Chapter twenty two

"Where are you off to, Leo?" Layla asked as she walked into the room with a tray of food.

I rolled my eyes as I put my coat on and said, "Don’t worry, I have to leave." I told her, and she hurriedly dropped the tray on the table as she came to me, putting her hands around me.

"Tell me, won’t you even try the food I’ve prepared? I put in so much effort to make this food, Leo. Won’t you try it at least?" She asked as she stared at me, and I took her hands off as I sighed.

"I’m so sorry, Layla, I have to be there. Don’t worry, I’ll join you for dinner later. Thank you." I told her as I rushed out of the room.

I knew she was hurt; who wouldn’t be? But did I have a choice? The beta wasn’t one who would always look that way or come by himself to my room so early to ask to see me in the throne room.

Something was wrong; I could feel it. The only question now was what the problem was. I guess I had to wait until I was in the throne room; that was the only place I’d get my answers.
