I woke with a banging headache and yet again I was now in a different room. This one was more luxurious than the one I woke up to previously and no one was in the room.
'They must have taken me somewhere else' I thought. The blood transfusion was no longer attached to my arm I noticed and I no longer felt light headed but I was hungry. I left the bed and headed for the window at least to catch a glimpse of where I might have been. I opened the curtains and the scenery gave me no clue as to where I was. In front of me were bare open fields and a forest beyond. Great the country. How was I supposed to escape this place unnoticed? I looked around for a change of clothes since I was dressed in pajamas. I hope whoever changed me into them wasn't Alex. Surprisingly a pair of fresh clothes were by the dresser and boots to go with. I wasn't one to wear boots but who was I to complain. After getting dressed I pondered for sometime on how I was gonna get past the door. Surely they would have guards posted ensuring that I didn't escape. The window wasn't an option given how high up it was. I wasn't in any way athletic so I was sure to break something if I jumped. I decided to try the door and to my surprise it wasn't locked. I turned the handle slowly and peeked into the corridor again, surprisingly no guards were posted. Had they forgotten about me? I didn't want to find out so I sneaked out carefully so as not to make any noise. At the far end of the hallway was a staircase that led upstairs and downstairs. Guess the house had more than one floor. I chose to go down. I could hear people in the building but couldn't say for sure where they were so I had to be cautious. The walls of the stairway were lined with pictures of many people. I saw Alex and Samantha in a couple of them along with a guy who looked similar to Alex. Probably Adam I thought. He was the only one I had heard but not seen. At the foot of the stairs was a very big and luxurious looking living room. How rich were these people I thought but I didn't have time to admire the place so I chose a random door and opened. Wrong door. In front me was a group of maybe twenty to thirty people all staring at me. They were seated in what I presume to be the dining hall. That's why the house was empty, everyone was having lunch. And here I thought I was doing a great job of sneaking about like Tom cruise. “Told you she would try to sneak out the moment she woke” Someone said. “Hmppfff” I think someone elbowed him in the gut. “Well hello, remember me?“ Came a voice. It was Samantha and she was walking towards me. “Samantha” I said ashamed and mad that I had been caught sneaking out. “That's right ,here you must be hungry come join us” She said as she ushered me towards the table. “Everyone this is, sorry I didn't catch your name” She said. “Elizabeth,”I replied. “Nice to meet you” Everyone said then resumed eating as if nothing had happened. She sat me down and started piling food for me onto a plate “Welcome to our home Elizabeth, I wish we had met under better circumstances but like I said we mean you no harm and as you can see we have done you none so far” She had a point but they had taken me from my home nonetheless. “And what do you intend to do with me?“ “Nothing, we are your friends. Just eat up for now and any questions you have Alex will answer them” “Why Alex and why not you” I asked as I started devouring my plate of eggs, bacon and sausages. “He's the reason as to why your here so it's best he do the explaining” “And where is he?“ I asked my mouth full. I was about to choke when Samantha handed me a glass. “He's with Adam, his brother. They're trying up some business. Don't worry he'll be here soon” “I saw a couple of pictures on my way down. So you next to a man who looked like Alex and you guys looked… close?“ She smiled “We are, we share a bond a very few in this world will ever experience” “Okayyy” I said, someone was clearly in love and I don't blame her. Adam looked hot, the kind of hot Natasha would go for. A couple minutes later Adam walked in and I could literally see the light in his eyes shine brighter the moment he laid eyes on Samantha. She even seemed to glow under his gaze. Jesus I thought, what can a girl do to get that kind of love. Then I walked Alex and he gave me the exact same look, well I think it was directed at me. The room fell silent at the sight of him but everyone resumed what they were doing when he raised his hand. Weird. “Are you done eating?“ He asked me. I just nodded. “Please, follow me,” he said as he walked out. I stood and followed him to another wing of the house and to say it was huge was an understatement. It wasn't a mansion but more like an estate, that was the only way they could house the number of people I saw there. We went up another flight of stairs then down a hallway. At the end was a large wooden door made of dark wood. It looked expensive like everything in here. He opened the door then motioned me inside and I followed. It was an office, it had pictures of him at different stages of his life with his brother Adam and what I believe to be his parents. He seemed to have had a happy life, I mean how could he have not. “Please take a seat,” he said, showing me to the sofa in the room. “So” he continued as I took a seat “I know you have questions and I didn't get to answer any the last time you were up so I'll explain everything first then you can ask any after. Will that work?“ I just nodded. “Okay, so William the guy that attacked you was a Vampire” “So he claimed” “So you saw” he replied “Vampires do exist and I know you're finding hard to believe it because it doesn't seem rational but believe me they do and so do all sorts of other supernatural beings and creatures humans believe to be myths and legends” “And what about you? You said you weren't like William but I saw your eyes, they weren't the same but they glowed” “Well I'm a werewolf”he said sheepishly “Or a lycanthrope in more practical terms. I can shift between…” “I know what a lycan is” I replied “We have movies and not to give you a big head you and William are currently the buzz in Hollywood” “Yeah I guess we are. So like I was saying we exist but unlike William we weren't there to hurt you rather we were tracking William down to kill him” “You make it sound like you were making dinner. Kill him? Not that I'm not glad he's dead but that's murder won't the cops be looking for you? Oh god won't the cops be looking for me, my apartment was the murder sight” “Don't worry, Adam took care of the body though he couldn't wipe the blood before the cops came. But vampire blood disintegrates soon after death so they won't get results even if they test it” I nodded ingesting all the information that was being loaded on me. I had seen a couple of investigative documentaries to know that it wasn't that easy to get rid of evidence but who was I to say? I was talking to a werewolf who had killed a vampire so he probably knew better. “So” I said “Why am I here?“ “Well” he said clearly, finding it hard to say whatever it is he wanted to say next. “That's because you are my mate”The night air clung to me as we left Elizabeth’s building. My chest was already heavy with too much. Damien kept his silence too, but I felt his eyes on me. Natasha’s words replayed in my head like a curse. Alex a wolf who had dared to bind himself to Lizzy, dared to reject her, dared to live afterward when rejection should have killed them both and now, if the witch spoke true,he’d found a way to remake that bond with another. But then again what did this mean. How could Lizzy have been his and now my wolf recognises her as ours. I've never heard of someone having two mates. If not for the witch having daid she'd verified it herself I would not have believed her, but she cares for Lizzy and I believe her words. But still I'd need to conduct my own investigation into the matter. I meeded to know everything given that she was also being targeted by the vampires. Everything seemed to tie back to this Alex. When the car doors shut and the driver pulled us away from the block, I fina
Laughter flooded the room and every head snapped toward Natasha, who was on the floor laughing uncontrollably.Even I was puzzled by her sudden display. The tension in the air had been suffocating only moments ago, and now here she was, bent over, clutching her stomach.“Mate?” she wheezed through the laughter.“Lizzy, I thought you already had a mate.” She finally stood, brushing off her dress and smirking at me as though she’d just revealed the punchline of the century.“And so did I,” I replied dryly, though the corner of my mouth twitched despite the knot in my chest. “How many mates can one actually have? It’s like a reverse harem over here.”That jab got Lucien riled up, his jaw tightening as his golden eyes flared with restrained anger. But before he could lash out, Damien cut in, his tone clipped and cold.“There can only be one mate per individual,” Damien said firmly, like he was correcting a child. “But what do you mean she already has one…?”“My thoughts exactly,” Lucien
Day had turned to night now and gratefully nothing had changed as of yet. My watch ticked toward midnight, and still we hadn’t seen the witch come out. I sat with Damien in the vehicle alert to any change that may happen, attentive to any danger that may threaten Elizabeth's safety.“She hasn’t come out yet,” he said finally, breaking the silence. “It’s been hours.”“I know.” My eyes didn’t leave the glow of her apartment windows, faint slivers of light passed through drawn curtains . “I wonder what it is they’re doing in there.”Damien shrugged, though the tension in his jaw betrayed him. “Talking, probably catching each other up on the latest gossip. Women tend to do that.”I almost smirked but didn’t. My gut wouldn’t let me, something about the night had been wrong from the beginning, and when that scream cut through the air. It was unmistakably Elizabeth’s, every muscle in my body went taut.I was out the door before Damien finished cursing under his breath, my boots hitting the
The call went unanswered yet again.I frowned at my phone, Elizabeth’s name glowed back at me, then went dark. She always picked up, always and if she didn’t, she called me back within minutes. But last night she never did and this morning… still silence.Which is why I was now behind the wheel, headed toward her place. The closer I got, the more unsettled I felt. The sight of men in reflective jackets working by the roadside only deepened it. A massive tree lay across the road, splintered, dragged halfway aside, sawdust clouding the air. It didn’t look like a clean fall, it was as if something had pushed it overI slowed, my gut twisted, an accident? Maybe. But my instincts said otherwise.I backed up and took a side street, circling around until I reached her apartment complex. I eased into her lot, scanning automatically like I always did. Elizabeth’s car wasn’t in its usual spot. Which was odd. I hesitated, then parked there myself. The moment I stepped out, a prickle ran acro
I locked the door behind Isla the second she stepped out, pressing my forehead to the cool wood as if that flimsy barrier could keep the rest of the world away. The silence that followed was almost deafening. My body ached from head to toe, every breath scraping against bruised ribs, every movement a reminder of the chaos I’d barely survived.Again, I was in this mess yet again. Vampires had attacked me, and the big bad werewolf had swooped in to save me.Lucien.I really liked him, more than liked him in fact. I had thought that maybe, just maybe this time I could share something real with someone else, have something genuine between us. A connection that wasn’t wrapped in lies or half truths, but I was a fool for even letting myself imagine it. A fool for believing that I could ever have something so real.Because in the end, he was just like Alex. A werewolf, a reminder of everything I had sworn I wanted no part of. And now, because of Alex, because of them, my life was hangi
The convoy slowed to a halt in front of the modest apartment building. I stepped out of the lead car, the night air biting against my skin, though the chill that settled in me came from elsewhere. My eyes found her immediately as the van doors slid open.Elizabeth.She looked pale, exhausted, but very much alive thanks to the same wolves she now recoiled from. I moved toward her, intent on helping her down, but the instant she saw me walking towards her she flinched away, her eyes flashing with the same raw fear she had shown in the van.I stopped, her fear cut sharper than any knife, but I would not push her for I understood why she was scared of me.“Very well,” I murmured, stepping back. “I’ll keep my distance.”With Isla at her side, Elizabeth made her slow way to the entrance. I followed several paces behind, every part of me taut with the need to bridge the gap, but respect chained me in place. She didn’t want me near her and though it twisted in my chest like a blade, I would
