Mag-log inSince Angus's injury, he hadn't left the house. His days followed a dull routine—reading, watching the news—nothing exciting. But then Liesa, the physical therapist, moved in, and he found a new form of amusement:
He wondered just how absurd a person could get.
After hours of mindlessly watching TV, he switched it off, feeling sure her so-called "promises" were just a joke. Anyone who could choke on their own toothbrush wouldn't last long, even without him throwing her to the sharks.
<Maybe I'll just toss her out tomorrow morning,> Angus thought coldly.
Liesa slept soundly that night at the Romano mansion. The next morning, she woke up early, determined to face the day. To avoid further provoking Angus, she deliberately chose not to wear her white coat. Instead, she wore a light blue sweater, paired with jeans and sneakers.
Standing before the mirror, she looked at her reflection, blinking at her innocent face. A smile tugged at her lips as she admired herself. It was almost embarrassing—she had been selected as an assistant by one of the top psychologists, simply because of her harmless appearance. The doctor believed her looks would put patients at ease, so she'd been entrusted with more responsibility.
<I never lived up to that potential,> she thought, as her smile faded. Despite handling countless cases, she never became the best psychologist. Facing a difficult patient now, she felt like she was stumbling through the dark. The thought of dealing with him made her dread the day ahead.
Meanwhile, Angus sat in his bedroom, watching as Liesa made faces at herself in the mirror. One moment, she was frowning; the next, she was pulling exaggerated expressions. When her nostrils filled the screen, Angus couldn't hold back any longer. He slammed the remote and turned off the TV.
Sam, observing carefully, spoke up in a low voice, "Sir, should I ask Dr. Valtieri to leave now?"
Yesterday, when Angus had called him with this decision, Sam had felt a hint of regret. But now, seeing how strange Liesa truly was, he began to think Angus's decision was the right one.
"No need. Let her stay," Angus replied, his voice as cold as ever.
The butler, confused, didn't understand Angus's change of heart. But after catching the look in his eyes, he nodded. "Understood… Mr. Romano, would you like to head to the rehab room now?"
"Let's go." Angus's tone was indifferent. How else could he ensure she ended up as shark food? Those sharks he kept weren't going to get a taste of human flesh unless he helped the process along.
Sam nodded but was interrupted when his communicator buzzed in his pocket. With an apologetic smile, he checked the message after receiving Angus's confirmation. The moment he saw it, his expression changed.
"What is it?" Angus asked, his curiosity piqued.
Sam hesitated, discomfort written all over his face. "Miss Swanson has arrived. How should we proceed?"
A flicker of coldness passed through Angus's eyes. "Let her in."
"Ok, sir." Sam quickly began to wheel Angus over, his eyes scanning the chair to make sure it hadn't been touched by "dirty hands" from the previous day. Once satisfied, he assisted Angus into it with a brisk motion.
Liesa had already arrived at the rehab room early, but after waiting for what felt like an eternity, she still hadn't seen Angus. <Has he changed his mind?> she thought anxiously as she walked toward the door.
Passing through the hallway, she overheard a soft voice from downstairs. "Angus, you have to understand... If it weren't for... I really want to marry you, but my mother's threatening to disown me. I can't go against her wishes."
Liesa couldn't help but smirk. “A melodramatic love triangle? Now this is getting interesting.” She continued on, careful to stay quiet.
"Take her out," Angus's cold voice commanded.
"Wait! I'm not done yet!" The woman's voice cracked as she looked at him, her eyes filled with desperation and tears. From Liesa's spot in the hallway, the woman appeared fragile, playing the part of an innocent damsel in distress.
"Even though I'm engaged to Silas Romano, I'll always keep a place for you in my heart. If one day—" Her voice trailed off in a choked sob, and she lowered her head, hiding behind a veil of tears.
Angus's expression darkened, a flicker of disdain crossing his face. "Miss Swanson, you're mistaken. We hardly know each other. Why tell me all this?"
"Angus," the woman, Nina Swanson, looked up at him, her eyes pleading. "I know you have feelings for me. Right now, it's just because of your injury, but you should know that no matter what you say, you'll always be the one I can never replace."
Nina had fallen for him at one of the Romano family's galas, back when Angus was the golden child, untouchable and living among the stars. She, on the other hand, was just the daughter of a newly wealthy family. She had pursued him relentlessly, always feeling inferior.
Things were different now. Angus had fallen from grace, and Nina's father had used his money to secure her engagement to Silas Romano, the Romano family's eldest son. In the blink of an eye, their roles had reversed. Now, Nina had the courage to confess her feelings.
Angus glanced down at his legs, still covered by a blanket. His expression remained calm but distant. He turned to look at Nina, his voice as cold as ice. "What exactly do you think you are?" His tone was casual, but the arrogance behind it could knock someone down in an instant.
Nina's face paled. She couldn't understand why things weren't going as she had imagined. He was in such a miserable state now—didn't he owe her gratitude for still loving him?
With a soft sigh, she dripped with pity. "Angus, I know you're not thinking clearly, but I'm not angry. You've been alone in this house for so long. I'm sure you'd like some company. I can be here for you whenever you need..."
"No need, Miss Swanson," Liesa's voice cut in with a smooth, quiet smile. She stepped into the room, her eyes narrowing with barely concealed irritation. She had no intention of playing the hero, but Nina's endless prattling was only making Angus more agitated.
She had slept too much during the day, and now, with her mind racing and a heavy body pressed against her, sleep seemed impossible. The mix of restless thoughts only kept her more awake, especially with Angus lying beside her.But there was a silver lining to being wide awake.Once she was sure Angus was sound asleep, Liesa carefully slipped her hand from his grasp. She gently lifted his arm off her waist, inching away like a thief in the night. She knew Angus’s sleep was light, so she didn’t dare make a sound. She barely breathed as she made the tiny movements, inching herself away until there was a small gap between them. When she finally managed to create some distance, she exhaled slowly, closing her eyes to begin sorting through her thoughts. Her mind sharpened when she focused, and she didn’t notice that, just half an inch away, Angus’s eyes were wide open. His gaze was icy, locking onto her with an intensity that could burn through her very soul.Liesa, lost in her thoughts, fi
Liesa didn’t answer, and Angus didn’t ask again. They stood there, an uncomfortable distance apart, the silence between them stretching endlessly. Her gaze drifted around the room, landing on the belt of his robe. It hadn’t been tied. She hesitated for a moment, then, almost instinctively, took a step toward him. With quick, almost mechanical movements, she tied the belt, stealing a glance at him as she muttered, half-joking, “It’s not my fault. If you hadn’t started this, I never would’ve... but then you came at me, kissing and holding me, and now I—”“And now you...?” His voice sliced through her words, his eyes narrowing as he waited for her to finish.Liesa cleared her throat, fumbling for the right words. “I... I want to be with you. I mean, I want to date you.”There was a long pause, the silence stretching too long.Liesa felt his gaze heavy on her, her heart pounding in her chest. Before she could speak again, he broke
Liesa’s voice wavered as she spoke, doing her best to sound sincere, though it made her cringe inside. Once she finished, she stole a quick glance at Angus, her heart pounding. she thought, the weight of the situation pressing down on her.Her career wasn’t even off the ground yet, and already, everything was on the line. If Angus ever remembered the fractured mental world and its alternate personality… she would never be able to work as an assistant again. The thought churned her stomach. She blinked and looked up, eyes pleading, praying for him to show mercy, to let her go without making her regret her words.Angus didn’t respond, his gaze unblinking. The silence stretched between them, the air growing heavier, colder. Liesa instinctively hunched her shoulders, her thoughts racing.
Liesa stared at Angus Romano, her mind going blank for a second. Then it clicked.Back when she insisted on searching Silas’s room, Angus had promised her a reward once it was done. Her gaze dropped—straight to the towel barely hanging at his waist.Understanding hit all at once.“Y-you don’t have to go that far…” Liesa blurted, eyes wide. She shifted back instinctively, her thoughts spiraling out of control. She thought, Her brain felt like it short-circuited.Wasn’t he never interested in her before? Her fingers clenched the sheets.Angus watched her frozen reaction, a faint smile flickering in his eyes.He leaned down suddenly. Before Liesa could react, he pressed her back onto the bed, hovering above her, his presence overwhelming.Liesa snapped out of it. Her hands shot up, pressing against his chest.Warmth pulsed under her palms. His steady heartbeat travele
Before she could think further, darkness swallowed her whole.A deafening roar filled Liesa’s ears. Her body burned and froze at the same time, the sensations tearing through her. She thrashed weakly, desperate, like someone drowning. When her hand found someone, she grabbed on instinct. Her fingers tightened with all the strength she could muster. No matter what, she refused to let go.When Liesa woke up, the first thing she saw was a white ceiling. Then came the familiar decor. She blinked slowly, confusion pulling at her. They were back at the estate.A wave of heat wrapped around her, comforting yet strange. She looked down and realized she was covered with a thermal device, warmth radiating through every layer of clothing. On the sofa beside her, Angus sat quietly, gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. His gaze was fixed on her, not blinking.“Sir…” Liesa started, her voice soft. She paused, forcing a small smile, trying to push past the discomfort of his unwavering stare. She
Nina ran down the hallway, her heels striking the floor in sharp, echoing beats. Every step felt like it took her further from the scene—and the humiliation that followed. She just wanted out, away from everyone’s eyes.Right before the exit, someone stepped into her path. She stopped short.“What do you want?” Nina asked, her voice tight with caution.Sam smiled politely. “Just a quick talk, Miss Swanson.”“I have nothing to say to you,” Nina shot back, her gaze darting to the two bodyguards who had appeared behind him. She instinctively stepped back, retreating toward the hall.Sam moved forward slowly, his smile never wavering. As he closed the distance, he suddenly stopped, dipping his head slightly.Nina froze, a cold shiver creeping up her spine. She turned around. And her face went pale instantly.Angus sat behind her, eyes locked on her like a blade, piercing and unblinking.“Where is Liesa?” Angus asked, his voice low, steady, and cutting through the silence like a knife.Nin
Liesa once read a story online about a couple who only fought twice in their entire marriage. Years later, someone asked the husband how they stayed so harmonious. He shared a memory from when they were dating.Back then, his wife owned a donkey. One day, it threw her off. She stood up calmly and s
Nina froze, her eyes widening. She hadn't expected there to be another woman in the house. She wanted to assume Liesa was just a maid, but the clothes she was wearing quickly proved otherwise."Angus, I've been waiting for you all day," Liesa said, flashing him a warm smile as she walked over to hi
The silence lingered for a few seconds before Liesa casually straightened up. Without skipping a beat, she reached into her bag and pulled out a lollipop, offering it with a calm, collected smile. "Mr. Romano, would you like a candy?"Sam, observing from the side, grimaced.
"Please, Mr. Romano, give me one more chance. My daughter is still so young, and I don't want to go to prison!" The middle-aged man knelt before Angus, his face streaked with tears, hands trembling as they pressed against the floor. He reached out, fingers trembling as he almost touched the wheelch
