Chapter 5 - Your nothing

Esme's POV

I'm on my way to work when I'm stopped by Adeline. Her smugness is quite visible on her face. I can't deal with her right now; my heart feels too heavy to listen to her whining or laughing at me about something.

"Oh, poor little Esme. It's a shame you know. Dylan rejected you because he didn't want you so you try to make him jealous by showing up to work with a smile on your face"

I turn around, waiting for her to carry on, but she doesn't. She's stood there trying to make me break. It's working, but I certainly won't allow her to see that. Dylan's walking towards the door, and I kindly ask her to move.

"If you don't mind Adeline I have work to do"

"I do mind. And it's Luna to you"

Alpha Dylan approaches us and glares daggers my way like I have done something wrong. What could I have possibly done to him this time?

"I told you not to come into work tonight it's for guests and work members." He says so coldly.

"I am working," I tell him while looking at the floor. "It's only 4:45 alpha I said I would work until 7. Elisa told me she didn't want me slacking so I won't. I will stay out of your way I promise"

"You better bitch" Adeline says which makes me feel more nervous.

I'm on pots duty tonight and I've already had a beating from some of the maids. Charlotte's the worst when she fights because she sure can fight but she also brings the claws out and I'm as weak as anything to fight back so her kicks to the stomach and the punches to my face hurts like a bitch.

"Why are you hitting me? I have never done anything to you" I ask pleading for her to stop which angers her more because she throws another kick to my ribs and I am certain I hear a crack. Alana is too weak to help me heal It's going to take a long while as I'm weak in energy as it is and she can't heal me when she is also weak. Looking back at Charlotte I see that she has her claws out and is growling at me. I haven't shifted yet so I am not able to emerge from human to wolf form yet so I am to take every scratch and beating that comes my way.

For now

"You exist. That's enough to make anyone want you gone. Maybe someone will take you and finish off the job easily" She says as if she's hinting towards something I don't know about.

'Charlotte Mackavore. The Best friend of the one and only Adeline Pierce. Not only do they enjoy shopping together but they also love to tag team on me in attempts to make my life hell'

I explain to Alana in my head. Besides Finn, she seems to be the one today who makes me feel safe.

Secure.

A friend.

After a few minutes, I stumble to the ground taking a whole load of plates with me and glasses. Feeling the weight of my actions and terror, they smash all over the floor leaving me lying on piles and piles of glass. The shards have sliced my hands and my legs open and I hear voices behind me and I already know that this isn't the end of my torment tonight.

It's just the beginning.

"WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE" Elisa's voice cuts through the kitchen.

I'm too embarrassed to look at her and all I can do is apologise.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to break them I just lost my footing"

"Yeah. She lost her footing the clumsy cow"

I start growling without realising I am doing it. It's like my body had an experience in another dimension because this is new. But my trouble isn't over because I hear Alpha Dylan's voice. Even though he rejected me I can still smell his faint smell.

"What's all this shouting for? We have guests here. Can someone tell me what is she doing on the fucking floor"

"I'm sorry Alpha" Elisa starts speaking. "I heard a commotion and I rushed in thinking someone was hurt and I saw Esme on the floor with my brand new pots smashed beside her."

I mean...they aren't brand new...if they were then I would be dead by now.

"Clean it up mutt and get out. I don't want to see you here tonight. I already told you that earlier! And if I ever hear you have been disrespecting my staff I'll not hold back on any torment I choose to give. Is that clear?"

I nod. Thinking and hoping that he would just go away. It's bad when I have to wait until he's gone to look back up, it's even worse when I wish we didn't have him as Alpha and that someone would magically poof him away.

"ANSWER ME. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR"

"Yes, Alpha" I say and grunting about my answer he storms off and I am happy that I only have half an hour until I am done.

Dylan's POV

I make my way back to my office where My dad (Former Alpha Bobby Langley) My mother (Luna Rose) and the Alpha from 2 different packs conversing about the treaty we want and need are seated. On one side we Have Alpha Mark of theMoonlightt Pack and on the other side, we have Alpha Jaxon from the Midnight pack.

"Do you always talk to your staff like that?" Alpha Mark asks.

I'm caught off guard forgetting that they could hear everything and I try to make an excuse for myself because that girl down there brings out the worst in me I swear.

"Not usually no. We have been having some issues with one of our workers. She's a little difficult sometimes and doesn't like to listen. But It's okay, she knows her place" I explain but something shifts in the room. Tension rises.

"Before we start, and before I agree on taking on one of your workers as a worker for me I want to view the whole place tonight before the party starts at 9 o'clock." He says and It's not like I can't disagree with it. The man might be saving my ass.

I look at my dad and he nods his head in approval. Big mistake.

"If you have to keep looking at your father for approval, why are you an Alpha to begin with?

"Excuse me?" I say without hiding my irritation.

Mark is quick with his words. He knows how to ruin something as quickly as it started. "As an Alpha, you have to be bold enough to make choices. I have been Alpha of my pack for 6 years and not once did I feel like I needed approval from my father. This is what the training should have provided you with. The confidence you're lacking-"

"I'm sorry to cut you off on your little speech Alpha Mark but you come into MY pack and talk to ME like I am a child? How dare you?" I sneer at him. I don't tolerate disrespect from my pack member so why should I take it from someone who is from a whole other pack?

Alpha Mark stands up, He's got a look in his eyes that makes me feel nervous to be around him but I hold my ground. I match his stance with my own even though he is bigger.

His laugh makes my skin crawl with worry. It's daring for me to say anything so I keep my mouth closed.

"I am simply implying something here Alpha. I am not treating anyone here like a child. I came here because it's the annual ball for this year and not only that but YOU Alpha Dylan invited me here to work on a treaty with you and your pack. You invited US here for help so don't you come at me with insults and kiddie tantrums because I can quite easily walk out of this door without even worrying about what's going to happen and your pack and then you are left with maybe one person. And that maybe all depends on how YOU treat him as well. So I would advise you to knock it back a bit"

I thought the life of obeying someone was over with. Being the bigger fish In a bigger pond but no. I'm a big fish stuck in a small pond.

Yet I'm finding myself obeying to another Alpha in MY pack. We continued with our reasoning for the meeting and got ourselves into a pattern of asking and answering questions.

Alpha Jaxon agrees to this and helps with some problems. Esme West for starters.

Usually, you would ask the parents to basically sell their children but their mother and supposed father don't give a rat's ass about them.

"Right so after today Alpha Jaxon, You will be taking Esme, if that's okay with you? I can get her to pack her bags and be ready by morning." I explain as I flick through some of the paperwork needed to get on the ball with this before tonight starts.

"Alpha Langley. May I know why you want to basically sell a worker who has only ever known her life in this pack?" Jaxon asks.

"Can you care to explain"

The asshole has only been alpha for a few years as well and yet he's sitting here like he's royalty and we're to bow down to him and explain ourselves over everything. In my pack.

Okay if he wants it I'll give it to him.

"I have had people who are in their 20s, 30s and possibly higher who have been in my pack since they were born. Their families and ancestors have been in this pack and I wouldn't dream to trade one for a treaty. Let alone one who is supposedly troubled and doesn't listen or even starts fights. You're her Alpha can you not control your staff and have the same respect for those as you seek to find ?" Jaxon says flicking his pen through his fingers.

"Listen Alpha Jaxon. I understand 100% where you're coming from but I don't have the time to try and tame her. Her family didn't want her due to those reasons. She and Her twin brother are both nuisances here." I explain again. I shouldn't need to be explaining myself in my own conference room but here we are.

While standing up, I add my final message to deliver to them.

"Please think about it. I will be available all evening for you to chat with me and ask me about my staff. Now if you'll excuse me I need to get going."

"I'll take her back to my pack on one condition"

"What's that Alpha?"

"I take her brother as well. If your staff is not able to submit to their Alpha and if they cannot follow instructions as per see then you're not a leader to begin with. I have run my pack with no additional help for almost 5 years. This pack house is too small to withhold... how many people do you have?"

"A little over 140"

Alpha Jaxon dares to laugh. "A little over 140? Are you seriously telling me that a pack that is on average of 300+ you're over half your average?"
