Chapter 2

Author: Much Better
Before I could stop him, he had already ticked the option for Medford College on the screen.

"Aaron, I don't want to go to this school."

Even I did not notice the tremor and coldness in my own voice.

I pulled his hand away and warned him flatly, "You know how much time and effort the Brooks family spent raising me. There's no way I can choose a school like this and keep disappointing my parents."

"How would your parents be disappointed? You're not even their biological daughter…"

The moment the words left his mouth, Aaron quickly corrected himself.

"Besides, don't they already have another daughter now? And college entrance exam scores don't define a person anyway. You're talented no matter where you go. You'll shine anywhere."

Remembering what the floating comments had said, I stared directly into his eyes.

"What about Yvonne Brooks?"

"Her?" Aaron sneered with obvious disdain. "That real daughter they just brought back? She has no manners and no class. Even if she gets into university, she won't amount to much."

His words were harsh, but there was an unmistakable softness hidden in his eyes.

A kind of indulgence.

"You're right," I said calmly. "Gold shines no matter where it ends up."

I snatched the mouse from his hand.

"In that case, I'll fill out my application myself."

"Just remember to pick Medford College." He watched me patiently. "Go on, hurry up and submit it. Why are you dragging this out?"

Right then, his phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen, and almost instantly, the corners of his lips curved into a gentle smile. His fingers moved rapidly as he replied to the messages, so focused that it was as if I no longer existed.

Looking at how eager he was to leave, I forced out a smile.

"If you've got something to do, then go ahead."

Even as he was leaving, he still turned back to remind me, "Remember, you have to choose Medford!"

Meanwhile, the floating comments above my head scrolled wildly across my vision.

[The real daughter prepared a maid outfit as a reward for the male lead. She's already waiting for him at the hotel!]

[Damn, sneaking a taste of forbidden fruit right after graduation? That's wild.]

[Supporting female character, don't throw away your future for a man. Your life belongs to you. Don't become part of their little game.]

I quietly exited the application page.

Then I changed my university choices.

Because to me, my future mattered far more than any man.

After resubmitting my applications, I even edited a fake screenshot and sent it to Aaron.

Sure enough, my phone vibrated almost immediately.

[Chloe, I knew you'd apply to Medford. I knew you'd stay with me!]

[There's a class reunion tonight, and I've got a surprise for you too. Did you see the dress on the table? You have to wear it tonight. Make sure you dress up beautifully before you come.]

The moment he saw the screenshot I sent, he could not wait to message me.

I looked toward the cheap paper bag sitting beside the table.

Inside was the 'surprise' dress Aaron had prepared for me.

I pulled it out and immediately saw the awful quality. The fabric was cheap synthetic material, with loose threads sticking out everywhere.

Even the floating comments could not help mocking it.

[So the male and female leads want to humiliate the supporting female character in public, but did they really have to pick such a cheap knockoff?

[If she's actually willing to wear that dress to the reunion, that's true love right there. The thing is ugly and practically see-through. Then the female lead can show up in the authentic version and mock her fake heiress identity all over again.]

Now that the Brooks family had completely cut off all business ties with the Smith family, things fell apart fast. After the college entrance exam cheating scandal went public, every Smith family product was boycotted. Their cash flow collapsed, and bankruptcy was looming over them. The only solution Aaron could think of was to beg for my forgiveness. To celebrate my acceptance into Westbridge University, Grandpa specially hosted a grand banquet. On the day of the event, the hall was filled with influential guests from all walks of life.Aaron had not received an invitation, but somehow he still managed to sneak in. The moment he spotted me, he walked straight over, the corners of his eyes faintly red.Stopping in front of me, he lowered his voice."Chloe, I really know I was wrong. Yvonne seduced me. Only then did I realize the person I truly love is you."We grew up together. We were childhood sweethearts. You know me better than anyone. My feelings for you were real. You onc

I knew the Smith family only stepped in to defend Yvonne because Aaron had been part of it too.Neither of their scores was clean. At this point, the only thing they could do was deny everything to the bitter end. What nobody expected was for Mr. Brooks to step in personally. He had the national exam committee bring out a backup set of papers and demanded that Yvonne and Aaron retake the college entrance exam live on camera. The moment they heard the proposal, both of them panicked and waved their hands in refusal."That won't be necessary, Mr. Brooks. I already took the exam once. Taking it again wouldn't be fair to the other students, would it?""Yeah, Grandpa. I'm your biological granddaughter. Don't tell me you can't even trust me over something like this?"Mr. Brooks sat upright, his expression cold and uncompromising."I'm only giving you two options. Refuse to take the exam, and from this day forward you are no longer a member of the Brooks family. The Brooks family will

Hidden within the embroidered pattern was a signature stitched in matching thread, so subtle it almost disappeared into the fabric itself: Valentino."Valentino..."A girl standing nearby, someone clearly familiar with luxury fashion, suddenly covered her mouth and gasped. Her voice trembled with disbelief."That's a custom couture gown..."I knew I'd seen it before in a magazine! It's a globally limited design, available by reservation only. Every embroidered signature pattern is unique. A dress like this costs millions at minimum!"Her words landed like a brutal slap across Yvonne's face. She stared fixedly at the embroidered lining of my dress, the jealousy in her eyes so intense it looked ready to explode.Compared to it, the pure white dress she was wearing, despite costing tens of thousands, instantly looked cheap and ordinary.I slowly let go of the hem, the fabric cascading smoothly against my skin. Then I looked calmly at Yvonne's pale, shaken face and spoke in an icy

"Seriously though, doesn't that call from Westbridge's admissions office feel way too perfectly timed? Almost like it was staged!""Exactly! What admissions officer calls students during dinner? There's no way that was real. They probably hired an actor or something. This is ridiculous!"Without the slightest trace of panic, I pulled up my college entrance exam results right in front of everyone."My score was 741. With grades like that, why would I skip Westbridge University just to attend some random vocational college like Medford?"As I spoke, I turned my phone around and showed my results to the entire table.Yvonne stared at me in disbelief, muttering under her breath."That's impossible... this isn't how the story is supposed to go."There's no way you'd give up the chance to stay with Aaron. How could you possibly choose Westbridge?"The moment I heard her mumbling, everything clicked into place.Just like those strange floating comments, Yvonne already knew how the pl

"Why is Westbridge calling her?"The classmates around us stared in disbelief. After all, in their eyes now, I was nothing more than a fraud who could only get good grades by cheating. On the other end of the phone, the admissions officer spoke in a calm, steady voice."We are very pleased to inform you that, with your outstanding score as Zenith's top science student, you have been admitted to the Computer Science Department of Westbridge University. We just need to confirm the final mailing address for your admission letter..."Every single word landed like a boulder crashing into still water, sending shockwaves through the entire private room. The smug smile on Aaron's face froze instantly. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at me."You lied to me? You didn't apply to Medford?"Didn't you say you'd stay by my side forever?"The hand holding his wine glass trembled violently, his knuckles turning white from how tightly he gripped it.I did not know whether his hear

A cruel smile curled across Aaron's lips."Guys, Chloe's college application is the real shocker here. Right, Chloe?"The moment he said that, every eye in the room turned toward me.Barely able to contain his excitement, Aaron pulled out his phone and held it high for everyone to see.Displayed on the screen was the edited image I had once sent him.The application page clearly showed one selected choice:Medford College."Come on, everyone, take a good look!"His voice dripped with exaggerated mockery."Our school's top student, Chloe, turned down actual universities to apply to a prestigious institution instead! Medford College! Hahaha!"The moment he finished, he burst into loud, arrogant laughter. The private room fell silent for half a second. Then the entire place exploded."What? Medford? Isn't that the school for chefs?""A vocational college? Chloe? No way! She ranked first in every mock exam! She never scored below 700, how could she possibly apply to a vocatio
