Chapter 6

ผู้เขียน: Lilian Green
Ethan was two years Autumn's senior in university.

A few years ago, when his company hit a bottleneck, their professor recommended Autumn to him.

She didn’t let the professor down.

With her team, she developed the earliest version of AI-based medical diagnostics in the lab.

After the project successfully went to market, Ethan promised to give her a twenty percent stake in the company as compensation.

Over the years, the company earned significant profits from that project, and Ethan kept his word.

Every quarter, he sent her dividends directly into her account.

That technically made her one of the company’s shareholders.

Three years ago, Julian told her he wanted her to learn financial management, so one day she could take charge of the family’s finances.

She believed him.

She gave up her field of expertise and worked diligently in his company, managing the books down to the smallest detail.

Every cost estimate she handled was calculated to the lowest possible margin to ensure healthy cash flow.

But what did she get in return?

With that thought, she replied to Ethan, “I’ll accept the invitation this time.”

As soon as he saw her response, Ethan called. "You’ve made up your mind? You’re coming back?"

Autumn glanced at the documents in her hand.

"Yeah. I’ve made up my mind. But I’ll need a month to finish my resignation."

There was a pause on the other end before Ethan spoke again.

"I’m really glad you’re coming back. Honestly, I didn’t expect it. Autumn, the company truly needs you. Come back."

Thinking about how she had been away from the field for three years, Autumn started to feel unsure.

"AI has developed so fast over these years. I’ve been out of the loop for so long. I don’t know if I can still keep up."

Ethan dismissed the concern. "That algorithm you created? No one’s been able to surpass it even now. Stop being so modest.

"By the way, there’s a CADD conference next week. They’re hoping you’ll attend. Interested?"

Autumn nodded. "Yeah, I’ll go."

Since she had already decided to return to her field after resigning, there was no reason to turn down such a good opportunity.

"Got it."

After hanging up, Autumn quickly shifted back into work mode.

Thankfully, she hadn’t completely let go of her professional knowledge over the past three years.

She had just been too focused on Julian, prioritizing family over everything else, and had gradually let other things slip away.

After work, Autumn went home and sat in front of her computer, catching up on recent developments in the industry and brushing up on technical material.

Julian still wasn’t back by dinnertime.

Autumn ate a few bites without much interest before setting her utensils down.

Seeing how little she ate, Zoe couldn’t help but ask, "Ma’am, your appetite hasn’t been great lately. Are you feeling unwell?"

Autumn walked over to the sofa, crouched down, and tore the page marked “2” from the calendar, tossing it into the trash.

"No, it’s probably just the heat. I don’t really feel like eating."

Even Zoe, someone outside the family, had noticed.

But Julian, her husband, acted like he was blind to everything.

Zoe didn’t say anything more.

She figured Autumn had no appetite because her husband hadn’t come home in days.

After taking a shower and stepping out of the bathroom, Autumn saw Julian coming upstairs with his briefcase.

She paused for a moment, surprised he had come home at all.

Since the affair, he rarely returned.

Was he back because something had happened?

But after just a few seconds, Autumn acted as if she hadn’t seen him and picked up the hairdryer to dry her hair.

Julian merely glanced at her before heading into the study on the second floor.

Though she had grown used to this, a flicker of disappointment still passed through her heart, but it faded quickly.

After drying her hair, Autumn opened her laptop and continued reading up on materials related to CADD.

She had given up so much for Julian over the past three years.

Now that she’d come to her senses, catching up would take even more effort than before.

In the study, Julian was going through emails.

After a while, he began to feel parched.

His hand reached out to the side out of habit but found nothing there.

His brows furrowed slightly.

Autumn hadn’t brought him water.

She used to do that without being asked, always coming to him the moment he got home, asking what he wanted to drink and preparing it for him.

She’d remind him not to stay up too late, to cut back on coffee, and to get more rest.

Of course, he’d never really paid attention.

Was she still throwing a tantrum?

Fine!

He picked up the cup on his desk, got up to pour himself some water, then took a few sips before returning to work.

Just then, the phone on his desk vibrated.

Julian unlocked it and saw a message from Luna, along with a short video clip.

In the video, the woman wore a silky, revealing nightgown.

Her eyes were hazy as she held a glass of red wine, tilting it until the liquid spilled down onto her collarbone, the rich burgundy trailing slowly across her pale skin.

It was alluring and dazzling.

A direct hit to every nerve.

Luna texted, “Room 1008, at the hotel next to your home. Master, are you done with work? Hungry? Want a quick bite?”

Julian’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly.

The shadowy calm in his eyes gave way to a rising heat.

He tugged at his collar and typed a short reply with one hand.

“On my way.”

But the other party dug in their heels, insisting George had acted with ill intent. With witnesses, physical evidence, and public opinion fanning the flames, panic had already swept through the community.George had sworn to his last breath that he’d been framed, but without proof, no one could clear his name.In the end, they’d had no choice but to follow procedure and lock him away.Autumn nodded, eyes rimmed red. "Yes. But my uncle really was framed. Can you give me your uncle’s number? I have evidence that can prove it."She could hardly bear to think about how her uncle had carried that injustice to his grave, never willing to talk about what happened and finding a reason to pull himself out of the shadows. The thought made her want to wring Jasmine’s neck. That woman deserved to rot. She’d lived free and easy for far too many years—it was time she learned what it felt like to lose everything. And Autumn intended to make sure she learned it piece by piece. At a red light ahead,

"Now I finally understand the saying—when someone’s got no shame, they’re unbeatable. Perfect match, those two. May they be chained together for life."Autumn gave Selena’s shoulder a light pat in comfort. "I’m glad you can see it that way. Want me to drive you home?"A man’s love could turn in a heartbeat, and only when a woman truly saw him for who he was could she break free and start anew. That was why a woman had to stand on her own two feet, built something of her own, and earned her place in the world.Selena dangled her car keys with a little smile. "No need. I drove here tonight. My brother bought me this new ride a couple of days ago. Want me to take you for a spin?"To make it up to her, her parents and brother had gone out of their way to treat her well. Anything she wanted, they did their best to give.Compared to Autumn, Selena was definitely the lucky one. Losing a scumbag still left her with a family who adored her.Autumn, on the other hand, had no one. That was why S

Sure enough, scumbags were all the same. Julian and Derek were two peas in the same rotten pod—every bit as shameless as each other. And this particular lowlife happened to be her best friend’s ex, which meant there was no way she’d just sit back and watch."You!" Derek’s veins bulged with rage, his words tumbling out in a near incoherent snarl. "You think you’re so righteous? You’re nothing more than a discarded wife a man didn’t want. What’s so great about that?"You’re an orphan with no sense of your place, and once you’re divorced, you’re nothing."Selena was seething. She never imagined the things she’d vented to Derek in the past would be twisted into a weapon for him to stab Autumn with. She couldn’t fathom how someone could be so shameless and still have the audacity to think she’d ever go back to him. Only if she’d completely lost her mind.At least now she’d seen Derek for what he really was, and just in time. Marrying someone like him would’ve been a lifetime of regret

"Looks like you’re a repeat offender—practiced to perfection. Tsk tsk… having fun?"She’d grown up as a pampered little princess herself, so there was no way she’d back down from Sienna’s petty provocations. It was obvious Sienna was the type to bully the weak and fear the strong, and watching her expression sour further only made her want to laugh.Julian frowned, about to say something, when the door opened again and Simon walked in, looking tired. The moment he saw Autumn, his hand on the door hesitated, but he quickly recovered.Autumn glanced at him once before looking away.Seeing him only reminded her of their mother’s death anniversary—how they had waited, hoping her two brothers would show up.And the result?Exactly the same as the past two years. Today, Hector had tossed out a few light words, as if that could erase what they’d done.Ridiculous.Simon acted as though he hadn’t seen her, striding past to Luna. "Luna, Hector’s out at a dinner. I happened to be free, so I came

Sienna struggled to yank her hand free. "Autumn, let go! You’re insane!"Autumn’s eyes swept over her, sharp as a blade. "Oh? So, you hit someone and think you’re in the right? You dish it out but can’t take it?"If I were you, I’d be holed up at home right now, finding the best lawyer I could to see if you even have a chance of winning this case."Not parading around like nothing happened and definitely not taunting your plaintiff every chance you get."Then Autumn leaned in, her voice dropping to an icy whisper. "You want me to drop the lawsuit, yet you keep mocking me over and over. The nerve."If you’re such a cheerleader for mistresses, then I hope one day your own husband leaves you for one. You’re welcome."As Sienna clenched her teeth and fought harder to break free, Autumn suddenly let go. Sienna gave a sharp cry and landed hard on her backside. The fall jolted through her spine, and her head clipped the edge of the table. The pain left her momentarily speechless. Autumn had

When it came to Autumn, Luna knew her well enough. She was quick-tempered, easily provoked, but lacking real ability.Word was Autumn only had a bachelor’s degree; with her mother passing away early, she never even pursued a master’s.Aside from a sharp tongue, she was useless in every other regard. Her entry into Vanguard this time was pure luck. She always had to rely on men to stay afloat, and Luna despised women like her the most.Autumn arched a brow. "Miss Lewis, and who exactly are you to me? Do you think you know me that well?"What a joke—mistresses passing judgment on the wife, and she didn’t even have the shame to keep it to herself.Though she no longer cared, that didn’t mean she would let Luna speak about her however she pleased.Luna frowned but quickly masked it. Autumn was just a clown, not worth her time.Selena let out a cold snort. "Two mistresses hanging out together… no wonder you’re both so good at stealing men. Turns out it’s a joint operation!"What’s wrong? B
