Elizabeth POV As I trudge along the forest with Alpha Kyle, I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I do not know how Pack politics work. Am I safe here? Have I crossed into a territory that may not be friendly. What do they do with people who cross their borders? Am I considered a rogue? Will I end up in the dungeons? If I do, I will never get out. Anxiety starts to roll over me as I consider all the things that could happen. “Calm down, I can smell your waves of anxiety stinking up the air,” Alpha Kyle says. “I do not stink,” I reply angrily. “Can I help it if I do not know what you plan to do with me?” I ask him. “You should have thought about that before you crossed into my territory,” he reminds me. “Well, what are you going to with me?” I ask him. Knowing was better than guessing. “I typically put people who cross my borders in the dungeon for questioning,” he says as he smirks back at me. My heart sinks. I had been in the dungeo
Elizabeth POV I slowly turn around, anxious to see who is behind me. “Elder Timothy?” I question as I look at the man who had only hours ago expressed concern that I could not become Luna for the Crescent Moon Pack. What was he doing here? “Elizabeth. I am happy to find you in good health,” he says as he takes a step towards me. I take a step backwards towards where Alpha Kyle is standing. “What are you doing here Elder Timothy?” Kyle asks as he moves to stand slightly in front of me. “Alpha Carter sent me to pick up his mate. He could not leave the Pack as something had come up, so he trusted me with this important task,” he says calmly. I look at him confused. He was adamant I was not good enough to be Carter’s mate. Why was he here wanting to help Carter bring me home? “I am not going back to the Pack,” I say to Elder Timothy quietly. “Now Elizabeth, of course you are coming home. Carter is expecting you,” he replies. I
Alpha Carter POV We raced to the Bliss Moon Pack. I wanted to get my mate back and get things cleared up between us. Her effort to reject me startled me but did not work. I did not accept her rejection, and she would not know that was necessary. My heart is in my throat uncertain what to expect. “That’s odd,” my warrior who is driving murmurs. “What?” I ask on edge. “We just passed three SUVs going in the opposite direction as us,” he says as he looks in his rear-view mirror. “Maybe something came up, that Kyle needed to tend to,” I say distracted by what was ahead of me. We arrived at the territory gates and were advised to wait a minute. I was confused and stepped out of the SUV, with Stan and the two warriors in front jumping out prepared to protect me. I sigh, “What the hell is going on? I am here at the invitation of the Alpha and the Beta,” I say angrily. “They are both on their way here,” he replies to my confusion. Had
Alpha Carter POV “There they are, Alpha,” the warrior advises me. He is barreling towards them, as I watch eager to get to my mate. Stan cautions me, “We do not know anything more than Timothy has her. We have to be smart about this.”. “I have every right to kill Timothy,” I snarl at him. “Agreed. We have to be careful that he does not kill Elizabeth, before we can rescue her,” he reminds me. He is right. It would not take much to kill her before I could get her out of the vehicle. “When you get close enough ram the vehicle off the road,” I say to the warrior. “Wait! The middle vehicle will likely have her in it,” Stan says to me. “What if she is not?” I question him concerned we will let the wrong vehicle get away. Stan is mind-linking the other drivers, “Let them go ahead of us and take the first vehicle out,” he says as one of the vehicles quickly passes us. He slams into them taking them out and swerving before righting hi
Alpha Carter POV As I backed out of the SUV carefully, I mind-linked Stan to have something to cover Elizabeth with when I exited. I was cautious not wanting to hurt her any more than she had already been. I could see her body had been beaten at some point and those were not wounds from the accident. She had not said a word since I had her in my arms. Her body was tense and full of fear. I whispered words of encouragement and promises of protection to her as we worked our way out of the vehicle. As expected, Stan was standing there with a blanket, he had retrieved from one of our SUV’s. I took it and wrapped Elizabeth in it before I stood with her held tightly in my arms. I heard the whimpering of Alpha Matt off to the side. He was curled into a ball on the ground. I slowly walked over to him and put my booted foot on his neck. He looked up shrieking in fear, “You cannot kill me,” he says as his face rolls from fear to laughter. “You cannot
Elizabeth POV I cannot believe the words Carter shared with me. He had fixed everything. He had banished Margie from the Pack. Elder Timothy was dead. Alpha Matt was going to our dungeons. Did that mean for once I was safe? That I could let my guard down and simply enjoy my life? Would Carter mark me now? I wanted to ask him, but the time was not right. Sitting with just a blanket around my naked, marked up and dirty body, I wanted to be clean. I needed a shower. And I wanted privacy with Carter to ask that question. Not that Stan was particularly listening, but it was a conversation to be had alone. I giggled as Carter nuzzled into my neck, breathing in my scent. I loved being able to be close to him. I was sorry I had left the way I did. All of this could have been avoided. Hearing a yawn, “I told you so,” I hear in my mind. “You are real?” I ask afraid to believe she was still there. “I am real, and I am back baby,” As
Elizabeth POV I sat in Carter’s arms for a while longer, before starting to rise. There had been chatter all around me about what a silver wolf could do, what it meant for the Pack, the upcoming trial in a couple days … it was all overwhelming. I just wanted to be alone to process what was happening. “Just breathe,” Ashley says in my mind. “What do you need, love?” Carter asks. “I just need to go to the washroom,” I reply as he helps me up. “Do you need any help?” he asks sincerely. Shaking my head, “No, I am fine,” I say as I move across the room to our bedroom. I move into the walk-in closet and get some clothes that I can put on after my shower. Stepping into the washroom, I turn the shower on. I drop the blanket from my shoulders and look in the mirror. I can see the bruise on the side of my head where the Alpha had kicked me. I can see the bruises covering my broken ribs. I am healing faster than I have in the past, and I know I have
Alpha Carter POV “What? No, I cannot have you there, Elizabeth,” I reply to her. I will use tactics to get the Alpha to speak. Tactics I never want her to see or believe me capable of. “I need to know what he knows,” Elizabeth responds. “He is threatening my life, my happiness; I want to hear firsthand what he has to say,” she says calmly and clearly. This is the first time I have seen her so focused on something. I suspect Ashley’s presence has something to do with it. I suspect Ashley knows more than she has shared with us. I believe anything that happened was to protect Elizabeth. I just hope it is not something that will cause the Council to pause about assigning justice to Alpha Matt. I quickly shower and follow Elizabeth into our bedroom to get dressed. She is putting on black skinny jeans, with a tank top and a leather jacket over it. I know she is using her clothes to provide a barrier against the Alpha and the dungeon. She had be
