VANESSA DAVIS

★。/|\。★

The next morning, I woke up before my alarm—before the sun even rose over Manhattan’s jagged skyline. The city hadn’t stretched its arms yet, but I was wide awake, eyes open to the soft blue tint of morning crawling through the window. This isn’t the normal time I’d wake up. But I’d been on colton’s farm for months, it changed my sleeping schedule. Who gets up at five am, anyways?

I still think that’s nuts. My alarm is set for seven am. Eight on workdays, ten on weekends when i liked to sleep in.

I didn’t usually do early mornings that’s the main gist of things. They reminded me too much of anxiety—rushing to get ahead, feeling like I was already behind before I’d even brushed my teeth. No one needs to be under so much pressure that they woke up at an ungodly hour. But today was different i guess. Maybe it was the fresh distance from the farm, or the ache in my chest that still hadn’t settled after last night’s call with Colton. Or maybe it was just the

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★By the time I finally said goodbye to my family, the sky was an inky shade of blue, the stars barely peeking through the haze of city lights. I hadn’t even stood up from the couch before Benny grabbed onto me like a koala and begged—pleaded—to come home with me.“Stay with me, Aunty Nessa! I wanna come!” he whined, tiny arms locked around my neck like a vice. “Please! I promise I’ll be good. I promise I won’t jump on the bed! I’ll just cuddle you like a pillow, I promise!” i think they’ve started giving him coffee, what happened to the sweet boy from months ago? I bet it’s due to the fact that he’s on holiday. And ezra must have been spoiling him to distract benny from the sudden absence of his mother.Lionel chuckled from the armchair, shaking his head. “You’re gonna give in.”Ezra didn’t even bother trying to convince Benny to stay. He rubbed his temples and muttered something about how he’d been trying to get Benny to sleep in his own bed for two night

  • Resisting The Alpha Cowboy   Chapter 171

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★Dinner with my family was, surprisingly, peaceful. Not awkward, not tense—just genuinely nice. Dad cooked, as always, and somehow managed to make roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans taste like something out of a five-star restaurant. He really should consider opening a resturant. He’s an amazing cook. Something i did not get since my skills are at breakfast level. The table was full, the conversation was flowing, and I kept finding myself glancing around, waiting for something to snap. But it never did.Lionel and Ezra were civil—pleasant, even. It was like I’d stepped into an alternate reality where brothers didn’t butt heads with me over every tiny disagreement. I sat beside Benny, who was too busy trying to describe a cartoon character that apparently changed his life to notice my distracted awe. Something about a raccoon with magical sunglasses. I nodded along enthusiastically while he gestured with his fork, occasionally flicking mashed p

  • Resisting The Alpha Cowboy   Chapter 170

▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥 The riot carried on until the sun began to set, voices rising like wildfire across town square until they frayed and faded, leaving behind nothing but exhausted anger and the hum of plans being made.By some miracle of shared rage and grief, the townspeople agreed to run an emergency election the very next day. They weren’t waiting for bureaucracy or permission. The vote was going to happen—paper ballots, word of mouth, and all. That’s the thing about Dusty Creek: when they’re done with you, they’re done.I love this town, i feel like i should have started this riot years ago when people were losing their homes. We could have outvoted anyone who supported the mayor. Well, you know what they say. Better late than never.Even then, people talked like Sheriff Bastillo had a shot at redemption, but I didn’t buy it. Letting people get poisoned under your watch, standing by as a town suffers—it wasn’t something anyone in Dusty Creek would overlook. Not now. Not when

  • Resisting The Alpha Cowboy   Chapter 169

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★Benny was the perfect distraction from my spiraling thoughts—like a tiny human emotional support cannonball. The second I stepped into the house, he launched at me like a missile, screeching my name and practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. His arms flung around my neck before I could take two steps into the living room, and he was already jabbering about the gifts he'd gotten for losing a tooth—some kind of superhero toothbrush, glow-in-the-dark socks, and a giant gummy worm that had apparently “changed his life.”“Where’s my present, Auntie Nessa?” he asked, pouting dramatically. He’s the only one I’ll let get away with shortening my name. I could barely get a “Hi” in, let alone a full conversation with my dad, who chuckled quietly from his wheelchair nearby, waiting patiently as Benny monopolized all of my attention.God, I loved this kid. Honest to hell, he was a little darling. A chubby-cheeked, messy-haired ball of sunshine who made th

▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥 It’s only been a day since I last saw Vanessa—but hell, it feels longer than that. I know it’s overdramatic, especially since we spoke on the phone not twenty-four hours ago, but waking up without her? Walking through my house with no trace of her presence? It all feels off. Like the walls are holding their breath, waiting for her to walk back in.The guest bedroom she’d been staying in is too quiet now. I stripped the sheets this morning, folded them, and tossed them in the laundry. Shouldn’t have. The smell of her body cream—vanilla and something warmer underneath it—was still faint on the pillowcases. Now, the room just smells like detergent and dust.I’ve been sleeping in that room since she left.Yeah, I’ve got my own bed. Big, warm, full of my own scent and the creak of familiar springs. But her room? That’s where she used to curl up at night. That’s where I’d sometimes find her dozing off with her laptop or bundled up in the oversized hoodie or shirt she

  • Resisting The Alpha Cowboy   Chapter 167

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★I drove straight from the office to Dad’s townhouse, my fingers tight around the steering wheel the entire way. The city began to thin as the buildings turned from glass towers to neat rows of brick homes and quiet streets dotted with trees just starting to bloom. His place sat on the edge of a calmer neighborhood—less honking, less shouting, more dogs being walked by people who looked like they enjoyed brunch. But it’s still new york so you can expect too much quiet, or too much privacy unless you live in a gated community. Do they even have those in this area of manhattan? Maybe brooklyn... ugh, who cares. It was too early for dinner. Too early for much of anything. But I wasn’t going for food. I just wanted to see my dad. To sit in his kitchen, hear Benny run across the floor, maybe share a mug of coffee with my father and have a chat before the others showed up and soured the whole thing.Ezra and Lionel. Saying their names upset me a little bit. I
