Mag-log inGinnie**
“Mummy…”
The voice barely made a sound at all as it echoed behind me. I dropped the stack of torn newspapers from my lap and stumbled across the other room, my heart hammering like a trapped animal.
“My head hurts again,” she whispered.
Lily lay curled on the thin mattress, her dark curls damp against her temples. Her eyelashes fluttered weakly as she tried to look up at me.
I knelt beside her and brushed the strand of hair from her forehead, fighting the panic that lived in me now like a second heart. “I know, baby,” I murmured. “But mummy’s here with you.”
The morning after Varkos had used me, rejected me, and spat on fate. I had expected my life to become worse than it already was. Instead, Master Gray summoned me.
“You’re free to go, human slave.”
One sentence was all he had said to me. No explanation for why he did that—just a small small sack of coins placed in my hand as he barked at me to leave.
Weeks later, I learned the unexpected and terrifying truth that I was pregnant with Varkos’s child. He had never known all these years and I plan on keeping it that way.
Lily was just six.
And yet she was fading as though she had lived a lifetime, no…as if she were dying. And I could do nothing about it—not in Bleeding Rose, where humans were tolerated only because they worked as slaves to high-ranked Lycans.
But with Lily… it was worse, because she was a halfling. Halflings in Bleeding Rose were nothing but an abomination to be killed right from birth.
I had hidden her since the moment she came into this world, from every living thing that would see her as a monstrosity.
“Are we going to finally see a doctor today?” Her blue eyes blinked at me.
“No,” I whispered, “I’ve already told you so many times that we can’t.”
“But I’m sick.” Her voice cracked.
I gathered her into my arms, holding her fragile body against mine. “We will find a way,” I said, even though the lies tasted bitter on my tongue. She breathed in small, uneven bursts, and I could feel her heartbeat flutter like a frightened bird.
“Mummy will never let anything happen to you,” I said, saying the words as though it were a vow. She clung to me for a moment, then her eyelids closed and she drifted back into a fragile sleep. I gently laid her down, tucked a blanket around her small shoulders, then stood up slowly.
There were days I could pretend to be strong for Lily no matter what we had faced. But today was not one of those days. I turned back to the newspapers scattered on the floor, I had searched through them for days, desperate for anything—any job that would give us money.
I scanned the pages again, my eyes burning from exhaustion from sitting at a place for so many hours. “No one is going to hire a human,” I whispered.
Time wasn’t on my side anymore, I had to leave Bleeding Rose with Lily or risk her being exposed and killed. But to do that, I needed money.
Fuck!
The curse left my mouth before I could stop it, and quickly I turned to see if it had woken Lily up, but it didn’t.
I reached for another newspaper, the page crinkled beneath my thumb. And then, for the first time in days, something finally caught my eye.
MAID WANTED AT BLOOD MOON PACK VILLA.
I froze, unsure if my eyes were playing tricks on me right now as I stared at the words written on the newspaper until they blurred.
The Blood Moon Pack was a name that carried weight. Fear and power all over Bleeding Rose Country. Where humans were treated worse than slaves.
“What are you thinking, Ginnie? Don’t do it!” I muttered to myself. I should have torn the paper into pieces and thrown it into the fire. Instead, I found myself tracing the letters with numb fingers.
Generous pay.
Room provided. Immediate start. It was everything we needed.
Money enough to take Lily out of this town, and take her to a hospital where she’s supposed to be treated. I swallowed hard, the fact that only Lycans lived there sent a chill through me.
No matter how much I tried all these years… I couldn’t get the thought of that night out of my head. His voice still lived beneath my skin like poison with every word he spat while he devoured me whole.
I curled my fingers around the paper, folding it carefully, and tucked it beneath my shirt, as though someone might steal the paper if they saw it.
Behind me, Lily stirred awake. A soft whimper slipped from her lips as I rushed to her, her small hand reaching for me blindly. “I’m here, baby,” I whispered, gathering her fingers in mine.
Her skin was cold.
Too cold.
It felt like winter.
“Hold on, my love,” I brushed her cheeks, “Just a little time and everything will finally be alright.”Her lashes fluttered, and at that moment, I made a decision.
For her, I would walk into the jaws of death itself. Even if it killed me. I knelt beside her again and pressed my lips to her forehead.
“I’m going to take up that job, tomorrow,” I whispered.
Ginnie**The engagement party felt like a funeral dressed in gold, and music drifted through the grand hall in soft, elegant rhythms. Laughter followed, sharp and brittle, bursting from high-ranked Lycans’ throats as they all danced to the music.I stood among the servants with my eyes lowered, one eye contact with any Lycan in this room and I would be dead meat…snapped in half. But inside, my thoughts screamed, spiraling over and over again, refusing to be silenced.Kenna was going to drug Varkos tonight to force him to mark her. Oh, God…Should I tell him?If I stayed silent, her evil plans were surely going to succeed, which would spell doom for Lily and me. But if I spoke, I could die in the hands of Varkos. Before I could let myself drown in thoughts, my eyes found Kenna. She wore a silver dress as though it belonged to her bloodline, expensive jewelry glittering at her throat, wrists, and fingers, while she smiled at every guest as though the world bent willingly at her feet.I
Ginnie**After Kenna Blackwell’s arrival, the villa no longer felt like a place of work, it felt like a cage where monsters kept humans to inflict pain on them. The humiliation since that day replayed in my head over and over again, no matter how hard I tried to bury it—the more it stuck in my brain. And now…now of all places I have been assigned to clean her room. “Get ready for more humiliation, Ginnie,” I muttered more to myself on the way to Kenna’s room. The thought alone made my stomach churn as I walked slowly down the east wing corridor, the cleaning supplies clutched to my chest like a shield.Just go there and do your job, Ginnie.Don’t look at her!Act like she doesn’t exist! Before I could gather my thoughts, I found myself standing in front of her door, my hands shaking violently as I took hold of the doorknob. But then—Voices began to drift through the thick wood, female voices laughing. Wonder who could have visited her? “…I’m telling you, Kenna, he’s stalling,” a dif
Varkos**The study was silent; the only sound was the soft ticking of the clock, each movement precise and quiet. The same way I always liked it.I was reviewing reports when the door creaked open. My eyes narrowed, muscles tensing…no one had permission to enter this study without knocking.A small figure, stepping tentatively inside. Light brown hair fell around her face, eyes wide and curious, she froze the moment our gazes met. Just long enough to realize she had stumbled into a place she wasn’t supposed to be.“Who are you?” My voice was low, controlled, but loud enough to thunder through the study as I studied her, my instincts snapping forward with protective caution and immediate curiosity. She blinked once, then tilted her head.“I… I’m Lily,” she said softly, as if saying her own name would save her from my wrath, “was just looking for… something.”A faint smirk tugged at the corner of my mouth at the way she spoke, there was something about it…a confidence that didn’t belong
Ginnie**I didn’t sleep all through the night, every time I closed my eyes, I saw him. Those cold, merciless eyes that pierced into me last night. His voice still echoed in my head, low and lethal, wrapping itself around my spine.Leaving the Blood Moon Villa wasn't an option… Not yet. Even though every instinct screamed at me to run.“GINNIE!”A familiar voice shattered my thoughts like glass. I flinched so hard the knife slipped, slicing my finger. A rush of blood welled up, bright and red, and I quickly wiped it away on my apron.“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” The chief maid, Maria stormed towards me, her face twisted in irritation.“I…I’m preparing the vegetables,” I stammered, straightening my position to meet her eyes, “Like I was told.”She slammed her palm on the counter beside me. “Are you stupid? Those were meant for the main dish, they were supposed to be prepared hours ago!”“I’m sorry,” I said quickly. “I wasn’t told—”“Of course you weren’t,” she snapped, “Be
Ginnie**No. No, no, no…My knees weakened, and the whole world narrowed to the man standing before me. I took a stumbling step back, my spine hitting the desk behind me as the memories crashed into me like tidal waves. He looked…different. The Varkos I knew from six years ago had been a nightmare wrapped in human flesh…but this version? This version of him looked like the nightmare had finally found a body worthy of it.“….You.” His eyes scanned me slowly, deliberately, as though peeling away each layer of my defenses, “What the hell are you doing here?”His voice was a low, lethal growl, vibrating through the quiet room.My fingers trembled against the edge of the desk. I forced myself to drop my gaze to the floor, but it was too late.Fucking hell!He still remembers my face after all these years! Before I could part my lips to speak, his hand snapped forward, gripping my chin with cruel precision as he forced my face up to meet his eyes. “I never forget a face,” he murmured, voice
Ginnie**The Blood Moon Pack villa towered over us, high walls wrapped the estate, guarded by tall Lycan soldiers in black uniforms. Everything about this place screamed power. But it wasn’t the good kind…I swallowed hard, clutching Lily’s tiny hand as we made our way further inside. “Mommy,” Lily whispered, her voice trembling slightly, “Do you think…we’ll be okay?”I squeezed her hand. “We will, baby. I promise.” The lie cracked on my tongue, but I had to say it anyway. It was the only thing that had kept both of us upright. We walked forward, and one of the guards immediately stepped toward us, forming a wall of muscle with his glowing predatory eyes. “Humans don’t enter through this gate,” he growled, lips curling in disgust.“She has an appointment,” Lily said sharply before I could speak, her small frame bristling with courage that shouldn’t belong to a child her age.The guard sneered. “How cute. Does the human pet speak for you now?”Heat flushed my face as I bowed my head, f
