upstairs to his office. I went to the kitchen and approached the first girl I saw. "Hello."She turned and when she saw me, she immediately bowed her head. But was it in submission or fear? I asked myself. It would most likely be fear. She had seen me with Alek, and the news was spreading that I would be his mate very soon. I did not want my reputation to be fear so I placed a hand on her shoulder. "Look at me."She raised her head slowly."You don't have anything to fear," I said confidently, trying to reassure her in a strong voice as I had seen my father do many times before. "I am here to look for Elizabeth. You know her?"She nodded."I did not see her earlier today, and I have not seen her in days," I said. "Do you know where she is?"The girl nodded again. "She is in the house.""Why? Is she off duty?"The girl shook her head and said, "She is not feeling well."

I grasped onto the edge of the table, trying to keep myself from falling as my knees went weak."Claire," Alek yelled. He bound over to me and held me up with my waist. He snatched the phone from me with his free hand and put it to his ear. "What is it?" He asked."My Beta dug up the body of Bastian," I heard Logan say. "He must have called the number, pretending to be me, and Claire told him."Alek released a deep sigh. "So what now?""I have to report it to the werewolf council," Logan said. "That is what the pack wants.""The werewolf council?" Alek asked with a chuckle. "Is that not a bunch of old men that pretend to be rulers of the werewolf packs around the world?"Logan gasped. "Such disrespect.""What you should be thinking about now, Alpha Logan, is what you are going to do about a Beta that is not on your side," Alek said.I took the phone from Alek and took a shaky step away. "Logan."

CLAIRE VON SINCLAIRI DID NOT see Joram for the rest of the day after his outburst in the dining room. "I can't find Joram," I said to Alek in his office. He waved me in. As I walked in, I realized that I had never really been inside this man cave. It always felt off-limits, and I did not have many things that would need me to be here.It was a large, white oval room, dimly lit. It was like an entire apartment on its own, with couches, a large mahogany desk at a corner with his leather chair behind.I counted two tables with bottles of whiskey and Scotch. There was also a mini bar at the far end of the room."You look surprised," Aleks's voice drew me from my reverie."I have never been in here," I replied. He chuckled and stood up. "You are welcome here anytime." He said. "In fact, we should build an office for you too. You will be handling the affairs of your people there.""My people," I scoffed. "Like they are not also your people.""I would like the office to be close to mine,"

LOGAN MILLER HE WAS STUNNED beyond words. As he left Ruth's house, he heard her last sentence ringing in his head. She said she knew things. Was this one of those things? Knowing that he wanted to protect Claire and hide Bastian's body further away. But how had she known? Was it even possible to stay a step ahead of them? These questions flooded Logan's head. He could feel a migraine start as he walked through the woods. Well, the situation could still be salvaged, he muttered to himself. He could just try and avert it. If only he and Bruce and maybe a few other men knew, he could just shrug it off. He got to the strong stream and crossed it without any issues. They had gone out of the territory now. How had the men even found the body? What made them come this far in their search? It could not be that they followed a scent. He shook his head. Every scent was washed away by the current and air updraft of the stream. So what gave them the idea? As he came upon the scene,

BRUCE AND HIS man walked for almost half an hour without seeing anything. Bruce was starting to feel this plan slip through his fingers every minute they walked without finding the spot."That bitch could have been more specific," he snarled under his breath, flopping onto a rock. "We might start to head north now. We will walk at an angle, so we will meet with the others in the middle, then we will search the area together again."The man nodded and sat down. They were close to the stream. Bruce sighed and looked around. He was tired, and could not imagine the energy required to carry the rogue all the way out here, and then bury him, and go back without anyone seeing or noticing anything."Beta...""Yeah?" Bruce looked at his companion who was dipping a foot in the fast flowing stream."You know that if your plan works, Claire would be hurt too," He said.Bruce cocked his head and noted that his companion was the youngest out of the three. "Yes. I am aware of that." He replied."I t

BRUCE HURRIED AWAY from the pack. He crept behind a thick tree and watched as Logan went into Ruth's house. They had agreed to stalk Logan for as long as possible so he would not suspect where Bruce had gone. When Bruce was sure that Logan had gone in and was being occupied by Ruth, he continued his journey farther away into the woods, heading west. After almost half an hour was brisk walking, he came across the Tibet stream. It was a fast-flowing stream that was quite wide. As he looked at it and tested the current, he wondered how the Lycan had carried the body across.Using a stick, he tested how deep the water was, and luckily, it was not deep as it was only a couple of feet deep and would reach up to his knee, but even with the shallowness, the current of the water was able to sweep him off his feet."Beta?" Bruce turned to see 3 men of average build coming towards him. "Luna Ruth sent us, she told us to do as we were told without asking questions."Bruce nodded. "What we are go

BRUCE KNEW THAT something was up, and to his dismay, It seemed like Logan was starting to catch up on everything that was going on behind him. It had come as a terrible surprise when Fiona found out that she was pregnant, and it was very obvious that he was responsible, not Logan.Their plan had been to just manipulate Logan and make him fuck Fiona without condoms or pulling out, so they could easily blame the pregnancy on him. But the plan did not work out perfectly and Logan did not bite. It was like he saw through their plan and refused to sleep with Fiona.Bruce was going to try and convince Fiona to try and abort the baby. It sounded bad, but it would be worse if Fiona suddenly gave birth and the child looked nothing like the alpha. He walked into the pack house. He knew Logan had been on a call with someone. He suspected that it was Claire, and there was something he was keeping secret. He peeked out the window to make sure he was not followed. Then he put the earpiece to his e

LOGAN MILLERLOGAN AND BRUCE walked out. By now, the news that Bastian was missing had gone around the pack. Some people were glad that the rogue responsible for attacks on them months ago was gone, while some were worried. They wondered how the veteran warrior like Bastian could just disappear, and how safe they were. Some of them shared the same views as Bruce and were already suspecting that it was the Lycan clan that visited that was responsible for the abduction."How are his people holding up?" Logan asked."As they should," Bruce answered. "They are worried, some are scared. They have recorded a large amount of deaths in the past few months. Their male population has been reduced to a very few.""Those are not our faults," Logan muttered. He wanted to say it was Ruth's fault for sending them against Claire, and the Lycans. In fact, everything that happened was Ruth's fault.First, she manipulated him into dumping Claire, and then making the whole pack share in her hatred for Cl

So that was where the Lycan and his clan were residing. The door to his office opened and he turned around to look at Bruce. "Any news?" He asked. They had been looking for Bastian for hours, but it seemed like the rogue just disappeared into thin air. Bruce shook his head and sat down on the couch. "Ruth is going nuts." He said, looking at Logan. "Is there something I should know that I don't?"Logan chuckled and shook his head. He was constantly amazed at how tricky and deceptive Bruce was turning out to be. If he didn't know better, he would think that Bruce was also ignorant of everything. But he knew better. He knew that Bruce knew about the affair between Ruth and Bastian."Earth to Logan..." Bruce snapped his fingers.Logan shook his head. "Sorry. What did you say?""I was only just wondering wh

"You can join us for breakfast."I could feel Aleks's disagreement. But he had said it was my decision, and I made it."Are you sure that is a good idea?" He asked me.I did not take my eyes away from her as Lucia came towards the table and took a seat close beside Alek. The nerve of the woman, I gritted inwardly while I kept my face emotionless."Thank you, Luna Claire," she said and I did not miss the mocking sarcasm laced in her words.
