[Zeve’s POV] I stared at the only horse standing at the back door of the inn. “We are running low on budget, so we have to share a horse, is it ok?” Amor said, hanging my backpack on the carrier hook of that horse. [Zeve’s POV] Amor clearly heard me, but he didn’t reply. Well, I did not expect him to, anyway. After that, I didn’t talk to him either. We crossed massive mountains that had owned the green colour of the grass in their foots. But towards their peak they lost all colours and with abstract clouds surrounding them, they owned the greyish white colour near the horizon. Wildlife was quite active in the grey light of the night. No torches, no fire lit the grasslands, ponds, icecaps of the mountains, yet the serenity in them was out of this world. Birds chirped as if they were beckoning something they had been longing for years. The echoing silence amplified even the faintest cries of a deer and added it to the melody of the nature. [Zeve’s POV] Those whimpers were like whispers of too many people crying at the same time. It brought back my memories from childhood when I was a kid. I used to hear such echoing whimpers of several people constantly. Along with those memories, those whimpers brought an ache in my chest, too. I looked at my wavy reflection in the lake and smiled. I had been the only one beside me all this time and I will be the only one for me until I die. I had gone through a lot of things on my own and it wouldn’t change in the future. [Amor’s POV] She got up from me and ran to the lake. I bit my inner cheek and got up. Placing my elbow on my knees, I looked at her sob, squatting near the lake. Why did she always ran to lakes to cry? Was that a coincidence, or did she find peace near lakes? “When she says not to touch her, it means I can’t touch her. [Amor’s POV] The city welcomed us with the scent of freshly baked bread suffusing in the air as the kids ran across the narrow streets, chasing after one another. The street began with houses made of stones, clay bricks, and rocks with thatched roofs. Strong aroma of tea leaves and coffee wafted around us. They were vintage tea shops and cafes. Women were wrapped in long clothes known as sarees that had intricate thread work of gold. Men wore dhotis with jackets in vibrant, gleeful colours. Kids wore the same. People chattered in a language I didn’t understand. The streets were filled with ringing of bells as the doors of the cafes opened and closed, laughter of ladies standing near the clothes and jewellery stores, sound of parrots, cats and other animals in a pet store and many more sounds filled the place with a comfort I had never felt before. [Amor’s POV] Food was served and thank god she ate decently, like a lady. But even during eating, she used to lift her head, holding a spoon in her mouth, and look around. There were all kinds of people. Some were using a spoon, fork, and knife to eat their food, and some used their hands. That was their culture. Zeve put the spoon aside and started eating with her hands, too. That was a completely different side of hers I was witnessing. She was observing, learning, and accepting their culture as her own quickly. More like embracing a whole new culture in her warm and gentle embrace, like a bird hugging her babies in her wings.
