Alpha Carter POV We spent most of the night going over anything and everything that Elizabeth could remember about the abuse she endured, how many years, and anything specifically about her first shift. She did not remember she was a silver wolf, so her recollections are very limited. Or Ashley was protecting her from something. It was difficult for Stan, Kinsley, and I to listen to Elizabeth go over her history of abuse. It was hard to imagine a young teenager having to endure so much at the hands of a man who should have been protecting her. She shared as much as she could with little emotion. Like she was talking about something that happened to someone else. She had grown so much since coming here, I was incredibly proud of how far she had come. We would start her Luna training as well as her fight training after this fiasco of a trial was over. She could fight as a human and a wolf. Seeing Ashley fight will be a sight. I expect after t
Elizabeth POV I was shaking inside as I watched the “spectators” walk in. I knew in my gut that this was going to be bad. But I had to maintain a level of hope that things could work out in my favour. My biggest fear was being taken away from Carter. “That will not happen, Elizabeth; I will not let it,” Ashley says in my head. “You decided to make an appearance,” I comment annoyed at her silence. “I am always here. Sometimes I need time to figure out how to help you,” she replies as she tucks back in my mind to observe everything. We are moving to the room we will be having the trial in, when we hear a big commotion from the entrance to the Pack house. Of course, Alpha Matt needs to make a show when he arrives. Luna Nancy and Sydney run to the Alpha and are crying all over him. Enough of a show to make those of us who are immune to their ridiculousness want to vomit. “Oh daddy, what did they do to you?” cries Sydney as her father hugs her,
Elizabeth POV I look at my parents and I catch my mother’s eye. She looks terrified but gives me a subtle nod before my father takes her arm and her attention from me. I watch them sit down, before looking back to Alpha Matt. He looks confident seeing my parents in the room. That causes me concern, but I have no other choice but to listen to what he has to say. “You all need to be aware that this Omega slave … Elizabeth … is no regular she-wolf. She is a silver wolf,” the Alpha says pausing for effect. There were gasps in the room, as my face went red. Carter tightened his hand on mine, giving me comfort knowing that many in the room fear silver wolves. “She shifted earlier than most of our young shift. When she did, she was massive. Her parents were terrified and called me immediately. Of course, a Pack member was in distress, and I went to their aid,” he says as if he was some kind of hero. What he is recounting is not what I remember.
Alpha Carter POV I am caught off guard when Elizabeth jumps up beside me. “Lies! All Lies!” I hear a raspy voice as I realize Ashley has come forward. I believed it would happen. There were too many discrepancies with the story Matt is weaving. Nobody could believe this fool. Surely to Moon Goddess this was an open and shut case. I stand beside Elizabeth wanting to help manage Ashley if things escalated. Not that she was not in control; however, Matt had been pushing her buttons wanting to see a display that would cause fear among those present. “You know you were not there when I shifted. I did not kill any warrior and I most definitely did not need to be contained. I was in complete control,” she says with anger and pain laced throughout her words. “There you see – she is here. She has taken over Elizabeth’s body. Everyone be afraid, be very afraid,” he yells trying to cause panic among those in the crowd. There are a few ru
Elizabeth POV I am struggling to keep control of Ashley. She is pushing me to shift, “Elizabeth, give me control and we can get out of here!” Ashley screams in my head. “We cannot leave, Ashley. Leaving will imply guilt,” I share with her knowing that is what Alpha Matt is hoping for. “We are not safe here,” she whimpers in my mind. “Trust Carter,” I say to her as Carter continues to hold my hand understanding the struggle I am experiencing with Ashley. Suddenly new people enter the room. They look like warriors, but they are not our warriors. They immediately race to the front of the room and circle me and Carter. As I stand there, I start to recognize the men surrounding us. And my heart plummets. Things start to quiet down, as Diane is asking what the meaning of these warriors is in being here. “I brought my own warriors for my own protection,” Alpha Matt says as he looks confidently on at me. Waiting for me to break. Diane gasps in ra
Alpha Carter POV With everything that was happening, the council wanted to keep the hearing going. They felt they had enough evidence and wanted to make some determinations of their own. Everyone was made aware of the charges. The inappropriate abuse Elizabeth endured over her years as a slave at Red Moons Pack. The kidnapping attempt of Elizabeth. And the accusations that Elizabeth had murdered Elder Timothy in cold blood. While we did not get into that enough to be certain she would be cleared, I had to trust the Moon Goddess now that we had a chance to clear her name. Once I got her back the first thing I was going to do was mark her. Not being able to communicate with her was killing me. I paced waiting and hoping there would be some quick decisions. But that did not happen. That meant there were many discussions being had behind closed doors. I had the Omegas bring food into the area for those who could stomach food. I could not.
Elizabeth POV I roamed around the territory I found myself on. There had been nobody who came running when I breached the area, and I could scent no rogues. Perhaps it was a safe zone for wolves. I did not know but I knew I still had to be on my guard. I had to be certain I could protect myself. Or rather Ashley could protect us. I stayed in wolf form. Without clothes I felt vulnerable, and it was not necessary to be in human form while we searched for shelter. The further we moved away from the Crescent Moon Pack, the sadder and more depressed we became. Ashley whimpered in my mind. She was missing Max, Carter’s wolf. The two of them were starting to get closer. With Ashley getting stronger every day, she was starting to be able to communicate with him more. She had been building a bond with her mate. “What should we do Ashley?” I ask. I do not want to leave, but I do not want to be put in the dungeons. I felt the threat of
Alpha Carter POV I see Elizabeth coming out of the tree line and I race from the room and towards her. I hear people calling my name, but nothing stops me from getting to my mate. “You came back,” I say to her as I pull her tightly into my arms. “Ashley brought us back,” she murmurs as she holds onto me like I am her lifeline. I lean back putting my hands on her face, “I am so proud of you both,” I say as I kiss her slowly, softly. Leaning my forehead against Elizabeth’s, “Everything is going to be okay,” I say before we hear yelling.Elizabeth POV Alpha Matt is commanding his warriors to get me. I tense up as Carter steps in front of me. “Stand down,” we hear Jackson yell out to the warriors. Like Diane, he has authority over all wolves and can stop them from being commanded by their Alpha. The warriors suddenly stop confused as to what to do. “Looks like the slave wins today,” one warrior smirks as the others chuckle. It hurts
