Alex's POV

Coach Margret is waiting for me in his office, pacing behind his desk like a caged animal. The moment I walk in, he gestures for me to close the door and take a seat. The serious expression on his face tells me this isn't going to be a casual conversation.

"We have a problem," he says without preamble. "Luna's pulling away, and we need to get her back on track. Fast."

I frown, settling into the chair across from his desk. "What do you mean, pulling away? She's been excelling in everything she does."

"That's exactly the problem," Coach says, finally stopping his pacing to fix me with an intense stare. "She's getting too confident, too independent. She's starting to ask questions, and that's dangerous for all of us."

A chill runs down my spine. "What kind of questions?"

"The kind that could expose everything we've worked for," he says grimly. "I need you to get close to her, Alex. Closer than you've ever been. I need you to bring her back into the fold before she discovers th

Luna's POVI'm still trembling from my encounter with Coach Margaret when I finally make it to the café where I'm supposed to meet Cassie. My hands shake as I push through the glass doors, the familiar scent of coffee and pastries doing nothing to calm my nerves.Cassie waves at me from across the table, her bright smile faltering the moment she sees my face. I weave through the crowded café."You good?" Cassie says as I collapse into the chair across from her. "What happened? How did your meeting with Coach Margaret go?"I stare down at my hands, still processing everything that just transpired in his office. The way he knew about my search for my parents, the predatory look in his eyes, the bargain he offered—it all feels surreal, like something out of a nightmare."I'm going back to the Timber Wolves," I say quietly, the words feeling foreign on my tongue.Cassie's coffee cup freezes halfway to her lips. Her eyes widen in shock. "What? Luna, I don't understand. Just yesterday you w

Luna's POVI'm sitting in class, trying to focus on the Professor's lecture when my phone starts buzzing against my leg. I glance down discreetly and see Coach Margaret's name on the screen. My heart immediately starts racing.I let it go to voicemail, but the phone starts buzzing again almost immediately. This time, I can see several of my classmates glancing over at me with annoyed expressions. The Professor pauses mid-sentence and looks directly at me."Miss Luna, is there something more important than this phone ringing that requires your attention?"Heat floods my cheeks. "I'm sorry, Professor. It's just…"The phone buzzes a third time, and now the entire class is staring at me. The Professor sighs and gestures toward the door."Perhaps you should take that call outside."I gather my things quickly, mortified by the attention, and slip out. The moment the door closes behind me, I answer the still-ringing phone."Coach Margaret?""Luna, finally," his voice sounds urgent, almost br

Luna's POVI stand in front of the mirror in my bedroom, adjusting my sweater for the third time. I've chosen something casual but nice—I want to look put-together without seeming like I'm trying too hard. Today is important, and I need to make a good impression. The trip to St. Catherine's Home for Children takes longer than I remember, but then again, it's been years since I've been back. The familiar red brick building comes into view, and I feel a mix of nostalgia and nervousness wash over me. This place shaped so much of my early years, and returning here as an adult feels surreal.I grab the bags of gifts from the backseat—toys, books, art supplies, and treats that I carefully selected yesterday. Whatever answers I might find here today, I want to give back to the place that gave me a foundation when I had nothing.I pay the driver off.I step forward and hear the familiar sound of children's laughter echoing from somewhere inside. After a moment, the door opens to reveal the ma

Luna's POVThe cool afternoon air hits my face as Cassie and I walk out of the cafeteria, but it does nothing to calm the storm raging inside me. My hands are still shaking from the confrontation with Alex, and I can feel the residual anger coursing through my veins like electricity."Luna, wait," Cassie says, grabbing my arm gently. "Can we talk for a minute?"I stop walking and turn to face her, seeing the concern etched across her features. "What is it?"She takes a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. "I know you're going through a lot right now, but I need to say something about Alex, Dominic, and Liam."My jaw tightens at the mention of their names. "Cassie, I really don't want to—""Just hear me out," she interrupts softly. "I know things are complicated, but these guys... they stood up for you, Luna. When people were talking trash about you behind your back, when others were saying you didn't deserve your success, they defended you. Every single time."I feel a pang of s

  • Rejected and Claimed By The Alpha Hockey Stars    Chapter 41

Alex's POVAfter my morning lectures, I decide to grab lunch at the campus cafeteria. The day has been particularly draining, with the professor droning on about molecular biology for what feels like hours. All I want is some food and maybe a few minutes of peace. That's when I spot Luna sitting at a corner table with Cassie. Even from across the crowded cafeteria, I can see the tension in Luna's posture, the way she's leaning forward intensely as she speaks to her friend. There's something different about her energy today, something that makes my wolf stir restlessly beneath my skin.I grab a sandwich and make my way over to their table, putting on my most casual smile. "Hey Luna," I say, sliding into an empty chair without waiting for an invitation. "Cassie."Luna looks up at me, and I'm struck by how exhausted she looks. Her eyes are slightly red-rimmed, like she's been crying, and there's a fragility to her that I've never seen before. It takes every ounce of self-control not to r
