30. I wish I'd met you much earlier

As soon as she opens the door, we stare at each other in silence, as if words are unnecessary to communicate now. She looks down at herself, presses her eyelids, and lets out a slight sigh followed by an embarrassed grimace.

She's in a golden butterfly pajama that exposes parts of her body. I give a half-smile and raise my hand to her.

“Hello…”

“Hi” she gently squeezes my hand. “Please come in; I'll put on something more appropriate. Make yourself comfortable.”

Please don't go; you look beautiful like this.

I nod, watching her climb the stairs. I feel the other woman approaching, but my eyes can't detach from the vision in front of me until she disappears from my field of view. I turn towards her sister, who stares at me sternly, arms crossed beneath her chest.

“This way, please, Mr. Bernstorff” she points the way to the living room.
