Chapter 6

Author: Shirley
Hiding behind him, Tessa cried so hard her bare shoulders shook.

Grant was silent for a few short seconds.

"She just made a mistake on impulse. I've already scolded her."

"The smear articles have already spread all over the internet. Forcing her to apologize now will only make the public backlash worse."

I looked at him. "And so?"

"So I just deserve to take the blame as an escort?"

"I'll have PR kill the story and bury the online buzz."

Grant's tone was calm, as if nothing had happened.

"The internet has the memory of a goldfish. The storm comes fast and goes fast. In a few days, no one will bring it up again."

"Tessa is still young and doesn't know the rules. She still has to make a living in this industry, so stop hounding her."

My last sliver of hope for him vanished completely. I couldn't understand how, after I stayed by his side for so many years, he didn't care about our history at all.

"You're actually blaming me for hounding her?"

Grant frowned, looking at me in confusion. "Reese, I'm already doing my best to coax you. What exactly do you want?"

"Will you only be satisfied if you force her to apologize in public and drag the entire production company through the mud?"

"Reese, you've been in Hollywood for five years. What kind of mud hasn't been slung at you?"

"As long as PR kills the story, this matter is completely over."

"I thought you were mature and wouldn't care about these things."

So just because I never broke down and lost my composure in front of him, he naturally assumed I wouldn't feel sad or hurt.

Because I was low-maintenance enough, I had to quietly swallow the shameless rumors by myself.

Tessa gently tugged at his sleeve.

"Grant, maybe I should just apologize."

"Reese must really care about how others see her..."

"You don't need to apologize to anyone."

Grant interrupted her, shooting a cold glare at me.

"Reese, those late-night meetings were your job in the first place. You are highly paid to handle this. Swallow your pride."

"Now it's just a few rumors being gossiped about. Do you really have to lose your mind and take all your anger out on Tessa?"

"Be good. Go drop the lawsuit and make peace with Tessa."

His commanding tone left no room for argument.

"Otherwise, I'll have to book a new hotel for you and have you move out to cool off for a few days."

I looked at his self-righteous face and laughed out loud.

In his mind, all my drawing of boundaries was just throwing a tantrum.

He was absolutely certain that once my emotions passed, I would obediently roll back to his side and continue being the canary who cleaned up his messes.

I took out the keycard from my bag and slapped it onto the coffee table.

"I'll move right now."

Grant obviously didn't expect me to be so decisive. His tone softened a bit. "Reese, stop making a fuss, okay? If you feel wronged, I'll buy you a new villa in a few days. We'll be fine."

"I am not making a fuss."

I took one last look at Tessa, who was hiding behind him pretending to be pitiful.

"This mansion goes to her, and the spot by your side goes to her too."

"As for your difficult drinking parties and scandalous messes, whoever wants to do them can do them."

I was unusually calm. "Grant, I formally resign, and we are completely over."

He stared at me for a few seconds, then suddenly sneered, dropping the act.

"This threat is getting old."

"You're mistaken. I'm not threatening you. I'm notifying you."

I turned back to my room and dragged out the two suitcases and IDs I had packed long ago.

Even as I dragged my luggage out the front door, he didn't get up from the sofa.

He probably still thought I would come back on my own soon enough.

I got into the ride-share waiting by the road and texted my lawyer.

"Send the cease and desist for the defamation as planned."

"Also, don't miss a single cent of the money owed to me."

After sending the message, I turned off my phone and pulled out the SIM card.

The lights of the mansion grew smaller in the rearview mirror, like a gorgeous cage that had trapped me for five years.

But now, I had smashed it myself.

I never looked back. I turned to the driver and said, "To the airport. As fast as you can."(卡点)

  • Resigning From My Superstar Boss   Chapter 15

Grant's POVAt the Annual Power List Financial Summit, the lights were blinding.I sat in the very last row of the venue, off to the side.No exclusive security, no VIP pass. On the temporary admission badge pinned to my chest, my name was printed very small.I stared at the center seat on the main stage, the ultimate symbol of absolute power.Sitting in it was Reese. She wore a sharply tailored haute couture suit. On her earlobes were still those dazzling diamond fringe earrings, the ones I had given her for Christmas three years ago. At the time, she had merely said a faint "Thank you."Facing the tough, tricky questions from streaming giants and Wall Street tycoons, she answered flawlessly."Reese, the outside world is saying your move this time is a massive gamble," someone in the audience held a microphone. "What if the merger fails?"She smiled, unhurried and calm. "The merger won't fail. Because I never place my bets on luck. I place them on the contract clauses."The hundred-mi

Three days later, my production company officially opened for business. On the East Coast, the building converted from an old theater hung a new sign at the door.Only when the guests had mostly dispersed did Grant appear. He didn't bring flowers, only a bound deal book.It compiled all the streaming copyright deals I had facilitated over the past five years. At the end of every high-stakes contract worth over a hundred million, it was officially stamped and signed with the name Reese. "The industry-wide announcements have been made." He spoke with a hoarse voice. "The entire industry will know that you were the one who did these.""Thank you."It was the first time I had said thank you to him since I left.In those eyes that were so accustomed to radiating charm on the silver screen, a faint, sudden glimmer of light flickered. "Reese, since the accounts are settled, can we get to know each other all over again?" "Not as boss and date, nor as client and agent.""Jus

On the morning of the hearing, I saw Grant at the bottom of the courthouse steps. He didn't bring a lawyer. He was holding that velvet box in his hand. The sapphire necklace."I fully accept all felony charges and commercial damages."I walked past him.He suddenly grabbed my wrist."If I pay back everything I owe you, can we start over?"I pulled my hand back."Grant, settling the bill only means you no longer owe me.""It doesn't mean I still want you."The heavy brass doors of the courthouse slowly opened outward. My lead attorney stood at the top of the steps waiting for me. And this once high and mighty superstar stood frozen in place, having lost the right to step into my territory for the first time. Grant's legal team had filed three consecutive motions for a pre-trial settlement regarding the defamation case. I outright rejected the first two without even looking at them. The third time, he promised to disclose all of the company's internal encrypted records t

There were seven leaked private recordings in total. In one of them, Grant aggressively ordered his subordinates to snatch the top magazine cover I had booked. In another, he could be heard saying:"Reese won't throw a fit for long. Cut her card, take her car, and she'll come back on her own." But the most fatal one was the final recording. Tessa was crying on the phone, asking him what would happen if the rumor-mongering was exposed. Grant said:"As long as I have you covered, absolutely no one in this industry will dare touch a hair on your head." Through malicious editing and splicing, the line sounded exactly as if he had protected her and orchestrated this humiliation against me from start to finish. Less than an hour after the recordings were broadcast on the gossip station, the production company's stock price took a nosedive. Several international luxury brands issued overnight statements announcing their contract terminations. Amid overwh

At dusk, Grant showed up at my door in person. He was holding a brand-new copy of the same vinyl record. It looked almost exactly like the out-of-print edition I had treasured for five years. Unfortunately, no matter how similar it was, it wasn't the original version anymore. "Let's talk." "You have ten minutes." For the past five years, whenever he was with me, I would always proactively pour him a whiskey on the rocks or untie his tie. But this time, I didn't even pour him a glass of plain water. He stood in silence for half a minute before speaking in a hoarse voice. "I've already kicked Tessa out of the mansion, and the FBI is investigating the encrypted drive." "I don't need a report on her fate." I pushed the transfer agreement for ten percent of the company's equity back across the table to him. "Take your shares and get out." "Do you think the shares are too little?" "I think getting dragged into your mess is too much t

The papers scattered all over the table and the floor.Tessa flinched in terror, shrinking her shoulders."But Reese left, and the company's core projects are all in chaos. I just wanted to prove that my commercial value is no less than hers!" Listening to her twisted logic, I almost laughed out loud on the spot. "Tessa, stealing a core encrypted drive, colluding with a shell company, and forging a hundred-million-dollar completion bond." "You proved it very successfully. At least when it comes to committing felonies, I am truly no match for you." Humiliated and enraged, Tessa snapped her head up and glared at me. "If a washed-up agent like you hadn't stubbornly clung to his side, would I have needed to make such a risky move?" "If you really had the skills of a Hollywood power player, you should have been able to keep the seat once you took it." Her face turned an ugly shade of blue, then sickly pale. "Didn't you sleep your way to the top with those old
